Third time’s the charm: The Chocolate Affair was open. It’s a house with several rooms of chocolate. I went a few weeks before Easter. It’s a cute store with delicious chocolate and friendly employees. I certainly recommend. Have you ever had a chocolate covered potato chip? You really should!

Wow. I consider myself to be quite the chocolate snob, reluctantly choking down Hershy’s chocolate when nothing better is available. In my world Swiss Chocolate reigns supreme, followed by German Chocolate that I find at military base commissaries then Godiva or Ethel M’s for US made chocolate. I seriously put these chocolates right up there with Godiva, probably better than Ethel M’s and better than California’s See’s Candy. These are far, far better than the local Dayton, Ohio chocolate that I’ve sampled. I can’t even remember the name of the company, that’s how unimpressed I was. Now THIS chocolate is tempered, it’s rich, full flavored and has a seriously high cocoa content. There is a wide range of chocolates that range from amaretto truffles to tiramisu truffles. She has lots of milk chocolate covered items too, like chocolate covered oreo cookies and potato chips and pretzels and nuts and fruits. If you love chocolate you NEED to check this place out. If you aren’t local you should have some shipped to you! Her presentation is certainly gift worthy. The shop surprised me because it’s also filled with antiques, collectibles and hand made crafts. Everything from adorable children’s dresses and baby clothes to crocheted hats and sewed aprons in a wide variety of fabrics. Need tea towels or ANYTHING tea related? This is where to get it. Seriously, why scour Etsy when you can just walk over to the Chocolate Affair and shop is this beautiful historic home filled with a myriad of delightful things? I am soooo wanting to stay over night, because it’s a bed and breakfast too and apparently the owner showers her guests in all things chocolate. What could be better?

Fabulous handmade chocolates and you can spend the night and raid the chocolate case? When I have six months to live, I’m moving in for the duration! They also have sugar free candies, but the dark chocolate covered coffee beans are to die for. One warning: Don’t eat these when you are starving as you will be a caffiene-fueled blur before you know it. The owner is a sweetheart and certainly knows her business. You can’t go wrong here.

Up front, I haven’t been in the store. I did call them and have a box of chocolates sent to my nonagenarian grandmother for Mother’s Day. The ladies who work there(Jen and Diane) were very helpful and friendly in making it happen. My grandmother also assures me that the chocolates were fantastic. Thanks for helping me with this one.

Great assortment of excelent confections. The candies are very good and very fresh. The one downside is I find it hard to pick chocolates up here for gifts without picking some up for myself. Trust me, it is that easy to end up with nothing but a card when it’s time to hand it over.

You could spend the night in a candy/chocolate shoppe right in the heart of Highland! Too delicious to be true? Nope! When visiting Highland and Aviston, Illinois we passed by The Chocolate Affairs shop while leaving the 9th Street Café. We couldn’t help ourselves from noticing the young owner Jen busy wheeling away carts of fresh chocolate-covered strawberries to the town’s Art Festival. We went inside and were surrounding by tons of little knick-knacks, crafts, souvenirs, and of course, sweets! One of the four rooms is dedicated specifically as the«Candy Room.» Caramel pecan patties, real butter creams, hand dipped caramels and chocolate potato chips, to name a few! I enjoyed the chocolate covered toffee with peanuts. Mmm mmm! They also rent out chocolate fountains for your next event. As for the bed and breakfast… It’s a historic house built in 1914 by Dr. Tibbetts. The house accommodates guests with 3 bedrooms, each having its own private baths and theme(Angel, Quilt and Blue Rooms). Guests also have full use of a parlor, dining room, kitchen and deck. The best part is you can enjoy chocolate chip cookies and refreshments on arrival, chocolate gift baskets in the bedrooms and a sample from the chocolate case overnight! Continental Breakfast is the Chocolate Lovers Special featuring Triple Chocolate Mess Cake and Chocolate Covered Strawberries. What more could a chocolate lover dream of!!! I can’t wait to spend the night here during my next visit!
