My experience was excellent, perfect portion imo. When in doubt pick the ones with the pietro emblem

Ok, so it went down last night. We were in a quandary as to where to eat and I did what I said I was never gonna do again. I opted to give Angelo Pietro’s a second chance. You see, the first time we went to the new location was shortly after they opened and my dish was pretty bad. It was chicken with pasta and the chicken was rubbery and bland. It was bad and I swore to never again go to there. It was a pale comparison to what they served when they were on Kapiolani Blvd. But last night, I gave it a second chance and it was a total 180. So I had to compare«apples to apples». I ordered another chicken and pasta dish. This time the chicken was cooked perfectly and it was well seasoned. I ordered bacon… crispy. The bacon was served to me in a separate dish and it was crispy delicious. Mmmmmm… bacon. Angelo Pietro, you have redeemed yourself and I will resume giving you my business. However, the logic of your hostess/cashier baffles me and I was wondering why you would not take our reservations at 7:45pm for 8:00pm, when you close at 10pm? We were nearby, but wanted to make sure we got a seat. We were told no more reservations would be accepted and it was a first come/first served basis. When we asked if anyone was waiting, we were told no. ??? So why again would you not take an RSVP for just 15mins from when I was calling? In the end, it worked out. We got there at 7:55pm and were seated a few mins after our arrival.

So glad that Pietro’s is back and even closer to my house! I was a big fan of theirs when they were at Ala Moana, and would go often for lunch and dinners with family and friends. When they closed, I was bummed, but I am so happy that they re-opened and are now in Kaimuki! I would highly recommend reservations — this new location is smaller and ALWAYS packed, weekday, weekend, no matter what. The two times I’ve been here recently, I had made reservations and so glad I did because some walk-ins waited for a while or left because it took too long. Their menu is relatively the same. The classics are all still there and I believe there are some new things added as well. The raw potato salad and Bolognese spaghetti are my go-tos — and was pleasantly surprised when my spaghetti came with a delicious garlic bread. Angelo Pietro’s is still one of my favorite places to dine. Great food, great service, and I always leave full :)

Loved this place before they moved as I have been going to them since they were this small little place next to McKinley Car Wash. Missed them after they closed their Ala Moana location. Was super excited to find out they were moving to Kaimuki as it is super close to home for me. Anxiously awaited their opening at the new location. Tried them when they first opened and although it was great to have them back and the food was GREAT! There were a few things that weren’t the same and was kind of disappointed. No endless bread. The pasta was being served on plates and so didn’t have the same juicy sauce throughout the whole meal. And was kind of slow service. On the plus side, the fried onions is an add-on now so I don’t have to order my meal without it. Since that time I am happy to say that they took people’s feedback and they have tweaked their stuff. The wooden bowls are back(if you order extra pasta) and otherwise they have bowl like plates so the sauces have plenty of place to hang out while waiting for you to suck it up. Also, they currently have a late lunch special. $ 10 for one topping pizza or pasta AND a drink! Only available from 1pm to 2:30pm but an awesome price IMHO.

Brought mom here last night(5÷6÷16) on a spontaneous mother-daughter dinner. We looked on Unilocal at about 5:20 and saw that Pietro was open, called to make reservations but the lady I spoke with said they were only taking walk-ins. We live only 10 minutes away, so we quickly got ready and when we got there they seated us right away. At 5:40ish, the restaurant was quite empty for a Friday night. I had only been to the Ala Moana location once before, but this Kaimuki one is definitely smaller, so real waiting space like the old location had. It does get packed once all the tables are full and the walking space does get pretty narrow. On to the food… the dressings are amazing! And I love having the choice of dressing when they bring out the garden salad, which was a huge portion btw :) Mom ordered the salmon and spinach basil cream which she said was delicious, and I ordered the shrimp and broccoli with cream sauce, also delicious! If you like the mixture of Japanese and Italian, this is definitely a great restaurant! We’ll be coming back for sure!

I used to love this place when it was this at ala Moana so I’m happy it reopened in kaimuki. I’ve always loved their clam pepperoncini and it was just like how I remembered. It did seem like all their dishes got smaller though Their raw potato salad is still hard to beat. Their dressings are always the highlight of it. I do not recommend getting their bake garlic shrimp appetizer. It’s not that special and very expensive for the amount of shrimp. It had more mushroom than anything

My adorable grandparents took me here for dinner when I was visiting Honolulu and it felt like such a cozy, little restaurant for locals! The space was very clean, with simple furniture, colorful booths, and paintings on the walls. The staff was incredibly friendly and our server Rachel took such great care of us. The cuisine here is Japanese & Italian mix, which is rare to find and uniquely brilliant! We shared the Meat Lover’s Pizza for an appetizer which had a very light & fluffy crust. The crust was probably my favorite part. It was loaded with pepperoni, spicy ground beef, bacon, and sausage. Sauce was light and cheese was perfectly layered. Highly recommend this dish for sharing! For my entrée I had the Pork & Eryngii Spicy Cream Sauce which was insanely good! The portions are big but I somehow manged to eat the entire dish. The noodles are topped with spicy pork, eryngii mushrooms, roasted garlic, and fried onions. The garlic cream sauce was hearty & rich and just tied all of the flavors together. The dish also came with a piece of buttery garlic bread — great for dipping! I was pretty obsessed with this dish. I’d order it again in a heartbeat! I think what I love the most about Angelo Pietro is that it honestly feels like a small, genuine, local business. The staff shows great appreciation for their customers and the food was very good. I’ve never been to a restaurant that served Japanese AND Italian but I loved the concept! This place is memorable. I will definitely come back when I am in Honolulu again.

