I discovered this little produce market over 2 years ago from co-workers who frequent this store. I buy much of my produce from here as it has the extreme affordability of Chinatown, but the quality selection and upkeep of a chain grocery store. Plus it’s on the outskirts of Chinatown, in a nicer building(Marin Tower) so the rat and exhaust-from-cars and«what’s that smell?» factor, is almost nill here. Plus, since the market is on a side street, its easy to double park and run in to grab something. Can’t do that on Hotel or King St. And their prices are super cheap! A bag of beans or onions or tomatos or mushrooms or whatever they decide to put together on the side of the registers, are only a $ 1/bag, no tax. Some other places in Chinatown do the same but the veggies are usually 5 hours shy of rotting and/or mixed with nice looking ones visible and the sad looking ones hiding in the middle. But not at B H Market. So far their veggies are always happy looking! Fresh, firm, good coloring and tasty.(Shout out to the shipment of Sunkist Oranges they had @ .89 a pound, every one of them SWEEEEET and juuuuuceh!) So to recap: Pros: –CHEAP prices, the same as if you had to wonder into the bowels of Maunakea Marketplace –Quality, their produce is always good looking and fresh –Location — easy to get to, easy to park or run in to grab something –Convenience, again just easy to get to Cons; –Good variety but their selection is limited to basics vegetables and some fruits. They don’t sell fresh herbs here(like basil or parsley). Sometimes they’ll have cilantro but its not guaranteed. –Availability of certain items; sometimes they’ll have an item… lot’s of it, then two weeks later, nothing.
