I took the highway down from Tennessee to Florida with my mom and grandma, and this treasure is exactly way. You will not find down home southern cooking like this off the 75. We stopped for lunch(since that’s the only time they’re open besides Friday night) and mom and I had the buffet. Mom loved the fried chicken, said it was some of the best she’s ever had. I don’t really like fried chicken but I tried a small piece and it was delicious. The sides were amazing. The corn bread and biscuits were perfect, as were the collard greens. I wanted a gallon of the mashed potatoes and gravy to go! They were the best I’ve ever had. Just the right amount of pepper. Yum. The sweet tea was super delicious too. Grandma had the chicken fingers and the breaking was perfect. So good. If I’m ever forced to take 441 again for 400 miles, I would time it so I could eat here again.

My wife and I went there for Sunday lunch with Ms. Jane, proprietor of a bed and breakfast in town. Mama’s offers a buffet of pretty darn good southern cooking. The fried chicken was good and a beef(oxtail?) soup over the rice was great. The sides and cornbread were very good. I wasn’t quite sure what the desert was(chocolate cream pie?) as the presentation wasn’t much but it tasted good. Mama’s is group-, family-, and kid friendly. We’ll definitely stop by again if we ever get back to Homerville.

Really good fried chicken and veggies were good also but the blueberry cobbler. Man that stuff will make you need a nap shortly after lunch!!! That stuff was good!

Typical Southern. No fanfare. Had a lunch buffet and it was good. It’s not Magnolias, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s a nice restaurant, with nice people running it, and good food. That’s all it ever has to be!
