This place is a hoot. 45 years old, it’s a biker institution. The folks are friendly and nice. And colorful. The drinks are cheap and the welcome mat is out. Live music on weekends, the place is great fun. Old school.

I wish that I could write separate reviews for the bar itself(1 star) and the people there(5 stars), but had to compromise with 3 stars. I found myself down the street bringing my car in for an oil change one morning, and I realized I really didn’t want to sit around the Honda lobby for an hour. Alas, the only logical option was to walk over to the closest bar. I got to the Southern Fox Tavern and was immediately frightened. After scanning the area for a logical entrance to my alcohol haven, I decided that the door-ish looking thing must be it. It didn’t have a knob or handle, just the bolt/screw that door knobs traditionally are attached to. I put on my big girl face and went in. I was shocked by how dark it was inside. At first I thought my eyes were broken and not adjusting after coming in from outside, but it was honestly just really, really dark. Imagine plugging in a nightlight and turning off every other light in your house. That is the lighting here. If I had not just endured about 5 cat calls on the walk down 441 to get here, I probably would have left, but I really needed a drink at this point. I’m glad I stayed. I chatted with the owner and one bar patron for a solid hour and barely spent $ 5 at the end of it all. I am very curious what this place is like when it’s not 11:00am. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I recommend this bar, but if you are in the area and need to kill some time, go for it!
