Came here almost every other day for 3 weeks March of last year. Quality and cuts they give have gone down significantly. Would still come but no longer the place to rave about

This is my first time here and I will be back. The selections are a plenty, the prices are very reasonable and the food is awesome. I had the natto bowl it came with miso soup and I love it! I highly recommend this place. It fills you up for very little.

The best. Simply… the best. Spicy Ahi is a local Hawaii favorite… we’ve innovated the recipe over and over; some people add more mayo, others more tobiko, some chili oil, etc. Chunks, or Taretare? Some actually have that spicy kick, while others are devilishly red in color, but lacking in piquant punch. No matter what, we love it any way we can get it… but there is one universal requirement — the fish gotta be FRESH! Ahi & Vege fans are true believers. Sure there are alot of places that do poke right, but Ahi Vege donburi bowls aren’t really poke(even though they serve it on the menu), it’s really a taretare style, ground up medley of delivious ahi with tobiko, a very light touch of mayo, and some secret mix of chili style seasonings that are unique across the food genre… Couple that oh, so fresh fish with SUSHI rice, and a side of bok choy, and you can’t go wrong. Prices are a little steep at $ 10 a bowl, but hey, you get a tasty bowl of miso soup to wash it down with… Want more rice, only a $ 1. It is notable that all prices are inclusive of tax, so do the math, and your pocket book isn’t hurting as much as you thought. The main, modest location is along Fort Street Mall nearby Marukame Udon and HPU… drop in during off peak hours since lunch time is hella busy… try it. Have it more than once to really take in the flavors, and I promise, you’ll be a true believer too… no other spicy ahi bowl will come close after that.

I went there for the first time yesterday, on the advice of some of my co-workers who love the spicy ahi and veggies. First of all, it cost $ 10.00, which I think is high for lunch, but that’s because I don’t eat out much. Then, when I got the food to the office, I discovered all I had was a scoop of ahi and lettuce, with extra sauce. Really? Not even rice? I thought maybe because ahi is more expensive this time of year that justified the high price for fish and lettuce. Then, as the day wore on, I got progressively sick, and stayed that way throughout the evening. I’m going back on my way home today and hope they’re still open so I can share my experience with them personally. Based on this first(and last) experience, I won’t be back P. S. Since that day I have been back to share my experience with the staff. What I was served was what you get for $ 10.00. However, for $ 1.00 more I could have gotten rice and miso soup. Still too expensive on my budget. I was asked what I wanted to compensate and I said I didn’t want anything but to share my concern and experience. The woman was gracious and gave me some miso soup for my still upset stomach and a menu to come back. I’ve experienced extreme reactions to fish before, depending on how it’s prepared, so it may not have had anything to do with the fish as it was fresh and no one else reported a problem. The two stars I’m giving my rating is basically for the price, and nothing else.

I have decided to update my three-year-old one-star review. I have eaten at Ahi and Vegetable twice in the last two weeks and both times the food has been satisfactory, quick and I have been able to find a place to sit. Perhaps, the seating problems that dogged the place previously were not present at my last two visits because it is a different season and the restaurant is less crowded. They also have some meat items, for example today I had beef curry and rice. they serve the rice and curry separately so the curry sauce stays warm while you are eating the salad. They also apparently calculate the prices so with tax they come to an even dollar amount. I think the beef curry and drink and the salmon salad, miso soup and drink both came to exactly $ 10. That is a nice touch and reminded me of sports venues that post weird prices like a hotdog for $ 3.82 but when they ring it up is comes to an even $ 4.00. Will most likely be back to Ahi and Vegetable.

Believe it or not, the best thing to eat at Ahi & Vegetable is the salmon sashimi. It’s the only place I’ve discovered that serves thick pieces of raw salmon. Another cool thing about Ahi & Vegetable, I could customize any bento order. For example, I want to order a B9 and it comes with teriyaki chicken, poke, salmon, and rice; I could replace the teriyaki chicken with all salmon. Also, if I don’t want the ginger, I just tell the kind folks at Ahi & Vegetable that I want all vegetables and no ginger. Awesome customer service.

