The second time I went, she didnt even ask me what I wanted. The hair cut was fine. It was sort of weird though that she didn’t ask me anything. I should have, could have spoke up, but I was tired and taken aback.

Great talent in this salon! Sahar was awesome, she converted a red balyage to a blonde balyage flawlessly! Great hair products as well, diamond oils and AG ultra moist shampoo and conditioner do wonders for my hair!

A classy, professional salon located on main street Highland Park, I love Salon Envy because nearly every stylist has worked with my hair before and done a great job. I have super thick, dry hair that gets colored regularly, so I know it can be a lot to deal with. Every time I come in, I am complimented for wanting to switch things up and they always exceed my expectations with the color, especially! For someone who gets bored easily and is very indecisive about her hair, they always manage to keep me leaving happy and satisfied.
My hair is always cut and styled in a way that sticks to what I know and love about my hair, but they just make it look so much neater and HEALTHIER. My color ranges between dark brown and auburn. The way they color my hair makes it eye-​catching and rich with color no matter what the lighting is. Every time I get my hair done, without fail, I always receive compliments about the style, length, and/​or color. Salon Envy knows what they’re doing even for the most fickle lady, like myself, who has to keep my hair looking styled and attractive on a college graduate budget and in a professional career. Super easy to get scheduled for an appointment and relax during with the atmosphere they create. You guys rock!

I loved how George took the time with me and really got a feel for what I wanted. I loved my hair and cut. Didn’t really enjoy the blow out since I felt the girl who did it was not trained. I literally felt like she was pulling my hair and didn’t want to do it. I didn’t complain since I thought maybe it’s the brush, but when George finished the front part I realized it was not the brush. Love the hair treatments and all the products. Honestly, it was nice but the prices for all of it was not worth it. I get the products are high end, but to me I was not expecting how much I was charged. So for thay I give it 4 stars. Service was great but prices, we’re a turn off. I get quality over quantity, but not worth it.

This one would have gotten a 5 star until I was hit hard with the bill. Unfortunately I had only vaguely known the service prices beforehand… I thought how expensive can a highlight and haircut be at a local Highland Park salon… 100? 150? I was shocked when I was charged $ 185 for highlight and haircut, especially when the latter was literally a few flicks here and there with the recommendation from the stylist not to do anything with my hair.
Haircut itself was $ 55, basically for NOTHING. I argued this and the lady who ran the card just didn’t budge. 55 bucks for what had to be 10 bucks was just daylight robbery! In my state of shock I forgot to «mention Unilocal to get 10% off» so basically I brooded the whole day for what was my «day off at the salon». I will not be going back to this place just because they were so unreasonable on the pricing and didn’t care for their customer.
On the bright side (which was very overpowered by the above fiasco) Nina did an excellent job with the highlights. She recommended a color that was exactly what I wanted — subtle and sophisticated. Thanks Nina… Huh!

I went to the salon and Jordan was my stylist. Jordan colored my roots, then applied a trendy Balayage Hair Process, Cut and Blowout. My hair turned out awesome! Jordan was very professional and worked collaboratively with the salon owner, George and Stylist, Nina. The environment was friendly, professional, peaceful and tranquil as you would expect at any spa. The salon was conveniently located in Highland Park. I fully recommend visiting Salon Envy.

I love the salon, it’s the only place I go to get my hair colored and cut. George is my stylist. He listens and he asks questions, never rushes, and the end result is always beautiful. I’ve tried several salons around Middlesex County and Union County and I find this is the best place, best priced AND they use high-​end products for superior service.

I called on a whim last Saturday and they were able to fit me in a the last minute which I appreciated. I arrived and was informed that my stylist was running about 15 minutes late. I was offered a choice to leave and come back if I didn’t want to wait… or a free deep conditioning treatment. I have waited much more than 15 minutes in a salon before so was very pleasantly surprised at the offer. I took them up on the deep conditioning treatment and it was wonderful! The haircut was good. It’s something different for me so I think I need to give it some time, but I will be back!

I recently got my haircut at Salon Envy by George the owner. I had been letting my layers grow out and decided to go there (my son and his fiancé love Salon Envy). I can’t say enough about the time George spent on my haircut talking about how much he would take off and when the layers would all come together. I have never had such a positive one on one experience before. The salon is beautiful, clean and the staff are all fantastic and friendly. I honestly felt like a million dollars. I recommend Salon Envy to everyone and received many compliments on my haircut. This is a top notch establishment!