Angelo Pietro I’m so glad you’re in Kaimuki! This might sound corny, but I always loved their dressings and tried them all one by one till I was sick of that flavor and switch to the next one #truth. Well confession time is not quite over because I never ate at the Kapiolani location, but I’m here now, so what the heck. Started off the meal with a Kona Long Board, you know a Yeep has to start the meal correctly. Haha Next we shared a regular order of the Pietro Garden Salad, love that you can choose the additional toppings(at an additional cost), but who cares because it’s eating healthy! Also liked that they bring out their signature dressings, ume dressing on request. The Chicken Fresh Tomato Pasta with Basil Sauce was flavorful, but not quite as much as I expected and I thought the Chicken pieces were cut a little too big. Overall I did like the dish, but would explore the rest of the menu before ordering it again. My other half order a Pepperoni Pizza, which I had a slice of, It was surprisingly good. If you have kids, they’ll love this pizza’s here. Lastly was dessert, yup I didn’t finish all my pasta on purpose because I wanted to try Pietro’s Crème Brule. We did share this dessert, but my suggestion is. Don’t share this dessert! Have her order her own. Lol! It’s is that Good! On my second visit I decided on the Pork and Eryngii Mushrooms with the Spicy Cream Sauce. Small pieces of pork with good size strips of Eryngii shrooms, I really liked the texture of the shrooms, nice and firm. Our dinner companions ordered the Chicken and Bacon with tomato sauce, they found it to be on the salty side from the bacon. Of course the dessert was the Crème Brule again, can’t get enough of this dessert. I did have a 3rd visit which I order the Sausage and Mushroom pasta with red sauce, light on the salt… Perfect single person portion, I’d eat this again! Note: It’s a good idea to tell them to go very light on the«Salt», some of the pasta dishes come overly seasoned. Service was very polite and friendly from the host and throughout the entire meal. I’m Happy that I got to try Angelo Pietro and will be back again very soon.

Yikes, What happened to Pietros!!! I used to love the original original location on Kapiolani by McKinley car wash. Remember that? or am I showing my age!!! Tonight was the first time at the Kaimuki location. I always ate the bacon shrimp pasta with garlic oil It was always yummy. Tonight it was bland, shrimp and bacon was undercooked and absolutely no flavor. Sorry this is a no-go. Now I understand why my wife refuses to go to Pietros. BOO!

So happy they found a new location *insert happy dance* :D I love Angelo Pietros. Everything about them is amaze balls. The pizza is good, pasta to die for… and that raw potato salad(mmmm those dressing. all you can taste really) haha. But hey it makes you feel healthy right? When they were at the old location I always go since I used to work upstairs and it was convenient better than going to the mall for expensive food. They give good portions for you’re paying. This location is small inside but they have a beautiful painting on the wall which was done by the owner. The food is still just as good but prices have gone up a bit. If you’re a new first timer… they have stamp cards.(Buy 10 entrees and you get one free!) Get one believe me you’ll come back again! Ok sorry for my rant. let’s get to my food… So I came here around 830ish after going to an event and they weren’t so buys. my friends and I shared the raw potato salad and we all got pasta :) YUM! I had the Genovese and my tummy was satisfied. sad note: they no longer give out slices of bread in a basket… you just get one with your pasta… not sure about the pizza.

A long-time favorite pasta restaurant of mine. Me and my boyfriend first frequented the old location on Kapiolani Blvd(next to Shokudo) and waited for months for this place to announce their reopening. Fast forward a year or so and we happened to be in the Waialae area on a Friday night scouring for a place to grab a bite. I was pleasantly surprised to see that their new location is situated in a very good neighborhood where 4 – 5 star restaurants are common. When I walked in the restaurant I went over to meet my boyfriend who was already seated at a table. The new space has definitely gotten smaller from their last location. I wasn’t acknowledged until our waiter came over to take our orders. I usually order the spinach mushroom salmon pesto cream sauce pasta and we both share an appetizer of calamari. Both dishes never seem to disappoint. The pasta here is cooked perfectly, the sauces they use are full of flavor, and more often than not we both find ourselves feeling pretty satisfied with our meals. I think the staff could brush up on their customer service a bit more, but for the most part I do enjoy eating her every so often when I feel like I’m in the mood for great tasting Japanese style pasta.

