Melvin S. Stern, MD

I saw Dr. Stern as a child and now, I take my two kids to see him. I feel like that says it all! He is by far the best pediatrician I have ever met and I always refer him whenever anyone asks for a recommendation.
He answers whenever I call him (in the past, it has been in the middle of the night and on weekends) and does not rush through the visit to make sure all of my concerns are met. His staff will always squeeze you in if there is something important! He also sees my mom when she needs a second option!!!
I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Stern! Go see him!!!

Completely unimpressed with this doctor.
Billing Problems/​Office Staff:
His office took 9 months to bill my insurance company for an office visit, so they rejected the claim. He then tried to get me to pay it (when I had already paid my copay, which I was responsible for). My insurance company would have paid the claim if his office would have submitted within 6 months of the office visit. When I tried to speak to him on the phone, he became nasty and wound up sending it to a collections agency. He later dropped it when he realized we were not going to pay the bill, since it was due to his office staff not submitting it in a timely manner, and no fault of our own.
Professionalism:
Dr. Stern’s office either does not check their voicemail or simply does not return calls. Repeated phone calls to get information about my daughter’s prescription were ignored. He also will not accept test results from other doctors or clinics, and instead tried to make us come to him to repeat tests. More interested in $$$ than patient care.
He also does not dress professionally (shorts, flip flops) and the office is old and cluttered.
Needless to say, we will NOT be back.

There’s a good reason why a 46 year old still sees his pediatrician on occasion, experience can’t be taught in a school and trust can only be earned. True, most of his patients are there for the lollipop, but Dr Stern will always care for you when you need him.

Pediatrdician of the year 2002. Our daughter has seen him for 6 years now. He’s great.
