Shanty’s Bar & Grill

So glad I didn’t go by the reviews on here. As with any establishment, you have to consider where you are and this is a smokey, dive bar. If it isn’t your type of place, then don’t come here & give it a bad review. So if you are «with it» enough to rate it for the type of bar it is, it’s awesome here. The staff is GREAT! You will be welcomed with open arms as soon as you walk in. Is it smokey? Yes! Is it a little run down? Yes! Is the food typical re-​fried bar food? Yes! Deal with it and enjoy the positive aspects (great staff, hometown bar feel, average priced drinks) or go somewhere else. This is not a «kid’s restaurant», it’s a bar. My biker husband and I look forward to becoming regulars here.

This place is right around the corner from my house. I always would ride by and see tons of cars. It looks cute from the outside. I figured it was like a beach bar and grill for the family. NO WAY! We walk in and the bar is right there. The waitress took us around a corner to sit in the backroom. It was gross. We walked through tons of smoke. I didn’t know you could still smoke in a restaurant. There storage room is the back room so we were surrounded by junk. It was so old like in there. very dark and wood paneling on the walls. The food tasted like something out of a carnival trailer and tasted like smoke. I will never go back. Its a shame because the outside looks great but go inside and its just an old 70s bar. GROSS

I have been here quite a few times… primarily for the live music — which is usually good.
The owners/​managers are very nice and accommodating. Drink prices are about average. Food is pub fare. I’ve had the blackened chicken wings, bacon cheeseburger and some kind of chicken ranch sandwich. All very good. Not greasy (huge plus). No complaints there at all.
Since I am often a designated driver, the manager has been generous with not charging me for soda refills. Kudos! Again, I’m very impressed with the owner/​managers.
Why the three stars? Ok. The smoke. I know it’s a bar and I expect some level of smoke but it is overwhelming. I’m a non-​smoker but in many other places it seems to be more tolerable. Maybe the problem is the low ceilings? Invest in a smoke eater? Also… it’s always hot in there (unless it’s mid-​January) even when there isn’t a huge crowd. Between the smoke and the oppressive heat ²⁄₃ of the year it makes it rather uncomfortable. When it’s blazing hot, I want to go somewhere with ice cold air. Or at least cool air. But thats me. I don’t lije the heat. Another minor peeve is that some (not all) of the bartenders have a distinct preference for the regulars. I’ve stood — money in hand — waiting while the regulars were all taken care of first (even though I’d been waiting longer). But I guess that is the same most anywhere. Since I know a couple regulars I just have them order for me. Lol.
It is a fun place with good pub food and reasonable drink prices. And great entertainment.