I really, really love this restaurant. My second visit here and once again, I scarfed everything down like there was no tomorrow. It reminds me of all the Italian restaurants in Japan, too. If I wasn’t eating sushi or ramen, you’d find me eating pasta or pizza — Japanese style. I first learned about Pietro’s when I brought a salad to work. I had placed my dressing out on the table and my co-worker said, «Hey! Did you know that the maker of your salad dressing has a restaurant out here?» Had no idea. So, here I am. On my first visit, our table ordered the Raw Potato Salad because my boss raved about it so much. Soon after, they delivered 4 kinds of dressings: Ume, Original, Ginger, and Miso(I Spy my favorite dressing!!). A mountain of white stringy stuff arrived. This potato salad wasn’t anything I had imagined. But, to my delight it was great. Felt like I could eat this salad all day long. Especially with the various dressings. Today we started off with the Calamari Fritti Rings. The Italian seasoned breading made for a nicely fried golden color. Paired with a wonderful Marinara sauce, it was a wonderful starter for sharing. Carbonara. So yum! I mean, Y-U-M! Unlike Japan’s version, the dish wasn’t topped off with a blanched egg. Rather, the rich creamy sauce already had the egg yolk mixed in. It still tasted eggs-cellent though! The vegetables were fresh and delicious. The noodles cooked al dente. Asparagus, bacon(yes, bacon!!!), onions, mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, and bell pepper made up the dish. Oiishi! Salmon and Spinach Basil Cream. I ordered this plate on my second visit. Dee-licious!!! Everything about this dish was just flavorful. Salmon, spinach, onion, tomato, mushroom in a basil cream sauce. Once again, the vegetables were nothing but fresh. The pasta noodles were just perfect. I highly recommend either one of the dishes above. You can’t go wrong! Looking forward to trying other dishes in the near future, like their pizza! I have never been to their previous location, but I can tell you that the interior here is very bright, clean, and airy. Service is kind and quick(at least on the Wednesday and Saturday lunch times). The restaurant can accommodate parties along the side in partial booths or in the center for table seating. Plenty of parking available for a very small fee. I think we paid about $ 0.75 each visit.

First, I like this location much better. You have to pay for parking but there’s ample parking. Also, there seems to be less Japanese tourists. It has a much more local feel even though it’s a Japanese chain. They have managed to keep Japanese standards of quality control. The fried calamari was as I remembered it before. Crispy and easy to eat coating. I tried the Rainbow version of the raw potato salad. It was a nice upgrade from the regular raw potato salad. Seafood PIETRO Style was perfect. The Japanese obsession with noodles transfers over to their preparation of Italian noodles. The spaghetti was al dente and the seafood was cooked so it still had a little bit of give without being rubbery. Too many times seafood is overcooked but this is never been the case with this location or the old location. There is obviously good training or talent acquisition going on. Glad to see that this place has not changed even though the location has.

We got to eat lunch here today at their new location in Kaimuki. The décor of the restaurant is great, but the size of it is quite small. It must get filled up quickly on the weekends. We had a chicken n garlic pizza, tarako n ika pasta, n the mixed green salad. The pasta n pizza were great, but the salad was a joke. It was only a couple handfuls of lettuce. Yes, only lettuce and nothing else. Why don’t the call it «a half plate of lettuce.» Anyways, we had a good meal just don’t get the mixed green salad.

MMMMmmm hit the spot when I went here this past weekend. I had the shrimp and mushroom pasta dish and it was delicious! I didn’t really like our rainbow salad that much. Its not because it didn’t taste good, but it was just too much. It consist of long strings of daikon, but it so long, they should cut it down to make it easier to eat! Despite that I thought all the dishes on the menu looked great. My friends dish looked awesome too. If you do order certain salads, they give you 3 dressings(ginger, miso-sesame, and original) to try, so it great to taste them all. You can also buy the dressings from their too. Overall, Angelo Pietro is a great place if you want a casual place for good pasta. Inside it pretty filled and the seats are kind of close together. Price is reasonable and lots of different combinations in pasta to choose from.

