I got a Groupon for Yelena and I must say, her coloring job was pretty good. I didn’t hate it and it was pretty close to what I asked for. However, she was 15 minutes late to our first appointment. OK, I get it. A lot of places run late. I didn’t like that the woman working at the front said that it’s normal for Yelena to be late and that that’s actually pretty good for her. Not something you tell a potential client. She didn’t apologize for the delay or offer me a drink or anything. Just rude and poor business in my opinion. Once we got going Yelena seemed rushed and was a little rough on my head. Not enough that would make me say anything but I definitely noticed. When I got the chance to style my hair at home the next day I saw that the highlight framing my face was blotchy and she missed pieces so I asked her to fix it. That was no problem. However, on our 2nd appointment she was 30MINUTESLATE. To me that is unacceptable and unprofessional. Again she was rushing through the process. I had communicated to her what I wanted but she was so rushed that she couldn’t hear me correctly and so she was frustrated when I told her again because she wasn’t seeming to understand what I wanted. Finally we got on the same page and then she hit my head twice on the dryer than comes down from the ceiling. I mean it literally hit me in the face. Then when she was shampooing my hair, she was constantly getting water all over my face and pulling my hair to show me she needed me to sit back again. That’s not OK. And of course her next client came in then making her even more rushed and now pushing back the next client inconveniencing her as well. I told her that I had to be at work by a certain time and because she was late I barely made it to work on time. When you book appointments you shouldn’t book them right on top of each other so it causes your clients to be late. There needs to be more consideration there on her part. Her color job I do think looks nice but I believe that your overall experience and the rapport you build is a huge part of customer service and to me that was greatly lacking. Needless to say, I will not be returning.

I’m pretty sure that I just got the best haircut of my life here a couple of days ago! I have long, fine hair, and there’s a lot of it, which can be tricky, but not for Theo — he’s a magician. It’s a bit pricy and not very close to where I live, but it’s worth the price tag and the drive.

Yelena Kholodenko is a fabulous stylist. I have been going to her for 3 years and as she recently relocated to Tryst, so did I! She is professional, personable, and takes great pride in her work. The salon is also very relaxing and aesthetically pleasing. I highly recommend Yelena.

Got a keratin treatment from Theo today and I’m very happy with it! He was sure to find out exactly what I wanted before beginning the treatment and I was impressed with the results. The atmosphere of the salon is very nice and comfortable. Everyone is very friendly there. Theo is great to talk to especially during such a long process. Tryst prices are difficult to beat, and the quality of the treatment is not sacrificed. Not only is this the least expensive keratin-Brazilian price you’ll find, but with the Unilocal coupon you’re saving even more! Will definitely be returning to Tryst.

I love this salon. Great energy and they have a very talented staff of hairdressers and nail tecs. Kathy Drozd gives the best manicure in town. Check it out.

Friendly vibe in this busy salon in Highland Park. While I get my hair cut at another salon, I am at Tryst for facials, manicures and blow-outs. The owner and front desk always greet my enthusiastically so I feel welcomed. And, Edita does the best facials on the north shore! She is sweet, professional and up to date on all the«latest» procedures.

Tryst’s owner, Theo, has been cutting my hair just a handful of times. He’s a very nice guy, fast to listen to your ideas about style, and offer his own if you ask. They offer two prices for men’s hair, $ 35& $ 50(for longer hair/more service). I honestly don’t recall what I’d been charged in past visits(not paying attention), but last cut — I wanted only the briefest trim. I arrived at the shop hair freshly washed and styled as I want it to look, and asked Theo to just trim sides and back a bit. I was in his chair less than ten minutes. I thanked Theo for working on such a brief trim. At the front desk, the receptionist called back to ask Theo the charge. He called out $ 50. I was honestly shocked. If ever there was a $ 35 cut &charge, my trim would have been it. I was about to ask Theo about this, and realized he would, of course, drop the cost to the lesser $ 35 fee. I don’t want to do that every time I have a trim. The politics of «cost» should be something any business owner should be very sensitive to. And Theo, and his salon, would be considered«upscale» Highland park, as far as I’m concerned. Yeah, that one decision, which made me ‘uncomfortable’, finds me returning to my «barber, Roger, across the street at Mane Cutters. For The $ 30 Roger charges, he trims my beard and ears, shoots the breeze, and will cut my hair from now on.
