We think this funky place is great. Tried various tacos, burritos, bowls but we come back to the fried avocado/black bean tacos and the chicken tacos. Fries are great in the burritos(«Cali style») or on their own. Husband loves chips and salsa.

It’s not screaming authentic Mexican to me, but it is tasty and filling and I’ll take that. The first time here I had a few tacos, nothing out of this world different or real exciting about it, just good all around tacos. The beans and rice on the side were good and the portions were filling enough to satiate my starved self, especially for the price, which can’t be beat, even at Taco Bell. On my second trip to Mod/Mex, I ordered the carne rojo, which was delicious. I’ve had better and more authentic Mex food before, in Mexico, but not so much in the greater Detroit area. It’s cheap and yummy, so I have no complaints. The only thing is you got to remember, this place is small, like really tiny with maybe four tables, which are usually filled to capacity. This is strictly a take out place, despite having some tables and seating. The lines can be long at the counter when ordering, but they move pretty quickly. Friendly people work here too. I will be back.

Absolutely in love with this place! Fresh and healthy style. I usually like to make my own nachos and tacos at home, because I can’t stand all the nasty heavy kind you get at most restaurants that just slow you down. This place will be my #1 place for carry out! Thanks for keeping up the quality of ingredients, and making top notch food!

This place is an excellent addition to Milford. We were visiting from California — which is kinda’ Mexican food heaven — so we are rather picky. Food was great! We both had tacos. I had a combo plate with a beef, chicken and a fish taco. My favorite was the fish! Flakey and delicious with a great sauce that reminded me of Rubios in Southern California. The hubby had the carnitas and carne asada. He especially liked the carnitas. The carnitas taco meat was crispy, shredded and flavorful. The owner, Shawn, was pleasant and talkative. He and his wife recently opened the restaurant after moving back to the Milford area where they grew up. Its nice to support the locals! Just know the place is small so if you have a big family, it’s really more of a take out place. But delicious for sure! If we lived here we’d definitely be back.

Just OK. A little overpriced for what you get. The chicken nachos were probably my favorite. Freshly made tortilla chips were yummy. I didn’t care much for the carnitas, but my husband loved the carne asada.

Was hiking in the area at Highland Rec Area. We’re never out here. So, we Unilocal’d restaurants and decided to give this one a shot. The food was excellent. Definitely worth trying. They use fresh ingredients with a unique spin on Mexican/Tex Mex. This isn’t a run of the mill mexican joint.

3 stars only because all I ever order is guacamole and chicken quesadillas– which are FANTASTIC so I recommend. Love their chips and salsa as well. Owner is very nice, hope the place does well!

I’ve been there 3 times now and they always have excellent service and great food. The grill is not behind closed doors so you can see them prepare everything after your order. If you want a fast food experience go somewhere else. They are not slow, but everything is prepared fresh? Going back tonight.

Seems like an unlikely place to find great tacos but that’s exactly what I found. Probably falls more inline with Tex-Mex than authentico but they taste great. I found all the ingredients very fresh and all of the tacos I’ve tried are good. My favorite is the El Pastor with the pork, fresh jalapeños, slaw, and grilled pineapple. Service has been great each time I’ve been. I only wish they were open for lunch all week(only open Friday and Saturday for lunch) and some seating outside to enjoy my tacos al fresco.

Love, love, LOVE this place! We eat at Mod Mex a minimum of once per week. The food is so fresh and flavorful, you cannot go wrong with whatever you order. Highly recommend!

Delicious. No, it’s not«authentic» exactly, but it’s not Chipotle or Qdoba either. I love street tacos, and I’ve had the authentic stuff and I love it. I love this too. It’s their take on the street taco. I’ll take good over authentic any day. In any case, I had the daily special, which was pick 3 tacos plus beans and white rice.($ 10) Al Pastor: This was my favorite. Tender pork, slightly sweet from the pineapple. Bite of fresh jalapenos. Nice. Aguacate: Close second. Fried avocado, black beans, pickled onion and a chipotle cream sauce. Never had this one before. The sauce and pickled onion cut the richness of the avocado nicely. Maybe this was my favorite, upon reflection. Carne Rojo: This was my least favorite, but to be clear I’d order it again in a heartbeat. Steak was tender, sweet red onion and salsa. Really good. The black beans were very good, and they do something to the rice that gives it actual flavor. Salt. I’m not kidding, a little seasoning, along with some cilantro and a squeeze of lime adds some interest and brings out a slightly nutty flavor. Nice touch. Really good food and friendly people. Not sure next time if I want to hit another few tacos or try a burrito.

5 stars from beginning to end. The guy working the counter was very helpful with the menu & ordering. Décor inside is retro modern & good space. The cook served up a delicious Picadillo burrito with amazing seasoned ground beef. If your looking for great tacos I totally recommend the Pollotocino tacos. It didn’t take long to get our orders & we can’t wait to come back.

Really great! They are just getting started so sometimes the wait is long but it is well worth the wait! I LOVE the Gringo taco on the corn tortilla — yummy!

Three reasons to give MOD|MEX your business: 1. GREAT street tacos! I ordered the Carne Asada and they were phenomenal. 2. Service was very friendly. It was my first time there but they treated me like they’ve known me for a long time. Owner was super nice, even asking if I wanted to sub anything on my wife’s chicken tacos after a no pickled onion request. I tend to like local establishments who appreciate their customers and this is one. 3. Food was fresh prepared and fast. I was out the door in 10 minutes. Honestly I’ve waited longer at coffee shops for my drinks so I give them kudos for knowing how to efficiently run a carry out operation. The interior décor is fresh and fun. I mentioned to my wife that if they set up shop in R.O. they’d print money. Selfishly speaking though, I’m really happy they’re in my backyard. I’ll be back many, many times!

While there’s nothing inherently wrong with Mod|Mex, it’s one of those places that you’d enjoy if you never ventured off of Milford Road. If you’ve been to places like Burrito King, La Taquiera, any Mexican restaurant in Mexicantown, Chicago, the State of California, and so on, keep your expectations in check. If, on the other hand, you’re cool with places like Chipotle or Rio Wraps, their burritos will seem quite familiar — albeit, more expensive. Sure, I guess you can make the argument that Mod|Mex makes a vague allusion to using local ingredients(yeah, I buy chicken from Village Butcher, too… so?) but but seems to be all it has going for it. Guacamole was pedestrian at best, though an altogether awful value for what you get. Anyone pining for the days of El Patio down the road will find no solace here.

We have been so disappointed in area restaurants. We just gave up on going out to eat in the area. We were so hesitant to try yet another new spot. Not so with Mod Mex. This is a gem of a restaurant! The interior is done with such a creative flair. The food is outstanding. They are clearly using the freshest ingredients. It’s all made while you wait. We had the pescado taco and the aguacate taco. The fish taco had a lovely citrus slaw in it. The avocado taco was blended beautifully with other fresh ingredients. They both came with some beautifully cooked rice and very simple, but very tasty black beans. The staff is friendly. This business will do very well. It has all of the right ingredients. What an outstanding find ! We can’t wait to go back.

I saw a new place to get street tacos in Milford so I stopped in with my family on our way through. The outside was welcoming and friendly. Inside I found two old friends of mine that co-own the place! We ordered a variety of tacos and nachos and were delightfully satisfied. The food was not cooked until we ordered, very fresh and very authentic! There is a small dining area that would be good for a quick lunch, but we got carry-out. It is likely that I’ll be a regular at this place, friendly and fresh!

Great tacos! Fresh ingredients, excellent variety. I had the aguacate and Carne asada tacos. The fresh chips are an excellent side.