Angelo Pietro’s along Kapiolani Boulevard closed down for awhile and reopened in Kaimuki in the business district. This new location is on the ocean-side perimeter of the parking lot shared by Big City Diner & Kim Chee(mountain side), Duck Kee & Via Gelato(Hawaii Kai-facing side), & some other restaurants. About just before 6:30 p.m., the parking lot was becoming full yet we were able to find a parking stall without too much incident. Fran C. & I met up with a group of fun, adventurous, hot-new-restaurant-seeking Yeeps Rachel I. & Nam, Terry H. & Darcie I., Nadine C., and Traci R. who had already secured a table. The place is nice. Tables & chairs are hip, wooden, warm-/dark-colored, & new. The place is packed yet not too overly loud. Overall the food served here is Italian but with a Japanese-Italian twist. It’s not the confident garlic, basil, white sauce, red sauce Italian taste but seems to be a lighter, sweeter, more subtle, creamy taste. Of our entire group, I can confidently say that I am the only one who can admit that I enjoyed my meal. With the waitress’ help, I ordered the shrimp & mushroom pasta in half cream; half tomato sauce. Aside from my pasta and our great table company, these were the only good aspects of our dinner. Here is a brief rundown of our dining experience: 1) The table we sat at was very close to the door. Ppl walking in to wait for a table stood very near to our table. Not the most comfortable dining feeling of ppl observing you while you’re eating eeks 2) Seating at the table was comfortable but bc the aisles are narrow, it makes the whole restaurant feel squeezed into a narrow, longish room. So tight there was not much room for the restaurant staff to comfortably or easily walk around to the various tables. 3) Our waters were not filled regularly. We were practically forgotten. 4) We asked for lemons for our waters. The waitress kept forgetting to bring. 5) The wait for our food was super extra long. Good thing I wasn’t starving! 6) Everyone’s food arrived(except Fran C.‘s & mine) but so haphazardly that everyone really couldn’t start eating together. Awkward long waits between. 7) Everyone else finally gets their food, finishes, and yet Fran C. & I still don’t have ours. 8) Nam discovers a hair in his food. Rachel I. mentions to the waitress who grosses out. Nam doesn’t want a replacement. I don’t blame him. 9) Everyone eating their meal announces that their food lacks desirable taste. 10) During the wait, we discover that my bf Fran C.‘s salad was delivered to the wrong person(on our table) without chicken(the waitress simply set it down on the table in front of someone else not anywhere near Fran C.), and when we finally ask the waitress who the salad greens belongs to, it takes her and the manager time to figure it out. Meantime, the waitress carries the plate of salad to her manager, back to us with the manager, back to the kitchen for chicken(for another long period of time), before finally reaching Fran C. 11) Finally Fran C. gets his chicken salad. He notices that it’s got chicken added but it’s added to the same plate of salad that the waitress had been carrying around throughout the restaurant. How many hands touched that plate & how many other ppl checked out and breathed all over it?! Uck! 12) Then, everyone else on our table receives a check for their meal. Only problem is that I still had not received my pasta dish! :/ 13) We ask about my pasta dish to which there prompts internal deliberation, look of confusion, and no apology from the waitress(or manager). 14) After everyone pays for their meal is when I finally receive my food. Gosh but FINALLY!!! :D The saving Grace is that my food was absolutely delicious. Fran C. verifies. WOW! My pasta is served in a creamy, light tomato-reddish sauce that envelops the pasta noodles. Yummy, fork-tender mushrooms & shrimp peek out of the sauce. Only downside is that the portion-size is really not much. Not a good deal for the price. Especially the guys who usually want more sustenance will end up feeling starved. Note: Each pasta dish comes with a single, relatively small piece of french bread added to the plate rather than a bunch in a basket put on the table. I guess this business no longer serves house bread. My table mates are good enough to stay with me until one of the couples needs to leave. Thank you for the great company, Yeeps! :D What an experience! :/ Had my food not tasted good, I would have given just 1-star. But bc my food was honestly so delicious, I am generously giving 2. Had it not been for the great conversation, practically all would have been lost that evening. To help us relax, we just had to get some Via Gelato before calling it an evening. RESTROOMS: At front, left of kitchen. They’re clean & bright. TABLES: Three rows of sets of tables with very narrow spacing for people to pass. PARKING: Stubs are not validated. FREQUENTDINERSTAMPCARD: Yes

Tucked in the small space where Kaimuki Grill once was, they find a way to squeeze quite a bit of covers, however it was only until the later part of my dinner with my friend I noticed some areas could use improvement. Service — I had called a couple hours prior to update my reservations from party of 4 to 2 and had checked in early. After being told to wait a few minutes we waited outside as it’s pretty cramped right by their counter. We noticed other groups were called in that came in after us. At first I thought maybe they were late to their reservation time, but only after I went back in(which was past our reservation time) that they showed us to the table. So were they just not going to call us or did they forget? I felt like they forgot about us. We were welcomed and given menus and waters right away, but towards the ending of our meal we noticed quite a bit of customers who were leaving only thought to squeeze by our table and bumping it at times. My friend and I were sat at a(4) person table and I thought had the other two of our parties showed up the might get shoved as it seemed like the easiest route for others to get out. In the future, I would hope they are more mindful how their table placements impact the flow of how guests go into and out of their restaurant — or better yet, just avoid that table closest to the counter. Food — They’re quite generous with their portions, but I have yet to try enough from their menu, but in general they’re ok. What’s nice about the salads is that you are able to try all of their signature dressings, which really can help as I always loved their dressings. The garlic bread they serve with their pasta isn’t anything special. Ambiance — In a full house, it can get pretty noisy. I’d still return here again, but just hope I get to sit in a different location where people won’t constantly be bumping our table as they leave the restaurant.

I really love Angelo Pietro, at first I was a fan of their salad dressing, but now I am a fan of their restaurant! Location and Hours: Angelo Pietro is a fairly new place that is located near Hokkaido Ramen in Kaimuki. The dinner hours is 5 pm-10 pm, but I heard from my boyfriend there is a quite a wait if you go later. Luckily we went before it opened(15 minutes before) and just waited there. Food Review: 1) Appetizer: Baked Garlic Shrimp($ 10-$ 11): Very tasty and not for someone that does not like garlic because this is all about garlic! The Garlic Shrimp contained broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes, and shrimp seasoned with crushed and minced garlic cloves, garlic salt, and pepper(there were other seasonings, but I couldn’t identify it). If you order this, I say the recommended serving size is probably for 2 people since my boyfriend and I finished this quite quickly. I would rate this 5⁄5 stars. 2) Entrees: My boyfriend got a Salmon Basil Cream Pasta while I got a Natto and Bacon Japanese Sauce Pasta. *Japanese Sauce: Natto and Bacon($ 12): Although it has natto, it doesn’t smell that much like it. With a bed of linguine or angel hair pasta and creamy garlic soy sauce base, it was very tasty despite the odd combination of bacon and natto. The pasta was garnished with chopped green onions, shredded nori, chopped natto, and crispy bacon. It was very light, but very tasty. I would rate this 5⁄5 stars. *Salmon and Basil Cream($ 15): My boyfriend gave me some of his pasta and I thought it was pretty good because it tasted like there was a lot of herbs in the creamy basil sauce. The pasta was topped with tomatoes, spinach, and baked salmon. If you’re a fan of herbs, I would recommend this dish. Overall: I would recommend this restaurant because not only is there delicious food, there is excellent customer service too. The only down fall is parking can be difficult to find because of the amount of restaurants nearby(there’s two paid parking lots and street parking).

