I always pass by here on my way to work when the #2 bus isn’t on time and I gotta walk from Liliha Street to my work place on Lanikila Avenue. Having said that, it was interesting to see this place, since I haven’t been to this place, since I just pass by here on the bus. Having more time in the morning meant seeing this place for the first time in a long while made me appreciate being a Unilocaler and an adventurer I am meant to be. Located on North School Street, it’s pretty much next to the empty lot next to Liliha Street. It’s a neat little store that most people would miss if you are not looking for it. My suggestion would to come here for your drinks after hitting up McDonald’s for breakfast. Ace BBQ& Market reminds me of a quaint 7-Eleven, but it’s not. It’s basically a liquor store that sells drinks, cigarettes, and assorted random stuff, like porn magazines, and snacks to keep everyone who comes in here on a daily basis. I was surprised to see that they do sell spam musubi’s so that was a winner @ $ 1.50. Really? Spam Musubi for just $ 1.50? You can have one without egg($ 1.50) or with egg for $.50 more. I thought that’s a good deal, if I ever saw one. Better than candy and it’s a real meal to a lot of folks who lead busy lives these days. Maybe I will pick up a bottle of liquor on the way home from work one of these days, since it’s relatively comparable to other stores around town. The service wasn’t too friendly when they see new customers, but I’m sure they are happy that we newbies to the store and buy something — especially those musubi’s. After reading Unilocaler feedback of Ace BBQ and trying to compare Ace’s version of the spam musubi and the typical 7-Eleven’s version, there was basically no contest. Ace’s version was hands down the better of the two and I hope that 7-Eleven pays attention sooner or later. The liquor selection was pretty good, although not as expansive as I thought it would be, but still it was good. They have pretty much everything here, so grab your favorite brew or drink and head on to Waikiki, or wherever your travels may take you on the island. Support local! B+

A Liquor store that has really great spam musbi’s? I Say YES! Two different type is made all day, with($ 2.00)or without egg($ 1.50). There is other snacks there but who cares! I Want Them Spam Musubi! Yum! It is located on School St, right after you cross Liliha St on the right. Parking in front of the Store or on the street .If you are West bound and Craving for a Musubi, take the School St Exit to get there. To get back on the Freeway going West, back on School St. Left on Alaneo St. Right on Vineyard Blvd and the Freeway entrance is right in front of you.

It’s just a liquors store! Why five stars? Well let me explain. First of all the obvious. This place has all the basic conveniences expected out of a liquor store: array of soda, juice, liquor and beers, cigarettes, small section of porno mags, generic toys to keep the keiki happy, and a decent snack collection. Now the secret(or maybe not anymore when you yeeps find out)… What sets this place apart from all the rest is the spam musubi($ 1.50). Yeah many liquor stores have a spam musubi but the spam musubi here is perfect! Trust me when I was preggos I craved spam musubi and tried a lot from different places. The spam is the perfect thickness with just the right amount of Teri sauce– in Rap’s words«not too sweet… Not too rancid… But just right ah!» Also, I hate when the rice in the musubi crumbles when I eat it and well this magical musubi does not crumble! I have one more reason this place has the BEST spam musubi– although the musubi is snuggly wrapped in plastic wrap, the nori around it is not soggy. There actually is some crisp and crunch to it! The Korean lady who runs the show is not to friendly. However she recognizes me and smiles now when I stop by for my spam musubi and diet Dr. Pepper! ** there also is an egg and spam musubi that is decent. The rice falls apart on that one And no crunch in the Nori. However it is very filling and good bang for your buck($ 1.75).