I’ve been coming here for years and have visited several locations, including two in downtown Honolulu, and the new location in the Kapalama Shopping Center. This is a review for the downtown Fort Street Mall location.(the Alakea Street location closed couple years ago due to building renovation by the landlord). The Fort Street Mall location is a perfect location! It is very popular and very busy, since it is situated in a prime spot in the middle of Fort Street mall for those working downtown, the HPU college students and downtown crowd. This location is not very large for dine in, but does accommodate a good number of patrons. They do offer take out or for those on the go. This location is clean and service is exceptional! Service is quick, perfect for those ordering out or on the go! Ahi & Vegetable only serves the freshest, high quality, high grade ahi! I especially love their spicy tuna on sushi rice! They only use high grade rice from Japan. They also offer brown rice and plain white rice. Their spicy tuna is chopped very fine, like a spread, not chunky like other places! The spicy tuna is my favorite item on the menu, although I have had others, including the salmon/ikura, unagi, teriyaki and curry bowls as well! All of them are unique and delicious in its own right! All of their sushi bowls come with miso soup. Order the set for a dollar more, and it comes with a salad with sesame miso dressing! They serve a variety of bowls, bentos, nigiri sushi, sashimi and hand rolls. For your catering needs, they also offer party platters. Please call in advance to place your order to allow them prep time. If you are looking for high quality sashimi or sushi for a reasonable price, check out Ahi & Vegetable on Fort Street Mall or their other location. :)

I’ve actually come here many times over the years but I’m finally writing up my review for it. My usual«go to» is the Spicy Ahi/Kim Chee Vegetable and side Miso Soup. Love Love Love it because its a perfect balance of Spicy Ahi and Salad on the bottom. Their home made peanut salad dressing is the best! The flavor of the Kim Chee is also really tasty and yummy. The miso soup is good and flavorful. This place is busy during 11:30 — 12:30 because there is a large lunch rush from both HPU students and downtown people. BUT they are very efficient and I usually dont need to wait very long. The fish here is fresh and tasty and if you are doing a Low Carb diet this is the place to check out because you can also get Teriyaki Chicken Salad and other fresh poke. If you are ordering for a few people you can call ahead your order. There are also tables inside to sit down and eat if you can find a available table. The other location is in Kalihi and its just as good as I’ve eaten there as well. This is one of my favorites when I’m in the mood for spicy ahi, I think just that peanut dressing alone keeps me coming back!

I tried two things here the other day: Spicy ahi rice bowl and salmon salad combo. The salmon salad was better because the taste never got old. I lost my appetite for the spicy ahi bowl because I simply thought that the salmon was better. It was a great experience and I would like to come back and try more things. The service was good and I felt welcomed. Price was fair.

It’s one of those places that I’ve been looking for a very long time. Sashimi combination deal, with Miso soup, and healthy alternatives. With the price I’m payin for this mega deal, I actually wish I didn’t find this place cause they can take my money. Everything on my bento tasted really good. Salmon sashimi tasted milky, tuna was rich and meaty, and the poke on the side was enough to satisfy my palette. Then wash it down with some nice hot miso soup to keep my tummy happy. Duuuude, best $ 8 dollars ever spent. To me it’s a given to choose this place over the pricier Aloha Salad for the healthier side of choices.

I started volunteering at the Judiciary and found this place on Unilocal. It had good ratings so I decided to eat here on my lunch break. It was CROWDED so I did a take out of teriyaki chicken, which came with a side salad. I waited for at least ten minutes while everyone else that came after me got their food. The lady told me that she gave me extra dressing because I had to wait for so long(that was… nice…). For portions, this place can do better. The bowl was big but there were only six pieces of chicken. However, those six pieces were so soft and flavorful that I didn’t care about the small size. It was really good. :) That’s the reason for the four stars, but I’ll be taking out from here again.