My first review of 2016! I really like Pietros. So I was so sad when they closed. But now they finally reopened and at a better location!(in my opinion). They are nearby 12’th Ave grill, Hale Vietnam and Via Gelato off of Waialae Ave. The interior seems a lot smaller than the old location, but it’s new and nice. There’s bench seating along both walls with a row for tables in the middle. I love the raw potato salad with the Shoyu dressing. Yummmm. So light and refreshing. There’s options so you can customize your own pizza or pasta dish. Their pizzas are good – very thin crust almost like a cracker. I used to love the bacon and takana pasta but it is no longer on their new menu. My other favorite is the mixed mushroom one, which is in a light Shoyu sauce. Simple and so good. This time I tried the chicken basil pasta, which was pretty good but quite oily for my liking. It came with large cubes of chicken, mushrooms, tomatoes and was topped with fried onions. Each pasta comes with a slice of garlic bread which was really crispy and tasty. Prices are super reasonable and they have beer/wine and dessert(although no more Apple galette anymore which also made me sad). This place is perfect for a casual dinner!

Angelo Pietro is a Japan based restaurant chain famous for their salad dressings and their Japanese spin on pasta, pizza and other Italian favorites. All my meals here start with a salad. Even though you can buy their bottled dressings everywhere, it just feels wrong to not start with their Rainbow Salad which has raw potato ribbons. I don’t eat raw potato any place else, but somehow it works here. For an entrée, my usual order is the spicy Tarako and Ika. This is heavy on the Japanese flavors, the hot pasta is tossed with salted cod roe and as the eggs burst they flavor the pasta, the boiled squid rings are tender and have a soft chew to them. If you like anchovies, try this dish. If you are looking for something with more veggies in it, the Genovese is a lightly flavored pesto pasta with asparagus, mushrooms, potato and tomatoes. I wouldn’t order the Eggplant Penne Arribbiata again. The dish was swimming in oil. They must not have drained the bacon fat or added more oil, and it was sweet, not spicy the way an arribbiata is supposed to be. If you are looking for Japanes-Italian, head on down to Angelo Pietro. There is plenty of parking and they take reservations.

Remember when you had that total toddler meltdown when Pietro closed? You pouted, huffed and scratched your head in disbelief. Well, have no fear, they are back! And I mean BACK with basically the same menu with all your favorites plus a few new yummy options. Now I can’t say I was a regular at the former location but from what I can remember and what my dining partners shared the new location is spot on.

I decided to check this place out because it’s been a while! This used to be one of my fave places because of their innovative pasta dishes! This new spot is bit more cramped and noisy. I miss the old location with booths and a lot of space! I always order my spicy ground beef eggplant pasta! It’s my fave! I feel that portion size is smaller now then before. Service is always good here. Downside is parking is not validated nor free.

On a Thursday nite around 6:10 the restaurant wasn’t busy. We were seated immediately. Waiters were very attentive. I must say i was rather disappointed with the eggplant with spicy ground beef… tasted like it was missing something. We also noticed the portions were rather small and prices were high. We enjoyed the potato salad with the many different dressings… ume, original and sesame. By 7:00 the restaurant was packed, although it didn’t look like anyone was waiting for a table. Parking in the municipal lot was rather hard to find. Wait staff were very pleasant!

Reunited and it feels so goooood~~~ Welcome back Pietro’s! I cannot explain in words how happy I am that Pietro’s finally opened up again. Being a patron for 8+ years, I couldn’t wait to be reunited with nostalgia. The new Pietro location is on 12th Ave, right on the left of 12th Ave Grill(facing 12th Ave Grill). Parking is conveniently available in the lot that these restaurants share($ 0.75 for about an hour), or in any available metered parking located near the restaurant. My boyfriend and I visited Pietro’s at 7:30PM on a Saturday night, and the wait was just 10mins(I think we just missed the dinner rush). I LOVE this new location; I think it’s more size appropriate for Pietro’s. The décor is more Japanese-y as well. I must say the tables seem a bit too close to one another, but hopefully this is just to accommodate the high demand from reopening. For food– my boyfriend got his usual Spicy Eggplant with Ground Beef(with extra ground beef ~$ 3 extra), and I got my usual Mushroom, Shrimp, and Bacon in Cream Sauce. The pastas were perfectly au dente, and the toppings were abundant. One negative was that the cream sauce seemed a bit looser than before, but the flavor was good. Service seemed a bit spotty but I understand they’re probably training new staff. Overall, I am overjoyed Pietro reopened… Welcome back! Notes: — table bread is no longer served(I personally didn’t like their old table bread anyway…), instead, a toasted slice of bread is served with your pasta — new menu items added! — pastas no longer come with complimentary fried onions, but they are available as an add-on for $ 1.25 — they still have stamp cards!!! — parking lot does not validate

