I came in here and filled out an application for them to find me an apartment and paid 10 bucks for it. Never heard from them. Found a place on CL. Do not give them your business they are not professionals.

What kind of a rentals/property management company is this? I was made to pay an application fee, then told I qualified for an astoundingly high rental limit. Then I had trouble getting them to schedule a day to show places. Then, when I finally did manage to schedule some showings, an office secretary showed up at the first property and told me she wasn’t a realtor and couldn’t answer questions about the properties. In fact, she didn’t even know what the properties rented for… didn’t even have fact sheets on the properties. Further amazingly, no one ever followed up… Nothing. Are these professionals? I own condos elsewhere. Who would hire such people? I wouldn’t.

This company is all about TEAMWORK! If one person isn’t there at all times, someone else in the office is always there to try and help you. I will definitely refer Day-Lum Rentals to all of my friends. It is not all about a one gal show. They have a huge inventory of all sorts of rentals, just not the timing right now as the available lists are short.

Our manager is Cyndy Starr, we have been with her on our last three rentals and she is great! Very easy to get a hold of and responds very quickly to our needs! She on top of all the vendors that serve us making sure we are happy. We do want to own our own property but while we are renting and getting our financing in order, it has bee a pleasure working with her for our rental needs.

They are a little disappointing. They had a beautiful home for rent on their website. I contacted them wanting to see it. They had me submit a full report before I could even see it. Once I was ready to see it, I was told several other people wanted to see it also. I went on a group viewing, and of course I didn’t get the place. The other rentals they had were pretty sketchy. They told me they would call me if they found what I was looking for, but no call. Tip: they don’t update their website when a house is rented or in the process, so don’t fall in love with anything. Not sure if it is the same for their home sales, but be aware of the possibility. They were friendly, but I recall when I rented a home through them before, they were a bit weird when it came to returning a deposit. I got the rental in not-so-clean condition(by their standards) and when we moved out, they tried to say they wouldn’t return the deposit because the screens on the windows has dirt on the outside when she ran a white wipe over it, even though they were dirty to begin with! If you rent through them, be prepared for an OCD experience before getting the deposit back.

Day-Lum sucked. The workers here are all worse than the next and nickle and dime the hell out of you. Right after I paid for my application after expressing my interest in a place they decided that the owners didn’t want to rent to me since I wasn’t able to move in as early as they like. Shouldn’t you alert potential renters of this BEFORE you charge them?

I rented a house from Daylum. Cindy Starr managed it. When we moved in we were in the dark for the first night because there were no working light bulbs. Ladders were needed to put many of the bulbs in. When I called Daylum the next day they said it was our problem. We had to go out and buy a ladder to put in lightbulbs ourselves. When we moved out I took the energy efficient bulbs with me. Except for one that a helpful electrician had put in for me in the backyard using an extra long ladder. He had told me that any bulb was OK so I have him an energy efficient one. Well, when we moved out over $ 200 was deducted from our deposit to put in lightbulbs. We were charged $ 50 for the one outside. Quite a while after moving out when the house was again empty we stopped to check on the cat who belonged to the house and noticed that that outdoor light we had been charged $ 50 for had never been changed. There are many rental agencies in Hilo, find an ethical one.

Day-Lum has handled my Hilo rental properties since 1989. In all this time I have NEVER had a bad tenant. Is this a miracle or just REALLY good management? As an Owner I appreciate Day-Lum’s thorough screening of applicants, the on-time payment of rents, the detailed monthly statements, the handling of tradesmen, and the checking in on my tenants to make sure they aren’t smoking or sneaking in pets. My Rental Managers protect my investments better than any other rental agency I retain, period! Day-Lum has been able to optimize my rentals so that I average 30 days vacancy for every 5 years rented… across every property! That is a phenomenal occupancy rate! Even in recessions, we have stayed full with great tenants who leave the premises spotless. Trust Day-Lum to take care of your properties. Protect your investment as it appreciates, one bad tenant can turn your balance sheets upside-down.

I’ve rented from Day Lum for 3 years. If I ever move back to Hilo, I would go with them again. They are first class and I had no issues with them. They were always very attentive to my needs. Also, the property I lived in, City View Apts, were very clean too.
