We have been going to American Hero since it opened. Absolutely love the grilled chicken kabob platter with rice and salad. The chicken is moist and delicious, huge chunks. The rice is the best rice ever! A combo of 2 rices — very delicious! The salad is fresh and made to your specifications. On top of all the great food, the family that owns it are very, very sweet and always welcoming!

They have all the hot food prepared, its not made when you order it, but then they heat it up or regrill it. The deli meats are sliced fresh and fries are fresh. I like it and have always had pretty good food. not great, but good. Also they keep some really good cheesecake on hand… no they dont make it, but its still really good.

I’ve enjoyed their food and I usually call in my order for pick up. When I do call I’m usually a good 10 mins away. Well 2 days ago, I called in my order from their parking lot, and low and behold as I walked in he was wrapping up my Philly cheesesteak!!! Hmmmmmmm

I just called American Hero, and the person I spoke says that they do not deliver at all. Why are they listed as offering delivery?

I have NEVER had a bad experience here. The food is GREAT! Authentic Greek food, owned by Greeks(I’m partial to Greeks, Im one!) The family is really nice and their staff is great too. The food is ready very quickly.

I don’t know where all these fabulous reviews are coming from. I went here last week and figured I would give the chicken kabob a try as that’s a pretty standard benchmark of greek food. First they boiled the already assembled kabob in a tub full of water for the entire day. When you order one, they pull the kabob out of the water and put it on the flatop grill to continue cooking it. By the time you receive it, the chicken is beyond dry and the onions and green peppers are boiled into mushy, bland nothingness. The hummus was swimming in an ocean of oil, but wasn’t bad. However, like another poster stated, there is one piece of pita cut into fourths for a dessert sized plate loaded with hummus. I did notice that every one else who came in there ordered subs rather then greek food, so maybe this is just a better sub joint.

Best Gyro and Gyro platter in the area. They still slice the meat versus frozen slices like most places. Add a tuxedo cake and you won’t be disappointed. Service is terrific and quick.

Went to American Hero Restaurant & Grill recently had a nice lunch of Falafel platter which comprises of Greek salad, grape leaves, pita bread & falafel. Taste great. Also on the menu is hot and cold sandwiches, several other Greek/Mediterranean entrees, salads & soups. The guys behinds the counter are friendly and know how to serve up a great meal. I will be back to try other items on the menu. Food B Staff A Décor D(not much of décor) Location C Health Inspection Grade 97.0

I went here recently with my partner and we thought we would try the place based on the reviews, well, we weren’t exactly impressed. I ordered the steak and cheese and fries, while the steak and cheese was decent, the meat didn’t have much flavor to it and my fries were completely stale. My partner saw that they had some vegetarian options but she wasn’t really impressed either. She had the black bean burger and she said it was just way too spicy than the normal black bean burgers she’s had before, I had to share fries with her as her fries were fresher. She also had the hummus with pita bread, which she thought the hummus didn’t have any flavor and she was given a lot of hummus with only 4 pita bread triangles. As far as customer service goes, the staff was friendly enough but the guy who took my order asked what I wanted on my sub and then when I went to pick it up, he asked multiple times what I wanted on the sandwich. Maybe I went on an off night but we weren’t really impressed.

We lived in Hillsborough for a while before discovering American Hero. I’ve never actually had a hero from this place. Every time I go in, the Greek food looks so good I end up with a gyro plate or veggie plate! It’s our go to place for Greek take out.

I like this place, I feel like it’s a hidden gem. The food is pretty good, they have Greek food, and other foods like Philly cheese steak and hoagies. It’s pretty cheap, too. I think it really get’s a whole star because they staff is so friendly, and you never have to wait very long.

Best philly cheesesteaks we’ve found in nc! The fries are very fresh. I like that you can choose if you want seasoning. The lamb gyros are yummy too. The dessert case is devine! And the guys behind the counter are always friendly and funny. Bonus!

Love this place!!! Don’t let the looks fool you. They offer a wide variety of food!!! You can get everything from a sub to hummus. My favorites are the grilled chicken kabob with rice and salad or the vegetarian platter — stuffed grape leaves, hummus, tabouli, and grilled pita bread. Also, very firendly staff!!!

We were traveling when hunger suddenly hit. I checked Unilocal and saw American Hero. It was awesome. Small dining room, good menu. The falafel was very tasty. A couple of us got the gyro platter and it was way more than I could eat — a heap of salad, half a plate of rice, topped with tender lamb. Served on paper plates with plastic tablecloth, but the food is great.

I love the rice! It has vermicelli in it and lots of flavor. So far I have tried the gyros(on top of rice) and a meatball sub, both of which were very good. I’ve been there a few times and the workers have always been very friendly and good-natured, they like to joke around and they are generous with the servings. The service is definitely a plus.

Don’t let the name fool you — this place serves more than just American food and more than just Heros. American Hero is the classic 70s lunch counter. Everything from the old school menu to the red and white checkered plastic tablecloths screams retro. While you may walk into the place thinking about a sandwich you will see that the selection is quite broad. Yes they have subs that are pretty good but they also have Italian dishes(which I have not ventured to try) and Mediterranean dishes like falafel and gyro which are A-OK. The menu is reasonably priced for lunch($ 6 – 7) and they have a wide range of both bottled and fountain drinks. No alcohol as far as I can tell. They do have a display case of cakes but I’ve never seen anyone eat them and I’m not sure I’m willing to try either.

1. They have bottles of Cherry Coke Zero. 2. They have fantastic sub and non sub options 3. Vegetarians can eat here. This place is good. I wanted a sub, but not the healthy $ 5 subs we hear about, so my coworker and I headed to American Hero. We both ordered subs(I had the special Eggplant Parm Sub) and they were both superb. We also ordered fries(they come with/without seasoning salt) and our food was ready in minutes. They’re a nice restaurant. It’s an «order in line and pay at the end when you receive your food» sort of place. The meats are cut fresh(a HUGEPLUS compared to those $ 5 sub places) and the toppings are generous. Someone behind us ordered a Greek Salad and it looked delightful(and plentiful!). There’s a large array of desserts, fountain beverages, sides and subs — hot & cold. There are gyros, hummus platters, plated meals, and salads. I’m not exactly sure what this place DOESN’T serve. They also had«baklva» as the sign said. I passed, but the dessert fridge was very appealing. They even have an ice cream freezer for those ice pops, cookie sandwich and ice cream cravings. I really like this place and have no idea why I don’t eat here as much as I should. It’s almost as health(I think) as the $ 5 sub, but I think you get more food for a competitive price. My meal — sub, drink & fries was about $ 9. That’s darn good! (ps — I saw a bunch of Fireman, EMTs and Policemen hanging out here. That bodes well, right?)
