Tried the okoy for the first time. It was yummy! Just wish that there were more shrimp in it-maybe two or three shrimps or a bunch of really small shrimps would make it tastier

FINALLY finally FINALLY got a chance to try the elusive Crave Okoy«Filipino Unicorn». why«Filipino Unicorn»? every time i tried to go to this truck, they’re closed, or not there, or on another island… maybe that is why there is only 3 reviews for them… they’re so hard to find!!! at the most recent Eat The Street(July 2013 — spicy theme), i got a chance to try their okoy!(menu for ETS: ) i hate to give them 2 stars, b/c i have a feeling their product is usually better, but that night, i received an extremely greasy, limp and chewy, not crunchy, yet slightly burnt okoy, and 3 lumpia that were also burnt and greasy. the lumpia was so greasy, inside and out, that i couldn’t finish it… i took 2 bites, and couldn’t eat the rest of it. when i bit into it, it was like getting a gush of grease… not appetizing. i really wanted to try their chicken lollipops, but they weren’t on the menu for ETS. Also, i wanted to try their Sisig, but couldnt b/c i can’t have lime(they use calamansi)… bummers for me: P if i get the chance, i’ll give them another try b/c i’m thinking i just caught them with a bad batch or something… also, they are so, so, so super nice there, i really want to see if the food situation was a isolated incident…

DELICIOUSOKOY! 4.5 stars to be exact! Hubby and I visited Oahu a couple weeks ago and one of the top 3 food places on our list to check out was Crave Okoy and we were so glad we did! This is the best okoy we’ve had in a long time. We live in OC(Southern CA) where there are lots of pinoys but sadly and surprisingly, good okoy is very hard to find. CO’s okoy was crispy and very flavorful! We would rate it 5-stars if they were served warmer or fresh from the fryer. Not sure if they’re pre-fried. Nevertheless, they were really tasty and they held their crispiness! The spiced vinegar and atsara(pickled relish?) they serve with it completes the dish! The owners(Junior, his wife Mel, and his mom who is also the source of this awesome recipe) were very friendly and provided excellent service. I was drinking the vinegar and they gladly gave us extras. We took 2 okoys to go and had them for a midnight snack at the hotel and they were still crispy yummy good! We came here on our first full day in Oahu and undoubtedly would’ve returned probably every day during our trip but sadly, they had a catering gig and didn’t have the wagon open for the duration of our stay. Oh so sad. :( Oh well, no question we will definitely be returning to Crave Okoy on our next island visit! Btw, I’m pinay and my white ;-) hubby probably loves okoy more than I do! Mahalo, Crave Okoy, and looking forward to coming back for more of your ridiculously yum okoy!

3.5 stars to be exact… We stopped by this food truck the other day, to get something to eat before seeing the matinée showing if «Quidam» at the Blaisedell ~ thanks for the tickets, Unilocal! First, we had to figure out what an Okoy was! It’s a crawfish on top of a fried rounded piece of vegetables(& maybe some small pieces of noodles?) and batter(see my picture). We chose the Okoy Combo, which comes with Pancit($ 6) &2 pieces of Chicken Lollipops(2/$ 5). The Chicken Lollipops are fried chicken rounds at the end of a chicken bone(also see picture) — with 2 drinks for a dollar each, our lunch came out to $ 13. The Okoy comes with a sauce which is highly recommended that you pour as much as you possibly can on top of it because that thing is pretty hard to bite into. It is tasty with the sauce, though! and the pancit was very tasty! The Chicken Lollipops were good and they also come with a mayo based sauce. I forget what was in it, but it was good! Both orders also came with a small container of spicy pickled vegetables — yum! Everything was good, but all pre-made — so it wasn’t up to R. Kelly standards: «hot & fresh out the kitchen» :( The people working there are friendly and nice, answering our questions and other customers questions. This is a good place to stop by if you’re going to see a show or are in the general area.
