Always delicious! They have great lunch and early bird dinner specials, they also have half-off sushi rolls during the week. The service is great and they always let my daughter get extra fried rice instead of soup and salad. The yakinuki is a favorite.

We always enjoy having dinner at the hibachi grill at wild chef. Nice presentation without being over the top to the pint of embarrassment for us introverts. White sauce is good. Early bird special makes it very affordable and plenty of food. Wish you didn’t have to order two to get special but they will box one for take home. Soup nice umami flavored. Have not tried the sushi.

Just went for a birthday celebration for the hibachi. Canned carrots? Really? Almost nothing entertaining as far as a show at the grill. They need to make an effort.

I had no trouble getting into the restaurant on a Saturday evening. First impression is that it is generally clean but it is a small place. Service is somewhat friendly, but very slow.(While I did get seated right away, I didn’t get a refill on a drink until the end of the meal). The chef we had was not really into it, and only added some ‘theater’ and display to the first few minutes of his cooking(the prep stage) but once the meat hit the table he just cooked and didn’t interact. Finally the amount of food you get is very small compared other hibachi places in West Michigan. Osaka and Kobe in Grand Rapids give you 50% more meat than this place does — for about the same price, and the food at those two places is well seasoned and tasty. The food at Wild Chef doesn’t stand out taste-wise in any way — it’s what I’d expect from a food cart at a convention, not a sit down restaurant.

I get take out here at least twice a week, and have probably done so approximately 25 times. My roll(I always get the Wild Chef roll) is always ready in under 10 minutes, and 8 times out of 10 is constructed in a way where the roll does not fall apart.

Had lunch here about 3 hours ago and I’ve had a stomach ache since. I don’t think the sushi was fresh. I was disappointed that my sushi/sashimi lunch didn’t include tuna. Maybe the hibachi is better. The only reason they didn’t get 1 star is because the service was fast and polite.

Great food and customer service. The atmosphere is fully supportive of choosing the carry out option.

I am usually not a fan of asian food but this was really good. We ate at the hibachi grill and the show that the chefs put on is great. I got the scallop hibachi and it was perfectly cooked. If you go there make sure you try the white sauce that they serve on the side. Delicious! It may be a little expensive but for the amount of food they give you it is extremely reasonable. I definitely recommend it.

This place is pretty good but id rather eat Kobe in Grandville. Of course everyone raves about the white sauce and yes they’re right its good. Aarons roll sushi was also pretty tasty.

I love sushi. I’m not in love with their sushi. If I’m craving it and I don’t want to spend the money I’ll head here. They’ve got good deals and discounts. But if you’re going for quality go to Mizu or just drive to Grand Rapids for AYCE. Like someone else had mentioned there’s not much competition for sushi/asian cuisines in the area. However, I don’t want to discredit Wild Chef in its entirety. The staff/customer is great. I’ve never had a bad experience. Even when it gets busy and I almost feel like I’ve been forgotten they come running in with other requests(usually asking for ponzu/spicy mayo sauce/more napkins). I’ve some of the other dishes like the chicken katsu and teriyaki. The presentation of the platter is something I would totally Instagram, but(again) not a big fan. Every time I come here I always end up getting something different though… Also everytime I’m here I hear a ton of requests for white sauce… decided to try some for myself… it’s literally just Japanese mayo. For those of you who like spicy mayo on your sushi, it’s exactly that, but without the spice.

Great sushi!!! The habatchi is also good. My family gets the habatchi while I get the sushi and have never been disappointed. I recommend u get the white sauce on your salad over the ginger sauce. If you want a great place to have a group of friends with great food this is perfect. Or if you want to sit in the booth area you can order the same items they just cook it in the back.(You get a ton more). Drink options are good and a decent list of Sake to try.

I’m planning a mini-reunion with college buds in Holland and wanted to make sure all my favorite places were still open, when I realized that I haven’t reviewed Wild Chef — and it’s been 5 years since graduation. Whoa. We used to go here a few times a year during college and when we’d visit over the summers too. The hibachi is delicious. Everything is fresh and yummy, and the fish & ginger sauces are great. The lunch specials are fantastic, especially for broke college kids. I’ve also had their sushi, and it’s really good. I really can’t wait to go back next time I’m in Holland.

Best sushi in Holland. The service is decent. It could use some serious sprucing up.

I used to order sushi from here quite often as it was really the only place around with sushi. Yet on 2 separate occasions I became seriously ill. The first time I pushed it off as I must have gotten the flu(I already had a cold). But the second time I became Ill, it was to the point of hospitalization. At about 3:30am, my stomach ache/nausea turned to violent vomiting amongst other symptoms. The severity of it and dehydration ended me up in the hospital with an IV for 2 days. I had ingested a stomach parasite that I had to be on rounds of medication for. NEVER will I go back there. Also, in the news in Holland it was told that many people became sick there during that time.

Wow Unilocalers, I don’t recall ever being steered so wrong with this place. We met my son here yesterday looking for a decent place near US31 as he drove back to Chicago. Based on reviews on this site, we got ‘fried rice’ with shrimp. Have any of you ever had fried rice before? This was not fried rice. It wasn’t fried, there was nothing else in it. This was tasteless goop with tasteless shrimp(admittedly a fair number of shrimp) with a mystery white sauce to go on top of it. It was almost embarrassing how awful it was. I gave it two stars because the sushi we ordered before hand, and the salad was pretty good. Not great. but good. but the fried rice? Avoid it.

We stopped here for a dinner going back to Chicago. This place has four stars because there is no competition around. The place is worn down but has a great service. Sushi itself is a little overpriced. The rolls taste alike. The rice was soft and fish amount was just right. Overall it is average sushi place, nothing exiting.

Ton of food! Had the wild chef special for 21.95. Chicken, steak and a lot of shrimp. For 2 dollars more you can get bigger shrimp. Fried rice and veggies were good. Soup was bland and salad was ok. Show wad good and service great but restaurant was dead.

Not bad for Holland. A great takeout option. In holland visiting family, I thought I’d be adventurous and try the sushi place. I’ve eaten a lot of sushi, from several Nobu restaurants, two trips to japan, and all over South Florida. My «test» is always the tuna sashimi. I came in on a Monday evening to order. There is nothing impressive about the restaurant. It looks like it was built out by the owner, not by a restaurant builder. Choppy spaces, amateur finishes. I wouldn’t enjoy eating in, except maybe at the hibachi with a group. Three tables were occupied about 7:30. I ordered a tuna Tataki, which was very good but different from any I’ve seen before. I was expecting slightly seared and extremely thin tuna. What came was actually better. Thick slices of raw tuna dusted with something quite spicy(reminded me of a Thai preparation), on a bed of cucumber slices. Very good, but spicy for most local palates. I asked for kani Su off the menu; a riceless roll of krab and roe wrapped in cucumber, in a vinegar sauce. Although they do a riceless roll wrapped in cucumber, they could not accommodate my request. I ordered seaweed salad, and was asked if I wanted deluxe. Of course I do. It came with some added fish and was super crunchy and dressed nicely. I could eat that all day. I ordered the sashimi appetizer to test the raw fish. When I got home, I realized they gave me the sushi appetizer by mistake. The tuna, salmon, shrimp and another fish were all very fresh. The sushi rice was nicely seasoned. The fish, however, all felt warm. I’m used to warm sushi rice with a cold fish on top. I had hot edamame in the bag, but my drive home was only 5 minutes. I suspect they may leave the fish out of the refrigerator as they use it. Edamame was nice and plump, but totally unsalted. Over all, I think its a nice, healthy option for takeout in Holland. Enjoy!
