August 3, 2015: This paragraph is a revision of the 2013 five star report. We moved my 90 year old mother in law to Whispering Pines in February 2015 after she became unable to take care of her own medication and has become increasingly forgetful. Whispering Pines is still an excellent place for any loved one who can no longer be alone. Because it is family run, you get a more personalized level of care. It’s a pleasant place and they do their best to keep it so both visually and emotionally. The price is also good compared to the«next level of care» at some of the local assisted living facilities. Margaret has a nice room, big closet, private bathroom, with French doors facing a garden. She enjoys walking the grounds. She reports the food is good… if repetitive, the staff very kind and helpful«they meet my needs before I even ask» particularly nurse Devin who seems to be everywhere at once. They do an excellent job of supervising her medication. The limited number of rooms makes it more like a family. The number of Alzheimer’s patients does limit the enrichment offered as far as activities. Most people sit in the big living room in front of the giant TV. There is a beauty shop on site and a good library. Snappy conversation is rare, but most of the people are very sweet. For slightly extra you can have your own cable TV and phone. Margaret is very happy there. I’m dropping the stars down mostly because I would not want to leave Margaret alone there. she was an executive in her time, might still be able to play bridge, and needs the stimulation of regular visits and trips out. It’s still the best place. This is the 2013 five star report… still true My 88 year old father moved to Whispering Pines Inn, after he was not ambulatory enough to live in his assisted living apartment. He has a large, close family who researched potential places from Hollister, to South San Jose, finally settling on WPI due to it’s location, cleanliness, the personal care offered by the staff, good food, and very homey environment. It’s possible most of the residents have some degree of dementia, which could be a minus for a disabled person with a sharp mind. Other than that, I cannot recommend WPI more highly. Dad only lived three weeks at WPI. Upon his arrival, his health took an immediate turn for the worse. With the help of WPI were able to enroll him into hospice/visiting nurses. This meant Dad could spend his last days in his own room, surrounded by family. The care and concern both Dad and the family received from every single staff member was respectful, professional, compassionate, thoughtful, and supportive. If you have an older person who needs more care than you can provide, this can be their home away from home. We were lucky to find Whispering Pines. You would be too.

What a lovely Senior place in Hollister, CA. I came to do a facility tour two weeks ago and I was so impressed and so honored. The welcome staff was very friendly and was so pleasant. The owner and Administrator, Chuck, was very professional and very knowledgeable. He and the staff were very accomodating. The facility look and smell clean and as pretty as it shows in their website. My parents have now been living there and they are very happy. It is their home now! I will definitely stay in this senior home myself ahh… twenty years from now?
