What a beautiful place to bring the family. So much to learn an so much to see. Most defiantly bring your kiddos here.

Stunning place in Hilton Head. We spent an hour and a half there with our 5 yr old. It was very hot but the indoor museum is a good respite. There are great things to keep children entertained for a while. The natural spaces are stunning. Definitely worth taking a break from the beach/pool to take a stroll in this place.

This was well worth it. We walked the nature trail, and even though it was cold and windy we had a great time. I loved being able to walk out on a boardwalk into the salt marsh. The gallery in the main house with painting by local artists was nice too. The displays were very good and informative about the local history and wildlife.

Enjoyed our visit and learns a lot about the area and its history. Great way to give kids and adults more context and respect for the island. Loved talking to Michael who was weaving beautiful baskets on the grounds. The little docks onto the marsh are very cool— look closely to see snails, tiny crabs, and other creatures on the marsh.

This is a great museum for kids with a history lesson. There’s a little bit of everything, art museum, interactive kid zone, wet marsh where hundreds of little crabs were crawling around, butterfly zone, animal area with baby alligators, turtles, snakes, and chickens. This location is beautiful with mature trees and even has a horse ranch. Great place to start off a Hilton head trip.

Pleasant enough to walk around the grounds and read the signs for free. The blue crab tour was oversold, not particularly educational if you know anything about crab, and only lasted a little over an hour. Not worth the money. We would have held an alligator, but that would have been an additional 25 bucks for our family.

On Tuesdays they run a shrimp boat out of a nearby dock. Need to make a reservation so call ahead. Capt John, wife Marley and mate Kasey. Didn’t catch as much shrimp on the afternoon trip(approx 3 lbs) but each family took home almost 3 lbs on the morning trip that same day. Hit or miss. We didn’t care. Beautiful scenery. Marley spoke the whole time teaching about the various sea-life we eventually saw when the net came up. Small sharks, rays, crabs, various fish. Kids got to hold a lot of what was caught and helped separate the shrimp and then helped clean them. Great time. Didn’t get to the actuial museum so we will put that on our list for next time. Have fun. And eat at Hudson’s which is where the boat leaves from. Good food.

A visit to the Coastal Discovery Museum is a great way to take in some of the local nature while relaxing at the same time. Even though we were not able to take advantage of any of the special programs or guided tours, our kids(age 2 and 5) loved spotting critters, learning tidbits about environmental science, and the sheer freedom of moving about in such an open and welcoming space. The museum has several small boardwalks that take you out into the marshes with information on various environmental topics along the way. It’s very easy to spend 2 hours here. Plus it’s free(donations accepted). Don’t leave Hilton Head without stopping here first.
