My husband and I loved moynihans while shopping downtown! We took the time to make candles, and the associate was extremely knowledgeable and you could tell she really enjoyed her job. My husband made a candle reminiscent of Parks and Recs Ron Swanson, with bourbon, pine needles, and campfire. Mine was a delish blend of pear, pizzelle, and caramel. So much to choose from and you literally can’t screw up the candle experience. Definitely worth checking out if in the area!

This shop is filled with fun, unique finds. I wish the stock rotated more, though. We were there during the summer of 2014 and just there last weekend and saw a lot of the same items still for sale. The candle bar looked very cool but we didn’t have the time to stop and use it. Overall, a fun little place to find unique gift and home items.

PROS: Cute stuff, and the candle-making experience looks fun. CONS: We walked in today and weren’t greeted even after the worker saw us. And then literally, right after us, another pair of women came in behind us, and the worker promptly went out of her way to greet the new customers – still not greeting us. I mean, she LITERALLY walked over and greeted them, ignoring us, even though we were in the same space as them. I still decided to give her the benefit of the doubt, but even after I was looking at the candles RIGHTNEXT to this worker, she didn’t greet me and didn’t even ask if I had any questions. I felt like because I was wearing a hat backwards on my head, she didn’t think it was worth the effort to see if I needed help with anything because, of course, I wasn’t going to buy anything ANYWAY, right? Honestly, Holland is a tourist attraction – if you’re trying to make business, make sure you treat EVERYONE respectfully as a valued customer, not just the people who look like they have«money.» The funny thing is, my husband and I were on a MAJOR shopping spree for vacation, and although there was a bunch of cool items, we left because of the lack of customer service and discrimination we received. Meaning, we would have bought some items if that employee didn’t discriminate against me for looking like a «gangster»! How’s that for a self-fulfilling prophecy? So if you feel like being discriminated against for not looking like you’re gonna spend money(whatever THAT looks like), come here! Otherwise, dress up really fancy and nice to receive good service – OR you can go to the store Kayla’s in the same district, and get GREAT customer service(which we received when we arrived) and an even cuter item selection! I loved them! :) Maybe next time Moynihan employees will think twice about greeting the next person who comes in with a snapback hat(or any«poor”-looking person, for that matter), because I guarantee you, they will have lost more potential customers(AKAMONEY) with this 1-star review on Unilocal than they would have if they’d just greeted me in the first place. Sincerely, The customer with a pink snapback hat that you didn’t greet because you thought I was too poor to buy anything anyway :)

This is a wonderful shop! My friends and I were on our annual«girl trip» and the place was recommended to us by the manager of the hotel where we stayed. My husband is handicapped and each year his sister takes care of him so the 3 of us can take a trip somewhere. We always want a nice and/or unique gift for her. So this year we made a candle at the Candle-Ology bar which was quite fun and turned out really lovely. She loved it! In addition, the gift shop is filled with wonderful items and I even managed to spend some money on myself buying a wonderful wrap with a gift card my son gave me for my birthday. My friends also spent plenty of money here too. We loved the shop and spent literally hours here. The lady who helped with our candle experience recommended a restaurant across the street, Cranes in the City, and even described the sandwich we should order — she was dead on! Highly recommend visiting this shop!

Really neat little art and gift store! They had a wonderful assortment of unique gifts, clothing items, cards, and of course, all the yummy smells from the candles in their Candle-Ology«bar» area. The Candle-Ology bar is actually the reason we came in. You start by finding some of the scents that speak to you by smelling the over 100 different scents they have available. They have everything from shaving cream and bacon(for a man-musk smell) to Cotton Candy and Marshmallows smells. Then you work with a smell-ologist(I just made that title up for them) to help you choose 2 – 4 smells that work together for your candle. I was surprised how much of an art it was to balance the smells! There were smells I thought would work well only to find out they smelled like a mess when put together. My smell-ologist helped me make a Ginger-Ale, Peach, Champagne candle with a touch of Yuzo in it for sweetness. They use soy wax so it burned nicely. My new candle is glowing next to me as I write this and it smells invigorating and crisp!

This has long been on my lists of musts when I am in Holland. I have stopped in many times over the years and always enjoy browsing the store and gallery. The people working there are always friendly and welcoming. I have gotten everything from greeting cards to throw pillows to cutting boards. During my last visit over the weekend I was very tempted by a really great orange lamp and some beautiful carved wood panels.

One of the best stores downtown Holland! The owner is almost always working and she is as pleasant as can be — make sure to say hello to her and check out her amazing work! This little shop has something for everyone! They have both great functional pieces — like fabulous vases, bowls, etc — and then they also have wonderful works of art for your walls! They have great gift ideas — our Christmas Tree is almost always full of a few pieces from Moynihan for our family and friends. Every time we visit the area to see our parents, we swing by Moynihan! It’s a must see! Enjoy!

There’s always so many neat things to look at in this store, so if you like window shopping it’s enticing to go inside. There are pieces of art that serves a purpose, and I like the duality of it. The ladies are very nice that work here, and I just like to walk around and look to kill time. It’s one of those places that you see something you like and think this would be a great future gift idea. It’s pretty pricey, but I guess that comes with art and unique items. I have my eyes on this dish set, but we’ll see if the price comes down.
