This Safeway needs such an overhaul! Dirty and old and time for a makeover. I only shop here when i don’t have time to go to another Safeway. I never bother to get produce because the last time I went there were fruit flies everywhere! Some of the meat should have been tossed out awhile ago. but they sell it at a discount and some even had mold! Gross. The positive stars is for the staff. Most our very friendly. but this store is a dive.

I dread going here because I know only 1 or 2 cashier lanes will be open and there will be a long line to get just one or two items. They are starting to carry more organic options which I like, but its still pretty scant. I understand that times were hard and stores had to cut back on help, I just think this particular Safeway cut back too much. Hard to find help when I’m looking for something too.

Recently the produce department has been looking absolutely disgusting! Last week there were apples in full rot stage right out in the open on display. There was more further into the produce department, I think they were pears or apples, I didn’t look long because they were browning and sagging as rotten things do. I have bought so much rotten produce here that I don’t even know why we buy produce at this Safeway anymore. But this past week my husband stopped by and bought two bundles of asparagus. He brought them home and put them right in the fridge. Two days later I open the fridge in the morning and there is a horrendous smell. It was the asparagus, seeping slime and in full rot stage. They reeked. My husband must have bought them right at the cusp of rot. I went into Safeway to request a refund. No receipt, obviously we don’t keep those around, and they refunded me for my purchase. If the story ended here, Safeway would still have 2 or 3 stars. However, the business manager was in no way apologetic about what had occurred. And her attitude made me feel like I was at fault and making her have to do something she did not feel like doing. When I told her that the produce section has been looking really bad lately, she asked me if I informed staff when I noticed the state of the produce. My response was, «Uh, NO! That isn’t my job! That is why you have employed people in the produce department, to keep up with those kinds of issues». I mean did they just fall off the turnip truck and realize produce rots and to check it regularly? She then responds, «Well, we’d really appreciate it if customers take the time to notify us when they see things like that.» As my toddler is grabbing my legs and touching everything on the shelf. Yeah, let me get right to that. Maybe I should also point out when the floors need mopping, or when the meat is close to its expiration date, or when a light bulb has blown. Tell me where to pick up my pay check please. Oh, yeah, right, you already have hired staff who are supposed to do those things, so my services would be considered volunteer work. Long story short: If everyone was doing their jobs I wouldn’t have to take time out of what little I have, when I can actually get to the store, to tell you where you are slacking! Here is how it should have gone: «We sold you rotten produce? Oh my! We deeply apologize for that. I will notify our produce manager of the issue right away! And thank you so much for letting us know this happened to you! Please, allow me to to see what we were selling our asparagus for on the day you purchased so that I can ensure we issue you a full refund for your purchase and here is a $ 5.00 off coupon for the trouble we caused. We appreciate your business and will strive to make improvements in that department.» Oh, only in a perfect world, right? Final note: I will not shop here anymore!!! Never, ever ever. And just for good measure, to remove the temptation, I am selecting a different pharmacy to fill my prescriptions so that I never have any reason to walk in here again.

It is an older safeway, but the people are friendly. I stop by in the morning if i forget to bring my lunch and the lady at the bakery makes me a sandwich and is really nice about it. when i am about to check out, the woman who is always working there always has a smile on her face. It isn’t the newest one in the neighborhood but its not bad either.

Dirty, rude, inadequate produce. First let me say that I love the fact that they employ persons w/disabilities and the boy that helped me in the produce section was sweet and helpful. When my kids and I finally got to the produce section they had 3 rotten Kiwi’s and moldy strawberries. Those were the only two things I needed in that section. Upon checking out the clerk didn’t say anything to us or even ask me if I wanted help out(3 kids and bags of groceries). Safeway is extremely overpriced however, they are suppose to have great service, help out, and FRESHPRODUCE. I was a little disappointed so I called the store manager who was a «know it all» and our conversation led me to believe I was wasting my time. Please understand that I live RIGHTACROSSTHESTREET but I choose to drive to Fred Meyer to shop, which is nowhere near my home.

Why… Oh, Why… do I always forget the previous experiences I’ve had here, and return to this Safeway every couple of months or so? Well, it’s a convenient location when I’m looking for some last minute dinner ingredients… but I think my Safeway days are over. I went here Tuesday looking for some produce, and couldn’t locate any organic section, or much organic at all for that matter. Boxed salad was expensive and kind of sad looking. Went to grab some vegetarian sandwich meat, and found none. Nothing vegetarian at all. Really? The choice for regular chicken was limited to Foster Farms or mystery meat. And, of course, my trip to my Hillsboro Safeway wouldn’t be complete without the parent screaming at their out of control child. Every. Single. Time. I think next time I will finally remember to forgo convenience and opt to go somewhere else for better quality and selection.

This is my choice for grocery shopping. The store is well laid out and selection of items are good. Produce is always and hours of operation are good. No matter what time of day, the check out lines get you out quickly.

Just your typical, run of the mill safeway. Prices are a bit on the expensive side.