In the minority here, but kinda ew… I liked the atmosphere and the service was good, but the food was not doing it for me. My friend and I shared mozzarella sticks and bruschetta for appetizers. The mozz sticks are frozen from a bag and fried and taste like the cheap brand you buy at the store. The bruschetta was a little better but the bread was soggy and not crispy so it was hard to eat without spilling. We split an entrée called 5 Cheese Basil which we asked for with no bacon. Came out with EXTRA bacon. Oops! They were apologetic and remade it very quickly though. One of the cheeses was cottage cheese… that’s weird but we were game to try it. It sounded weird and ultimately it tasted weird. Within all of these foods was a ton of oil that left me feeling pretty ill for the next couple hours after leaving. Probably won’t make a visit here anytime soon unfortunately.

If you were a fan of Angelo Pietro, then you’ll be happy to hear that they reopened and relocated to a location on 12th Ave! I never got a chance to try them at their Ala Moana location, so after hearing they were making a comeback after being closed for nearly a year, I knew I had to try them out. I found out that Angelo Pietro is a Japan-based chain restaurant that serves up Japanese-Italian fusion cuisine. That alone intrigued my interest. The restaurant is modeled after their last location and the menu is still the same, with a couple of new dishes. The bf and I decided to order the eggplant and spicy ground beef pasta, and the pork and eryngii spicy cream sauce pasta.(Eryngii is a type of mushroom that can be found in Asia). Both dishes that we chose we very delicious, but the eggplant and spicy ground beef pasta was out of this world delicious! The combination of roasted garlic, ground beef and tomato sauce was incredible. There was a lot of flavored going on that complement each other. The dish was topped with asparagus and served with a slice of bread. The pork and eryngii spicy cream sauce pasta was delicious as well, but the cream sauce was lighter than we anticipated. That’s fine – it still turned out good and yummy. My overall experience was great and I would definitely be back!

Unilocal 100 Review Challenge 2015: 115⁄100 Where do I start?! Finally, I had a much overdue meet up with friends & fellow Yeeps for dinner. We decided on Angelo Pietro(AP) because we wanted to relive AP since it moved from it’s former location next to Shokudo Restaurant off Kapiolani Blvd. I can’t quite remember how the OG Angelo Pietro was, but I know it wasn’t one of my «go-to» places for Japanese + Pasta. I was thinking they must have improved and revamped a lot since relocating… I was wrong. Reservation: I called as soon as they opened(11:01am) to make reservations for dinner and the girl on the phone said they were doing«walk-ins» only… okay? Yet when my party of 10 arrived, they asked if we had reservations?! Parking/Location: Oh geeze, the parking situation is crazy as it shares the same parking lot with tons of other institutions such as 12th Ave Grille. I am still unsure if they validate?! After driving around in circles for a while, I decided to chance my luck on Waialae Ave where I scored FREE street parking(after 6pm). I think much of my party could agree that AP was difficult to find — I mean like the actual restaurant itself. We didn’t see a sign and the little AP statues of the Pasta Man weren’t visible because it was dark. AP is located near the pay booth entrance facing 12th ave, next to a nail salon. Interior/Atmosphere: Other reviews were joking when they said this place gets chilly, temperature wise. Even with a full house, I ended up putting a sweater on. This location is smaller than their previous one as other have stated, making it feel a bit cramped. Food/Service: I ordered the Chicken + Mushroom Pasta in cream sauce, my guest ordered the Carbonara Pasta. We waited 30 minutes for our food, which wasn’t that bad considering one person in our party waited almost an hour for her pasta, to the point where another one of our party members shared his salad with her while she hungrily waited. His first salad delivered was the wrong salad and had to be taken back and remade, which seemed like they just removed and added the correct ingredients? When our orders finally arrived… Server: Whose order is this? Me: What is it? Server: …I don’t know. Servers who don’t know the difference between the pasta dishes?! They definitely need training. My chicken was pretty dry, I left some chicken pieces and ate the pasta + mushroom which was tasty in the cream sauce. But the portion size? Tiny. I am a petite eater but I was still hungry after finishing my entrée. The worst part? About 5 minutes into our meal, my guest found a hair in his food! I called over the waitress to ask her to take the plate away, trying not to make a scene and when she came over she rudely asked«where?!» in disbelief. After she located the hair her face was in disgust and she called the owner/manager over who took the plate away offering to have it remade. My guest said no because it would take too long, he ended up getting Jack In The Box on the way home. They did NOT charge me for the pasta dish with the hair in it… Summary: Angelo Pietro isn’t a «new business» in that they existed previous to their 12th Ave location, but they definitely have new-business-kinks to work out.

