I have been taking classes there for many years and love the process, the finished pieces, my classmates and my extraordinary teacher. TAC brings great art shows and culture to Highland Park. We are so fortunate to have this resource on the north shore.

I’ve started taking classes here about 6 months ago. If you live in the area and want to delve into some art classes, this is a great place to start. The two instructors I had love what they do, and provide a great environment to learn and grow. I plan to take at least one class a «term» and just practice my craft with others. It’s not an inexpensive proposition, but if you can afford the time and the cost of the courses, I recommend it. They currently have the Vivian Meier Photography exhibit on until mid-July. It is really a «must see». They did a wonderful job setting up the gallery. The exhibit is the caliber of something you would see downtown Chicago. If you live nearby, you need to see it! And afterwards, go to dinner at one of the nice places in HP. :-)

I registered my daughter for one of the kids’ programs for her age, because the description of the class was exactly what I had been looking for in an art class for kids: promoting creativity, not just teaching the drawing techniques. Once my daughter entered the hallway, saw the exhibition, and got into the studio room, she already fell in love with this place. It is a drop-in class I can’t comment on instructions, but from what she completed and her reaction, it is great for her! The one star off is for registration. Agree with the other viewer it wasn’t much smooth: class got cancelled, a cancellation email was claimed to have been sent but never reached my mailbox(not even in filtered mail), while the payment receipt email did. The substitute class we then went was just great. The register staff said the fees were the same when i later found they were not. No response at all to my email regarding this.

I wish there were more reviews of this place. It’s a very busy art center. I started to come here because I was interested in wheel-throwing with clay and am thrilled to find this location. The teacher is excellent, patient and gives great feedback and the art center offers plenty of classes during the week to accomodate schedules. The classes are long enough to give you ample time to finish many a project and to continue to work on projects from week to week. Also, the class size is not too great so you get one on one teaching which I find so helpful.

I’ve been to several exhibitions here. I’ve attended a gala. I’ve been to the art fairs. But there was one particular day that reminded me of why I love this place so much. I remember it was the day they were putting the finishing touches on the recent Beauty Imperfect exhibition. It was the day of the opening. I walked into the exhibit hall and for some reason when I looked around I got choked up and was in awe of its beauty. It was truly miraculous. Some of the sculptures were so minute, yet the details were incredible. This goes down as one of the most memorable exhibitions for me. If you haven’t been to The Art Center you should go. What I love about walking into this place(okay, I know that’s another love) is that the moment I walk through the entrance and end up in the lobby I always get this calm and powerful feeling, kind of like walking into a big church or synagogue. I can’t explain it… perhaps it’s because I live for the arts. But what’s special about this place is the many different rooms and corridors with different types of art from photography to sculpture to textiles, etc. They also show art produced by kids from the local schools which makes it very community in feel. I have yet to take a class here, but they have many unique offerings for all ages that take place in the lower level. Drawing painting, pottery, etc. They also have summer camps for kids. I will keep coming back for the free exhibits and free exhibition openings! They are spectacular!

I love the art center. I love that it is here. I have never encountered the office staff, but did meet a board member once who seemed to think the place was for his own personal self and no one else mattered… didn’t like that much. Also, once my class was cancelled due to a long-known about event at the center that was not on the official schedule. My instructor called me that day to inform me but mentioned I’d be receiving an e-mail from the office that never came. A little disorganized. But the center itself is good and they offer loads of classes. They get good instructors and class lengths are long enough to really get a feel for what you are learning. They also offer quick workshops, etc. I think this is a great place, overall.

Nice facility. Loved my pottery teacher — Debbie!!! I just wish that they offered classes on the weekends for working adults, other than that it is a great place! Check it out!
