On my recent vacation to visit family, i needed a few parts to fix up my nephews bike and one I borrowed from a cousin to use while here. Stopped by Mid-Pac and was floored by how over-priced the items were. I went to a shop around the corner and it was half the price. –Auwe!

I visited with the owner and he was very helpful in providing local info for cycling — that’s why the 3 stars. I bought a chain cleaner from him for $ 47. It seemed high, but I try to support local bike shops. Afterwards I found the same chain cleaner on Amazon for $ 26. Next time — I’m buying online.

Overpriced. Lack of selection. $ 40 for a SRAM chain that has an MRSP on $ 26. But it’s Hawaii I guess… and Hilo is woefully under-represented in the good local bike shop department. Try eBay or Amazon for anything you don’t need TODAY… you’ll save 50% at least over this place.

My wife and I stayed in Hilo for a few days and wanted to rent bikes. So glad we came to Mid Pacific. They treated us with Aloha from the time we called and made arraignments. They supplied us with brand new bikes, gave us helmets, locks and a flat kit at no extra charge. Bikes ran great and the staff was helpful. Good deal all around. Thanks guys. We had a great visit and you were a big help.

The bike side may be ok but the scooter side is a rip off. I bought a brand new scooter from them and paid cash and had nothing but trouble and lies to try and get the scooter to run. Frank, the son of the man who owns the bike shop, is rude and disrespectful and a bit of a scammer.

I was in Hilo for a couple of days to visit relatives and was looking to keep active during my stay. I was a bit skeptical of this place due to the one bad review on Unilocal. My experience was completely hassle free and the guy that helped me(Frank, I believe was his name) was extremely informative and helpful. If $ 25 dollars for a 24 hour rental(which included helmet and lock) is considered $$$$ expensive, I don’t know what to tell you(don’t vacation in Hawaii?). Friendly service, reasonable price, fast and easy… what more could you ask for. I feel like I should mention: if you’re a complete newbie to biking around Hilo and don’t know the area, do some research before just hitting the road! Some areas have extremely narrow bike lanes or none at all. That being said, there are some gorgeous rides to be made in/around the area. Renting from Mid Pacific Wheels was one of the best decisions I made during my short stay in Hilo.

I had EXCEPTIONAL service and a great bike for my rental period. I reserved it on Sunday and I picked it up on Monday. They provided me with patch kits, a lock and a helmet as well as recommended routes to take for my intended rides(to Akaka Falls, etc). My work had me traveling off island each evening. One day when I was not sure I would be returning again to Hilo *at all* due to a work schedule change, the folks at Mid-Pac Wheels even offered to get the bike where I had left it. I did get back to Hilo, but then could only return it several hours late. Unlike the other reviewer’s experience, they did NOT charge me an extra day. They simply could not have been more friendly and easy to rent from. There is a $ 300 deposit, but that is entirely reasonable considering someone may just take or destroy an expensive piece of nice rental equipment. They are quality bikes. If you don’t hurt the equipment, you get it all back so it’s not a big deal. I got my full deposit back. I will go there again and I recommend Mid-Pacific Wheels if you need bike equipment while you’re in Hilo.

This establishment was clean, had really friendly staff and seemed fully stocked and competent. Myself and a couple coworkers/friends stopped here to rent bicycles for a day and we were accommodated with bike locks, spare tubes, patches and a hand pump(included). Everything went well except in that we were a couple hours late in returning the bikes and were forced to pay for an extra day! That was an outrage as, even if you were to rent a car and return it a couple hours late, you’d only get charged for a half day. They didn’t even have anyone to rent the bikes until the next day, so they weren’t under any pressure to turn the bikes around. The fact that the bikes were $ 25 per day, plus tax and a $ 300 deposit was also grotesque. They’re friendly, clean and excellent otherwise, but too overpriced! The services they offered were very overpriced too. Save some dollars and go to a competitor.