Not the typical spicy ahi I remember. Purchased 7÷21÷2015. I opened the container 15 minutes after purchasing. The fish was not even remotely cold(warm in fact) even in the middle of the clump of spicy ahi. It just didn’t have a very fresh taste or smell to it. When I tried to deconstruct the spicy ahi ball I found the the middle contained mashed up fish that was not even coated with the spicy ahi sauce. I smelled this portion and now I understand why they use such a thick combo of mayo, spices, and sesame oil. Its to mask the obvious low quality of the fish. I’m glad that they didn’t do a good job of mixing my bowl because I’m not sure if I would order this again. The fish in the middle was not cold and not fresh. I hope the owners can see my review as constructive because if the freshness of fish can be improved, the spicy ahi bowl is a great meal. I don’t have any criticism for the sashimi or other fishes I have not tried. GOODLUCK ahi & veggie! I hope it was a fluke, but if not, just wanna warn the people.

I loooove spicy ahi. I also love salad. Ahi and Vegetable therefore fulfills both these food loves… and it’s all served up with amazing sesame/peanut dressing! Ahi and Vegetable is located in fort street mall. It’s super convenient for people who work down town and can get take out, otherwise, I’d suggest trying their other location in kalihi for better parking and a more spacious dining area. This location has only a few tables and it get really super crazy during the lunch rush. I felt rushed when I was ordering, but the cashier at least smiled at me when I was trying to figure out what to order. I wanted spicy ahi and salmon, which is not a combination of the menu. Apparently, you can add sashimi to any of the meals for only a few extra dollars! You can order your poke/sashimi on salad or on rice, and then on top of that, you can make it a combo(side salad or side of rice and miso soup for only $ 1 more). This is exactly how I like to eat poke: on salad with a side of rice. I don’t know anywhere else that will serve me up this perfect combination. When ordering a salad, you get a choice of salad dressing. I chose the vinaigrette, but I will be getting the«mild» dressing from now on. The salmon sashimi tasted fresh, and they dress it a little with some kind of oil which is nice. The spicy ahi is also very flavorful, not to spicy and has plenty of masago:) yum yum. Unless I’m back in downtown for some reason, I will probably be frequenting the dillingham location more often… especially because they have hamachi too! However, if I worked downtown, this would probably be one of my favorite lunch spots!

I absolutely LOVE this place! My go to place when I’m in downtown for lunch. My favorite thing to get is the B8 bento with sushi rice sub. all ahi sashimi, a must try! Place is always packed at lunch so to try avoid the line try go a little bit before the lunch rush hour or after.

I got my first job in the downtown area and the one thing people tell me is «oh wow! you can eat all so many good places!!» Well I finally made a point to wander around during my lunch break and came across this place. After a quick check on Unilocal and reading the good reviews, I’ve decided to give it a try. What really confirmed my choice for eating here was the salmon dishes. and the option to sub for even more salmon. I didn’t do that this time since I wanted to give everything a try. Maybe next time. I got the sashimi plate. Its salmon and ahi sashimi on a bed of salad. you get a choice of dressing as well. Let me tell you how fast they are! After I paid for my meal, before I could even put my money away in my wallet, my order was ready! Yeah its just sliced fish on grass but there have been other places I’ve been to that took way longer than necessary. The sashimi was very yummy and fresh. The salad was ok. nothing special really. but that doesn’t bother me too bad. definitely planning to come back here when I need a salmon fix

First time actually buying my own food from this place. Trying the low-carb diet thing right now and well it’s pretty hard to find foods that don’t have rice, bread, noodles, etc. at lunch in downtown especially budget friendly. So stopped in here, knowing that they have some pretty decent quality fish. Bought the sashimi platter($ 11), on the menu it comes with Ahi and Salmon but I don’t care for ahi too much and substituted for extra salmon(mmm). What I was really happy with is that it comes with some actual salad lettuce, cabbage, carrot shreds and house dressing is quite tasty. Not the cheapest thing to eat in downtown but definitely happy with what I got for my money. I would definitely buy this again, maybe every other week I could indulge in some lunch time sashimi :) Don’t forget to leave your business card to become part of their community wall! Helps to pass the time when they get really busy during peak lunch hour.

