At the time of writing this review, I have experience with two bike rental shops on Hilton Head Island: this shop(Sea Pines Bicycle Rentals) and the Peddling Pelican nearby down Lighthouse Road. One day, when this shop was all out of bikes, the folks here actually referred us to the Peddling Pelican. Since this is the official bike rental shop of the Sea Pines Resort, it is well staffed and the service is top notch. We’ve rented bikes from this shop multiple times over the years and have never had any problems. I do have a few critiques, however: 1. The rate sign posted inside the store says discounted rates are available to registered guests of the Sea Pines Resort, but it says nothing about discounts for property owners. Discounts are in fact available for Sea Pines property owners so the sign should include this information. To the shop’s credit, the rate card does include this information, but most customers who walk into the store are primarily going to look at the sign behind the counter. 2. The seats on the bikes should be softer. My crotch was noticeably sorer riding on Sea Pines bikes compared to other bikes. 3. Baskets should be complimentary. The Peddling Pelican doesn’t charge for baskets. Criticisms aside, this is a solid bicycle shop. I’ve found the quality of the bikes here to be very good. The bikes are fixed-gear bikes where you pedal backwards to brake. There is a nice selection of bikes to choose from. There are bikes for children and adults of various sizes, bikes with a «step-through» frame for elderly people, as well as trailing bikes, carts, and child seats. This shop is popular and reservations are recommended. Business hours vary depending on season. The shop is open for longer hours during the spring and summer. Rates vary depending on how long you rent the bikes. The longer you rent the bikes, the more money you save. Bikes can be rented up to a monthly basis. Here’s a pricing example for one bike: 4 hours — $ 15 24 hours — $ 22 3 days — $ 29 1 week — $ 38 10 days– $ 60 2 weeks — $ 68 1 month — $ 99 You are allowed to take the bikes on the beach. The beaches at Hilton Head have hard-packed sand, making it conducive for biking. There are free maps inside the shop of the resort. Not only do the maps show all of the roads and communities within Sea Pines, but all the bike(«leisure») trails as well. The maps also contain rules and helpful mileage information to main points of interest. Bike locks with four-digit combinations come with the rentals so you can securely lock your bikes up around the island including back at the shop when you return the bikes. When locking up your bikes, remember to loop around the frame of the bikes and not just the wheels. Service is friendly, competent, and speedy. These folks will have you(and your properly adjusted bikes) on your way in no time. Bicycling, particularly within the Sea Pines Resort, is one of my favorite activities to do on Hilton Head Island. I loved it as a kid and still enjoy it today as an adult. It’s a fun family activity and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the island.

Huge bummer. Bike was delivered to the wrong condo and then i got lots of attitude about where it was. Bike looked like one of those ratty delivery bikes. Taped and ripped handlebars. Avoid — there are so many good rental places on the island.
