I had a day off and decided to stop in this upscale resale shop after having heard this was where all the Hinsdale people dropped off their cast offs. The front door was open and I found the entrance was blocked by a dresser. There were 2 young men standing around and one came over and moved it to allow me to enter. Cool! Thanks… oh wait I spoke to soon. I started looking around the store and a woman barks at me– We’re not open, can’t you tell we’re not open? You need to leave. Well actually no– I can’t tell that you are not open. There are people milling about and you have the front door open. So I say– No I’ve never been here, I don’t know how I would realize. To which she rattled off their hours and the days they were open. Yes ma’am! Lesson learned!

Wander down a small alley in downtown Hinsdale and you will come upon a gem of a store filled with treasures that will delight. The Courtyard is a consignment store where you can find amazing things that the«ladies of Hinsdale» no longer have any use for but are beautiful and priced well below what they would have been new. And the best thing? Proceeds go to the Wellness House which is a charity that helps people cope with cancer. Vintage purses, furniture, jewelery, rugs, crystal and silver– this store is full of things at great prices. And you can be sure that the merchandise is of the highest quality as the group that started the Courtyard share a love of interior design as well as a willingness to help. While there are mostly home furnishings here– I did get a vintage purse the last time I visited. And since new things are coming in each day– the selection is always changing. If you are re-doing a room and need a piece of high quality furniture for a fraction of the price, or looking for a unique gift– check out the Courtyard. While a bit difficult to find– once you do– it will be high on your list to get something for yourself while helping others.
