Meh. I wouldn’t say it was the worst, but it certainly wasn’t the best. This was our first time so we’re kind of hoping that it was just an off night.

I have to say that I am new to the area and have only dined here once. I went with the typical order of a pu pu platter and house fried rice. They were both very good and I personally liked the crab rangoons, they were cream cheese deliciousness(I am not a fan of the type with the sweet filling)! However, I was taken aback by the fact that they will not allow a fire in the middle of their pu pu platter. I went with my boyfriend sans the kids and I know they would have been extremely bummed out not to have it. The explanation I got was«the owner just does not do it». I am not sure if it is for insurance reasons or what, but it does take away the quintessential experience of Chinese dining. I do look forward to trying the sushi in the future and I personally prefer this place over Ming Du. One more thing that I noticed was that the cocktails are listed as having some brand name liquors in them and not once did I see a non well bottle grabbed of the rack.

I just tried Sampan’s sushi for the first time and had to review it because I am amazed I can get this quality of fish in Hillsboro for a very reasonable price. The presentation was nice for takeout and the cuts of sashimi were thick, fresh, and melt in your mouth tender. I was impressed, I haven’t been to Sampan in over a year after not being impressed with the quality of the takeout food but am excited to try it again under new ownership. I can’t speak on the dining ambience as I haven’t eaten inside, but it’s a great option for local sushi without driving to Manch or Concord.

I got takeout recently and it was just eh. Was not impressed, especially since they used small salad shrimp in the entrée. Really. The pork fried rice was dry and bland. 1 extra star for the eggroll which the filling is not cabbage– it is the ground up celery and pork which is getting harder to find these days.

Sampan has added a sushi bar and it’s great! We went to dinner and had a bunch of rolls, each was fantastic. The spider roll and the double trouble were my favorites, the hot night roll was pretty great too. The sashimi came in huge portions and was very fresh. The food was fantastic and had presentations just as wonderful. Each plate that was set before us was creatively and beautifully presented. Sampan is offering big city sushi in a small town and I for one will be a regular customer.

My review is a little dated so i gave a try again considering all the good reviews and was pleasantly surprised. We used to go to private school here, my brother’s hand is in a painting still framed in the lobby area. This kind of looks like a trailer, on second thought i am almost positive this is a trailer. This will always be a sentimental place for me as i used to go in high school with big 8 – 12 groups of people and our friends waiting on us. Don’t know about the drinks i have never tried but they do have some regulars that would tell me not too bad. The apetizer items are very legit, the dishes i am not as impressed with but they are very good on the apps especially chicken fingers and crabby’s which i think really is what people in this area want anyway. The dishes are still good, sauces are good and what not but sometimes feel like the pieces of meat come off more like scraps especially when they do the buffet and the veggie to meat ratio is a little off to me. Fried rice is great.

Great food, nice people and awesome service. Ask for a table with Som or Liny. Lunch specials are very good and lots of food. You won’t leave hungry. Overall, the menu has good variety. By far the best Chinese restaurant for miles around.

Had the all you can eat buffet as it was our first visit. Was well worth the cost as the food was very good. Will eat there again!

A good sit-down Chinese restaurant, especially considering the small town it is located in.

I love Sampan. Probably the best Chinese restaurant in the area. Worth the drive from Peterborough. Their Sesame Chicken is tender and full of flavor, by far our favorite dish.

Excellent chinese food. Check out their specialty menu towards the back, there’s lots of great stuff on there. Pretty big portions and reasonable prices.

By far my favorite Chinese restaurant! My go-to dish is Szechwan Chicken with Crab Rangoon and Chicken Fingers, although I have loved everything else I have tried. And I have tried a lot, as I grew up in Hillsboro. Having traveled throughout the country and Europe, and currently living in the DC area I have tried many chinese places and this is still my favorite! Delicious and always tastes fresh!

SAMPAN! I moved from NH to Chicago 5 years ago, and on my last trip back to the east coast I needed to stop in. I wanted a scorpion bowl so badly! For some reason I have yet to find a chinese restaurant in Chicago that serves them(apparently I have to go for Dim Sum in actual Chinatown for that), and I was craving one for about a month before. When we were seated I couldn’t find the awesome section of the menu I remembered with all the crazy named drinks and felt a little foolish asking, but finally said to our server«um…do you still do scorpion bowls?» lucky for me they do! We got a scorpion bowl for 2 and it was plenty of booze for my friend and I… and it was only 9 bucks! Holy Crap! That’s all we went for really, so we were happy! I had already had a holiday meal otherwise I would have gotten my solo #7! The food as I remember is delicious, and now they serve some thai dishes as well? Oh Hillsborough, look at you, getting all cultural! Get the scorpion bowl. Really. But if you split more than one, make sure you have a designated driver.

Ah– The Sampan of Hillsboro. Food is good, drinks are stiff. Worth a stop. No bar though.

A friend and I met up at Sampan for dinner last Friday night. The restaurant was pretty crowded, but they seemed to get people seated, fed, and on their way pretty quick. We went with the general tso’s chicken, spicy string beans, and chicken pad thai. I’ve been spoiled with really good Thai food so I’m usually hesitant to try it most places. The pad thai was a bit dry, but did have a nice blend of spices, making it hot, but not overwhelming. It’s the kind of hot that you start to notice after a bit or two. The General’s chicken was good, cooked perfectly, and a nice flavor. The spicy string beans were something I wouldn’t normally try, but my friend swears by them. They were good. Not sure what type of sauce is put on them but they’re worth trying – a new twist on a somewhat boring vegetable. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat at Sampan again, but enjoyed the evening out.