Downtown Honolulu and looking for the best poke around? Come to this place! It’s always busy, but the staff is so efficient it never feels too bad. There is plenty of indoor seating as most people take it to go. They offer an extensive menu of the freshest poke around– I usually opt for the spicy ahi. Today I had it over salad; the pairing of the spicy ahi with shoyu and the peanut dressing is a succulent combination. The fish is so fresh and moist. The combo is a must– it adds rice and miso for only $ 1 extra. Free water is available, as are a large drink selection. The restaurant is located on Fort Street mall in the heart of the business district and Hawai’i Pacific University. There are oodles of places to eat and shop around, right on the cusp of Chinatown. Like most lunch places in the city, it’s only open on weekdays during lunch/afternoon hours. There are tables outside, but none specifically for this restaurant. Prices are reasonable, especially for the quality. Staff is nice and very fast.

What can I say about Ahi & Vegetable that hasn’t been said already? Poke bowls, bentos, salads, etc… the menu and recipes haven’t changed much since inception. Which by the way, is a good thing! Of course prices have increased over the years but the quality of ingredients and taste remain fresh, simple, and satisfying. It’s always crowded here but somehow the ladies take your order and manage to push out your order fairly quickly. I always get their maguro/salmon sashimi or spicy salmon with salad. I really like that they use good quality sushi rice, decently seasoned. I’ve never had their cooked items(like BBQ chicken), but it does seem like a popular alternative. Conveniently located in Ft. Street Mall for downtown workers and/or students, this location is only open Mon-Fri, through the early evening. I am here at least once a week to get my sashimi fix!

In the center of Fort Street Mall, there is a double door leading to my weekly dose of omega-3s. Ran by your average ajhummas, Ahi & Vegetable is definitely within the top 3 spots to go downtown for your ahi lunchie munchies. Everything from dons, sushi bentos, and even platters, this location has everything you would think to buy for lunch. The best part is, this restaurant, unlike the other 99% of businesses in America, include the tax in their prices shown on the menu. Therefore, what you see is what you pay for and there is no scam in trying to make you feel like the food is «cheap» only to add on the tax later. The spicy ahi don $ 9(with the occasional addition of ikura +$ 2) is the perfect balance to your diet. And mine, of course. Fresh from the pier, the ahi is prepared early in the morning. From there, it is scooped on your choice of white or brown rice. I usually ask for extra white rice(free of charge) as the portions may seem a bit smaller for your average meal. I come here almost every week and I do not intend to change that habit any time soon. From my experience, Ahi & Veggie gives a larger portion than Ahi Lovers which is just enough to fill me. Although I prefer little cubed ahi bites, the mushy stuff will do just fine.

There is a war raging in Downtown Honolulu. No, it’s not Punahou vs. Iolani. It’s the battle of the Best Spicy Ahi: Ahi Lovers vs. Ahi & Vegetable. While both serve fresh and delicious spicy ahi at similar prices, it is difficult to find a downtownie who isn’t aggressively one side over the other. I am partial to Ahi Lovers myself, but it is admittedly difficult to find fault with Ahi & Vegetable. Their spicy ahi, which is more of a mashed texture than cubed raw fish, always tastes fresh and has a subtle hint of spicy. You can order sushi rice or brown rice and each bowl comes with Chinese broccoli and ginger. For a few dollars more, you can upgrade your bowl to a set which includes miso soup and a side salad. Ahi & Vegetable’s popularity means that lunch time can be very busy. I arrived shortly after 12 and already found a small line forming. Thankfully, service is extremely fast(although sometimes brusque) and you will receive your food shortly after ordering. With plenty of tables and chairs located inside Ahi & Vegetable, there is no shortage of available seating. Ahi Lovers and Ahi & Vegetable both pride themselves on fresh quality and great tasting spicy ahi bowls, so it’s a win-win no matter which side you choose.
