9th St Hudson Bergen Light Rail Station

My review for this station will be somewhat similar to my review for the Pavonia/​Newport station. It’s outside and cold (especially in January). There’s a wind tunnel quality to the station which is annoying. At least the trains are usually on time for my commute…

The elevators are always weird at this station. They don’t run past 2am and sometimes the doors won’t open. So, you could possibly be riding elevators aimlessly. Someone needs to check them regularly.
The light rail is a smooth and easy ride during rush hours during the week but if you are commuting from the city and stay to have a visit with a friend after work you’re better off getting an über or take the bus especially in the winter months. After certain hours it slows to 30 minute intervals between rails. Believe me! The winter months are BRUTAL!
Sometimes they shorten the light rail to Tonnelle to two cars and it can get really crowded in the evening. I saw a 5 car train to Hoboken from Newport pass and only a couple of people got on while the Tonnelle was 2 cars and around 50 people squeezed in.
Weekends on this rail are not very easy. Expect to leave ³⁰⁄₄₅ minutes before you initially thought you may need to. It is sometimes easier to walk to your destination then to pay the fare and wait forever.
Get the Embark NJ app on your smart phone. You’ll need it.

This is a convenient station to get to hoboken, the mall, there are also a couple of transfer points along the way to the PATH to take you to NYC. I use this a lot especially when I know I will be out drinking. Also, this train is completely free with a NJTransit monthly bus or train pass which is great as a roundtrip ticket can run you $ 5.
This station also connects me to hoboken from Jersey City congress st via elevator, so you can get to middle of hoboken rather effortlessly.
One thing to remember is that elevators shut down at 2am and yes it happened to me before, it wasn’t cool as I had to shlep home while looking for a cab at 2am.

This is the closest light rail stop near my place. There are apartments that face the station which seems odd — who would want to live there! Can you say no privacy?!
The station main access to the platform is by elevator. The stairs are only open when there are mechanical issues. Elevators often are cramped.
