Not one of the places you will come across walking down Main St., but trust me, this one is worth finding. Great ambience, a good wine list, friendly attentive service. My wife and I both had the Bistro Filet, with wild mushrooms and caramelized leeks. Both steaks were cooked perfectly, the leeks, mushrooms, and red wine Demi were the perfect accompaniment. The entire meal was a huge success, and we both quickly decided that we would most certainly return the next time we travel to Highlands, NC.

Craig, Taylor and Danni are the best around. So accommodating and made our family dinner very special. The food was delicious and the wine superb. We will definitely be going back when we are in the highlands for our next vacation. GO!

Like most Highlands restaurants, the food is mediocre and the price is high. The waiter was friendly but brought out the entrees before one of us had finished her salad. The table was small and the extra plate barely fit… it was awkward. We were thirsty because no one offered to take a drink order or refill our water. When we asked for sparkling water, the waiter said that he had to check to see if they carried any. He returned with a 12 oz plastic bottle of San Pellegrino(for 4 people), filled our glasses each ¼ full, and never came back with more. The food was not good. The«crispy» artichoke appetizer special was a mosh of artichoke leaves and goat cheese deep fried and served with toast. The result was gooshy soft lumps of deep fried matter that looked vaguely like jalapeño poppers. «Crispy» didn’t enter into the picture. Tasted like a frozen grocery store item. Yuck. My crab cake entrée was three small cakes about the size of thin slices of a medium tomato. Very little fresh crab flavor, no garnish or side vegetable… disappointing. Hoping for something good we ordered dessert — the Italian lemon-almond cream cake. Essentially two slices of dry, dull pound cake with a translucent layer of lemon goo in the center that tasted like fake lemons. Our entire may could well have come from the freezer section of the local grocery store and it still would have been a disappointment. And… it was Highlands, so it was expensive.

I was recommended this place by one of the new brewmasters working at Satulah just a couple of doors down. I’m really glad we listened to his advice. The food was simple, elegant, and flavorful. My filet was cooked perfectly, and the accompanying potatoes and vegetables complemented the main very well. The PEI mussels and their brussel sprouts(with a sweet vinegrette glaze) were also memorable. It’s not off the main strip in Highland, but this town is tiny– just make the extra two turns. You’ll be glad you did.

It’s definitely recommended for the food. The salads are great. Be patient with the service. Like many places in the mountains, it’s haphazard but always friendly.

WOW! Without a doubt, one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Prices were reasonable. Service was excellent. Wine list is great. If I had to find a negative here, I’d want to see more wines by the glass. Definitely worth the trip. Make sure you try this place while you are in Highlands.

I wanted to absolutely love this place from long time restaurant veterans but didn’t — sorry. My dish(mushroom pasta with a spinach salad starter) was just ‘ok’. The place is nothing to actually tell my friends about. The heavy hand with the EVO(olive oil) on everything wasn’t pleasant but the pretentiousness of no salt or pepper on the table irks me. Yes, I want to be reminded that sodium is bad but with the older clientele of the area don’t make it that obvious. I will try it again but… Maybe not with other better places in the area.

If you are in Highlands you MUST go here. Forget the normal places suggested this place is awesome! Jason is the owner and the chef is nothing short of amazing. Homemade pasta and mushrooms are great. Great NC Trout. Very cozy. Jason and his wife have a true passion for food and it shows. Please don’t miss this place

Excellent service, wine, and food! We came on a rainy Friday night after the first of the year with no reservations and it was packed, thankfully we were able to use a high top in the bar area for eating. They have a great wine list by the bottle and glass; excellent choices at a reasonable price. We started with Calamari which with the assorted peppers in the dish was unique and delicious, our entrees(veal meatloaf and shrimp/lobster linguini were both excellent. The large portion size was pleasantly surprising, and both our wait staff were super, attentive and knowledgable without being overbearing. A new must-eat-there for Highlands!
