This little market is actually a diamond hidden in Holden! The prices are reasonable, meats are fresh with good cuts and you can even get lunch while there. Either sandwiches from their deli or Amatto’s and Dunkin Donuts share the space. Gas up while you are there, it’s always cheaper than Ellsworth, and the staff is pretty friendly.

This place has been renovated in the past few years and is incredible compared to the old place. I’ve been coming to this part of Maine for 30 years and my family has always come to «the store» for things but now it has everything. I can get dunks, amatos, all my grocery needs, beer and liqueur. It really has all you need if you live near one of the lakes and is a convenient stop if you’re traveling on Rt 1 from bar harbor before hitting other less equipped gas stations down the road before jumping on 395.

Over-size convenience store. They want to be a local grocery but run their weekly specials Monday through Sunday; run out by the weekend and don’t give rainchecks when you’re standing right there and asking staff about it. As a single working parent I need to do my shopping on the weekend and it would be great to shop here but I go into Brewer where I know they’ll have what they advertise and on the occasions they don’t they want my business and offer rainchecks.

In the past this place would be a solid 2 star review. The combination of hunting goods, booze, tools and food really is weird. They’ve renovated the place and it’s clean. Even the bathroom is clean. We’ll see how long that lasts. Inside is a Dunkin’ Donuts, an Amato’s, and lots of booze. We stop here on our return trips to Mass for Amato’s. The customer service is pretty awful. It’s at a Maine pace, which means it takes twice as long for you to get a sandwich as it does anywhere else. The kids who work here seem really nice but just aren’t accustomed to strangers. Which is funny since you see loads of tourists coming through here every summer. I always get their classic Italian sandwich which is really just a ham and cheese drizzled with olive oil and vinegar. Even so it’s good. However, the calzone we got was AMAZINGLY good. Loads of toasty cheese, chicken and spinach in a toasted shell, so good. The Dunkin’s was slow but friendly. You pay for the Amato’s stuff at the regular register. They give you a ticket and you go to the register to pay. You can pay for the dunks at dunks. The customer service at the register is pretty good. It’s just the Amato’s service that is lacking. The whole set up is weird and yet I stop here almost every time I’m in Maine.