I remembered the good ‘ol glory days of Angelo Pietro’s when it was located in the Kapahulu neighborhood…, then one day they moved to the Ala Moana area, just next door to the Shokudo restaurant. Well, since then… Angelo Pietro has closed it’s doors at the Ala Moana location, and has now relocated to the Kaimuki neighborhood. Where is this new Angelo Pietro restaurant located at? Well, the best way to describe it is… Angelo Pietro is sandwiched between the Territorial Savings Bank(Kaimuki Branch) & the Hokkaido Ramen, by the Kaimuki municipal parking lot. There is no Angelo Pietro sign right now, but just look for the two«Pietro Man» statues outside of the door entrance, and that is where the new Pietro restaurant is located. As we walked into the restaurant last night around 6:20PM, I could see the restaurant was already packed with customers… and to top it off, there were also lots of other people waiting to get a table to dine here. Lucky for me, I had the pleasure of dining with a few Unilocal buddies — my favorite auntie Nadine C., Traci R., Terry H. & Darcie, Rachel I. & her fiancé, and of course my gf Jules Y. Since my Unilocal buddies had come a little earlier, they had already secured a large table for us. What can I say about this new Pietro’s? One glaring thing I noticed about this place was the very poor customer service we received that night. I wanted to point out a few things that happened last night — 1. My girlfriend did not get her food until everyone had finished eating their meals. We had to remind them several times about where her food order was… I think it took over an hour to 45 minutes until she finally got her meal. To me, that is totally unacceptable… especially since everyone on our table was served, and had eaten… I noticed the food did not come out at once, but randomly at various times to each diner… I thought that was kinda weird. 2. One of my Unilocal buddies had hair in their food. YUCK! 3. Water was not filled on a regular basis, and cups had gone empty a various times. 4. We had asked our waitress for some lemons for our water, yet we did not get them until we flagged somebody else who was nice enough to finally fulfill our request, as our waitress totally forgot about our request. 5. I had ordered a chicken salad… and the waitress brought out a garden salad & just left it on the table(not by me), but to another diner. Finally Terry H. asked… «Who’s salad is this?» To the waitress, only to find out that was suppose to be my salad, minus the chicken. So they take back the salad, and I think they just dumped some dry chicken on it, then they bring it back out & serves it to me. As for the food… The chicken salad I had was okay, not a lot of salad for just under $ 10 bucks, but I guess it will have to do. On the bright side, I do like the Pietro salad dressings, and I must say the formula hasn’t changed through the years. The chicken was rather dry, but the greens were fresh(that’s a good thing). Girlfriend loved her shrimp & mushroom pasta… but I’m not sure if waiting an hour or so to get your food, after everyone at the table had finished eating is a good thing… I know this place had just reopened recently, so I guess they are going through some growing pains with their new staff. Hopefully things will improve down the line, and they will be back to the glory days of the Kapahulu location. The food prices here are still reasonable… and as for the food, it’s a matter of picking the right item… Some of my Unilocal buddies did not enjoy their food(which I felt bummed for them), yet others like my gf enjoyed hers(which made me happy). All in all, no matter for the bad service… or at times the so-so food, I still had a great time because I had great company to hang out with, and that’s all that mattered to me! :D

This is such a difficult review to compose. I have happy memories of the old location on Kapiolani Boulevard. My sisters and I would celebrate family birthdays there because of the great service and reasonable prices. I’m not sure what happened between that time and now at the present Kaimuki location. I was looking forward to dining with friends, Terry, Darcie, Fran, Rachel and her fiancé, for the first time at a «new» place. Previously, Jules, Traci, and I had fun nom nom times, so no worries there. Just wanted everyone to have an enjoyable experience, but with only 12 days under their belt, Angelo Pietro’s has room for improvement. Not sure of the exact coordinates, I parked across the street at the metered parking lot for $ 1 an hour.(I have lots of quarters.) Using my GPS, I walked towards 12th Avenue where«12th Avenue Grill» used to be. There was no sign, but I recognized the comical male statues and entered the front door. Inside, I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw Terry & Darcie at a table at the entrance. This was it! A newly renovated, plain, rather small, rectangular interior, it smelled slightly of fresh paint! I really liked the large painting of fireworks at the back of the restaurant! Luckily, Terry and Darcie had ordered appetizers and shared the Fresh Tomato Bruschetta, Mozzarella Sticks, and Baked Garlic Shrimp. I saved my stomach for this meal, so when Terry generously encouraged me to taste everything, I was happy to help him. When I took a bite of the bruschetta, some of the tomato topping fell off and that’s when I realized we had no napkins and utensils. I showed the manager(?) that I needed a napkin badly and pointed out that we didn’t have place settings. It took a while and I just held my hand suspended with the caught tomato topping! The utensils and napkins finally came in a little basket — I dealt them out to each person. In the meantime, Rachel arrived and asked about Traci. She thought she had seen her outside. Traci couldn’t find the door, since there’s no sign and the door is facing the street, instead of the parking lot. Rachel called Traci and went outside to get her. I continued with the Baked shrimp — yum! Enjoyed the firm meat and the garlic flavoring of the mushrooms and veggies. The mozzarella was average. Terry left 2 cold pieces and I was still hungry after my entrée, so I finished them off(don’t waste food)! My Mushroom & Bacon penne pasta with Gorgonzola sauce was delicious — I gobbled it up, wishing for more because the portion was quite small for $ 12.50. I used the one piece of garlic bread that came with my dish to soak up all of the sauce. There’s no complimentary bread that the other location used to serve… One of our friends had worked out and run 5 miles before dinner so her dish(shrimp and asparagus pasta in cream sauce) wasn’t satisfying to her in quantity(and taste) either. The water in Las Vegas tastes bad and this water had a chemical flavor, also. Lemon wedges couldn’t help it — we tried. Terry ordered a Pepsi, but it only came in a can, so there were no refills. The servers need more training. When there is a hair in the food — it’s better to have a Poker Face, rather than a look of disgust when calling the manager. When bringing the food to the table, know what dish is in your hands so the customer can claim the correct entrée. When bringing the credit cards back to the table, maybe look at the name on the card and hand it to the proper person? One good thing was dividing up the tab between 3 couples and 2 singles. Another good thing was dining with the«new» happy couple and the«established» happy couple! I felt badly that we all didn’t have a pleasant experience here, but it sure was memorable!!! I might be persuaded to return and use the stamp card, but some of my friends said that they will not. Anyone want to go back with me when they are not in the learning phase?

