I’ve lived in Hoboken for 4 years, and occasionally go into this shop on the weekends. They carry expensive, but nice shoes, and it has always been a fine, fun experience. Last night, however, I needed to inquire about snow boots I had purchased last winter. I knew it had been a long time, but they were very expensive boots and were now leaking the first time I wore them this winter season. The sales lady, whom I’ve never encountered before, promptly reminded me their return policy is 7 days. I let her know I understood this, but was wondering what I could do with really nice boots I purchased at her store that are supposedly leak-free. She was quite rude, accused me of lying(because I could not remember if I had purchased them in Jan or Feb) and reported that her same brand boots were wonderful and don’t leak– good for her! I wish mine didn’t, but they do and I wanted some help. Customer service goes a long way, and some people at this store simply don’t have it. Taking some time to look into the brand’s return policy may have helped, and offering to print a record of my purchase. Instead she copped an attitude and recommended I check the brand’s website. They’ve lost my business. If you go to this store you will certainly find nice shoes, but beware of the return policy and customer service!

I like this place it. Its a pretty small place but has a good variety of everyday shoes. I wouldn’t come here if I was looking for a very specific pair of heels, but its great for everyday, «work shoes», etc. The service here can be EXTREMELY slow depending who helps you. And I mean EXTREMELY. This last time I was there I didn’t know what to do with myself while I waited for the woman to bring me 2 pairs of shoes. The other woman working there saw I was annoyed and said«Sorry we have a lot of shoes»…so does Macy’s but I’ve never waited this long for shoes to come out. Other than that, it has a good selection on shoes and SOME very helpful sales associates.

Living in town, I love supporting local businesses, but Via Mode makes it tough because of their service and attitude. First, they don’t allow you to try on the display shoes, which means you have to wait for someone to help you. Its a small store — but normally a busy store, so you have to wait… and wait. They don’t allow returns after 7 days. My friend bought a pair there — expensive as all of their shoes are — and the heel literally broke the first time she wore them. This was about 9 days after her purchase — and you guessed it, they would not refund her money. During my last trip to Via Mode, I asked to see 3 pairs of final sale shoes that were all marked ‘last pair’. The sales girl came back with one pair and said that she’d didn’t have the other two — and then immediately put them back on display. When I asked her why she would put the shoes back on display since they apparently had no mate, she just smiled. I can only imagine she didn’t want to search anymore for the matching pairs so just told me they didn’t exist. Anyway, I did have success with the 3rd pair and then I noticed that the box they came out in was marked $ 30, one shoe was marked $ 52 and the other was marked $ 50. When I asked what the price was, I was told it was the lowest of what was marked on the shoes($ 50) and not the $ 30 on the box because the box was for a different pair of shoes(same brand). They didn’t look anything up in their computer — just said it has to be $ 50 and while I did buy them, I honestly didn’t trust that they weren’t just trying to get an extra $ 20 out of me. As I said, they don’t make you want to support them. That being said, they have a great selection of shoes, which is why on occasion, I will shop their in spite of their attitude and policies!

I am in love with Via Mode. This store is really cute and conveniently located on Washington Street in Hoboken. The store is not that big, and there is a play area in the back for little kids. There is also a small selection of men’s shoes in the front. Prices can be a little high for the regular price shoes, like anywhere from $ 50-$ 300 depending on the brand. They have a wide variety brands, like Nine West, Bruno Valenti, Ugg, Italian Shoemakers, Bandolino, etc. However, there is a small«Sale» section in the back, up to 75% off for shoes, and I find a lot of cool stuff there. There is also a lot of marked down shoes scattered around the store, and you can’t tell that they’re on sale until you look at the price tags! The good thing about the store is that they mark on the price tag what SIZES are available in the back, so you don’t need to waste your time asking the sale associate for a size that they don’t have in stock. Sales associates are always really friendly, and they offer to do free adjustments to the shoes(like expanding the heel) if there is something that doesn’t fit right with the shoe. For example, I went yesterday and found an interesting pair of Vince Camutos for only $ 35(!) but one of the heels was pinching me, so she sent off the pair to have it repaired for free. I love this place.
