Marlene’s Custom Sewing & Alterations

Marlene is the best as it is hard to find good seamstresses and tailors. I took my dress in to be altered as my son was getting married. It turned out perfect and i was so comfortable in it. I have since taken some jeans which she cut and refinished the hem as it originally looked. I will be bringing any alterations I have to her.

We take all of out alterations to Marlene. Her work is meticulous and service is friendly! She worked on our pants, suits, skirts, jackets with care.
She is the only seamstress I would ever use, as we had few bad experiences in the area before.
I love seeing her pup at work as well. Suck a cute guard dog :)

My wife has been a customer of Marlene’s for decades! We just picked a blanket that she applied a binding. Her work is great. We were in no hurry to pickup the blanket since it is August! the results were spectacular. Happy to learn that her work is being recognized from more than the Homewood area. Heard her story about a series of bridesmaids dresses for a single wedding. What makes her amazing is her true belief in helping people make the correct choice. EVEN if it means losing business. She turned down a request to create a wedding gown as it would have cost more time than the client would have liked. But more importantly, she provided the prospect a few locations that would do better for the prospect!

Marlene seemed very nice, but I was not happy with the service or quality of work. I had the bodice of a bridesmaid dress altered and pricing was $ 60. I considered that high especially since there is no pressing service provided. I asked about it and she said she would touch it up so that I would not need to get it pressed, but she did not do it.
Attempting to press myself later in the week, I notice a sleeve coming loose. Back to Marlene’s I go. She was very apologetic and fixed right away. She offered a $ 10 gift card which I declined. The right thing to do if she wanted my business in the future would be to refund some of my cost on the spot. Most people don’t have a need for alterations often.
Marlene also does not accept credit cards.

I just picked up my bridesmaid dress for my sister’s wedding and she did an amazing job. She was extremely friendly and absolutely talented. Also very affordable, which was a major plus. I will certainly have her do all my alterations in the future.

A friend recommended Marlene’s to me recently so I brought in a bridesmaids dress I needed altered. I was a little nervous because the proportions of the dress were way off, the bust was huge and had ruching so I wasn’t sure how it could be fixed easily! I brought it in with only two weeks until the wedding (I know, dumb!) but Marlene was able to get it done in just a week. She had me come in for one quick fitting (no fittings at the dry cleaner I used to go to!) and it was perfect when I picked it up. All together it was altered in two different spots and the length was shortened. She even pressed it, no charge. Not only is she efficient and a talented seamstress, but so warm and nice and it feels like you are old friends. I’ll definitely be back!