I’ve been waiting all week to join my Unilocaly friends for this weeknight dinner. Got there around 550 and secured a table for my kids and the 7 of us. Rachel said she called earlier but they wouldn’t take reservations. Dar and I being fashionably early, ordered some appetizers. The $ 5 garlic bread was a joke; minimal and sad to look at. The tomato bruschetta was not bad. The garlic shrimp was with small tasteless shrimp but the mushroom and vegetables were rather tasty. The fried mozzarella was like eating wax. Yes, I’ve eaten wax. The potato salad was the same as it’s always been. Except that I thought they had Ume dressing at one time. Here’s where everything went south. 1 The water tasted like crap. So I ordered a soda. No coke products. And they also have no fountain so you pay per can. There were only 2 choices of beer — longboard and bud lite. 2 The portions were rather small and bland to look at. 3 The food took super long. One had hair in it. One came out as a salad got sent back and came back as a chicken salad. Pretty sure they just slapped the chicken on 4 Hardly any napkins or utensils. Water, straws and lemons took forever to come. We are going to go with the Unilocalies to Win Sputino next time. We won’t be coming back here again.

Oh Angelo, how I’ve missed you! You’re a little different from how I remember you, but the main thing is that you’re back, and your recipes are just as good as before. I’ve always ordered your shrimp and mushroom with tomato sauce pasta. Even though I have to pay an extra $ 1.25 to have it topped with fried onions(when it was free before), that’s ok. I’m just glad that it’s there as an option. And while I miss the complimentary bread and butter, I love the garlic toast that is now served with your pasta. I can’t wait to visit you again Angelo!

It’s back again!!! A long time favorite has now reopen for business. After a long day of work, we decided to check it out. At 5:00, the restaurant was almost empty which was good because the crowd came at 5:30 and beyond. With new menu items it’s hard not to stick to the originals. Sadly, they do not have their complimentary bread. :(We ordered their infamous raw potato salad which is just as amazing w/their yummy dressings on the side. We also ordered their fried calamari which was not oily at all. For entrees I wanted to be daring so I ordered the tarako with ika, which is like a fish egg cream sauce. It was quite interesting but you have to like fish eggs or ikura to like it. What can I say? It wasn’t my type of pasta. My boyfriend ordered the pietro seafood which has a ton of different types of seafood like shrimp, scallops, ika, & more all in a shoyu butter sauce. All entrees have a small piece of garlic bread on the side. Overall, it was pretty good considering they just open and still trying to get the hang of it. I’ll just stick my typical natto pasta next time. Don’t forget to make reservations because by the time we left(7 pm) there was a big crowd outside.

It’s been over a year and I feel like I’m being reunited with an old lover named Angelo Pietro. He left me a little over a year ago but now he’s come back. I was so excited to hear about his return. I’m half that he’s kind of the same but also a little different. They have reopened in Kaimuki in the old Kaimuki Grill location so it’s a little smaller than their old location(seats about 60 people). You can park in the lot or there’s street parking too. I am proud to say I was the first in line and to be seated on the grand opening day! They have some of the old favorites and some new dishes as well. See my menu photos. They have a small appetizers and salad list. The raw potato salad is a must. Raw potato? Sounds weird I know but it’s delicious and so crunchy. The best part of course is using their famous dressings on it: shoyu, ginger, sesame miso and ume. My personal favorites are the ume and Shoyu. You just need a little bit and the best part is they have no MSG in them! Seafood Pietro style is my absolute favorite go to dish. It has seafood in a light shoyu sauce. I love shoyu pasta since tomato or cream sauce is too heavy for me sometimes. Spaghetti Sukiyaki style is one of their newer dishes. It’s a great dish that combines sukiyaki with spaghetti noodles and they put an egg on it! That makes it even better! Pork and eryngii spicy cream sauce is a little too spicy for me but it had good but light cream flavor. What I love the malt about this place is their pasta. Their spaghetti is always made al dente. So happy but this just reaffirms something I tell all my friends, all the good food is in Kaimuki!
