Bayfront Coffee Kava & Tea Company

We made a special trip to Hilo for kava. I remembered the shop from a previous trip but the location I visited has been replaced by a gelato shop. Bayfront Coffee Kava & Tea Company moved from their location along the water to a spot next door to an antique store downtown. It would be easy to miss except for their small sign, but what a shame as they make great kava drinks. The roots of the kava plant are used to produce a drink with relaxing qualities without disrupting mental clarity.
Kava’s calming effect may relieve anxiety, restlessness, sleeplessness, and stress-​related symptoms such as muscle tension or spasm. Kava may also relieve pain. It’s a great, genuinely Hawaiian (or Polynesian for that matter) experience to enjoy kava. Yes it tastes like dirt!
We sat at the small picnic table outside. Very relaxing to be sitting in the sun enjoying kava. My friend had the rhino, which is supposedly stronger. We purchased a bottle to enjoy at home.
Before you decide to ship some home, Poland is the only EU country with an «outright ban on kava» and where the mere possession of kava is prohibited and may result in a prison sentence. In the United Kingdom it is a criminal offence to sell, supply or import any medicinal product containing kava. So it’s best to enjoy kava and it’s calming effects here in Hilo!

Nice place, well located not far from the farmers market. We just had a coffee and a piece of key lime pie, which was excellent! Almost as good as a Florida key lime pie.