I was very lucky to get fit in on a Friday evening for highlights — a 2 hour process for me. I have black hair so getting to blonde isn’t an easy job. My stylist (I forget her name but I will update my review or reply to it when I do remember) did an amazing job. I asked to see some color swatches for the toner and she brought out the exact colors I was looking for and we both agreed on a toner. She read my mind! Also, she worked up two batches of peroxide/​bleach for the different colors in my hair (I did have a previous, not-​so-​good highlight job). She had me under the dryer for a long time — expected, because of my black hair and the dye I already had on my hair, we had to heat up the bleach quite a bit, but she did it slowly over medium heat so that my hair wouldn’t fry off! SOOO AWESOME that she thought of that!!! And, finally, the blonde colors came out superb!!! I was a first time customer so I got a free cut (coupon was on their website!). My cut was good. Prices are high, but expected and worth it for a quality salon and stylist! Final note: like many salons, tips can’t be put on credit cards.

I got my hair cut here for the first time today and I really enjoyed the experience! My stylist, Maya, was really nice. She wasn’t too chatty, which was fine by me, and she gave a great haircut and blew my hair dry very nicely. I printed out a coupon from their website, and went I went in, they also had a sign offering a student discount for new customers. This place is pricy, but you can definitely get a good deal if you’re a new customer. The only downsides were that this salon has no receptionist, so the stylists kept having to walk away from the haircuts to answer the phone, and a random old woman showed up 45 minutes early for her appointment and creepily stared at me the whole time I was getting a haircut.

Nina gave me the best haircut I have had in years! I cancelled an appointment at another salon last minute because they called saying the special I had originally booked for expired, and the stylist I made my appointment with wasn’t working that evening. I called Salon Envy very last minute and the owner squeezed me and and talked me into giving Nina a try despite some negative reviews on here. SO glad I took a chance. I asked her to get rid of the split ends and keep the length and layers, and she did such an amazing job — long layers and a LOT more body than I had before, and my side swept bangs ended right above the corner of my eye and highlight my cheekbones. I’m so impressed and will definitely continue to go there regularly now. She was also sweet and nice to talk to, and the whole atmosphere is laid back and fun.

Nina was very nice but I had asked for a trim and somehow ended up with a sort of mullet. To be fair, I gave it a few days to settle, and it still looks unflattering and dated. Will either need to have a drastic cut to fix it or wait many months for it to grow out.
I’m sharing this so that other folks aren’t similarly misled by the positive reviews.

Love this place! Have had long time phobias about trying and trusting new places to do my hair! Have had several cuts with Noelle who is so sweet. Just got a semi permanent color today and its beautiful. Noelle was both laid back and professional in helping me choose the right color. Great little salon, never busy, and always easy to get an appointment.

So, I went back today for the follow up, color and new haircut… I have the most beautiful, shiny hair, perfect cut on the very first pass. I have a new salon and stylist! Time for a change!

The owner Joy cut my hair. The cut was great and the staff was professional. They however charged me 40 bucks for a haircut and a beard trim. They are over priced but extremely good.

i do not like to write bad reviews and i feel horrible doing so.
but i did choose this salon based on the good reviews on Unilocal,so i must contest.
i recently moved to this area from north jersey and was getting my bangs cut at Whistle in the East Village, where i had an excellent stylist. unfortunately, she was away for a few days and since this was my only day off this week, i had to get my bangs trimmed today.
the staff was nice enough, but my stylist’s skills were amateur. ive had many, many bad bangs cut until i discovered Whistle, so it’s totally my fault for being impatient letting someone else touch my hair.
first she drenched my bangs with water. then made one cut across. a couple little extra snips on one side. pollyanna poufed them up with a rounded brush and a hair dryer, then attempted to flat iron them back down. and Voila! crooked poufy bangs.
i quickly went across the street to the coffee shop bathroom and slapped water on them to flatten them back to normal. totally on a crooked slant, uneven, with lots of long-​ish untrimmed pieces. ive made an appointment at another salon to fix them tomorrow morning since they were booked for the night. im hoping that the stylists at this other salon are more experienced in a seemingly simple task. i cant go into work tomorrow with these bangs. =(

Salon Envy Rocks! I have been getting my haircut there for 6+ years. I used to have very long hair and they always did a great job. When I wanted to get my hair cut short, George (also the owner) made sure it wasnt an impulse and that i was ready for the short hair. I love my new short style and love everything about salon envy. I used to live very close to salon envy in highland park, now i travel about 20 minutes to go there just because they are that good!

So I’ve been doing my hair in Elizabeth, and my usual hairstylist ruined my hair when he bleached it, leaving me with split ends and i couldn’t even run my fingers through it. Never again! I needed to find a new place to get my hair done and fixed as soon as possible.
I decided to try Salon Envy and the service there was awesome. Noelle took good care of my hair. She suggested a deep conditioning for my bad ends and to keep coming back every two weeks for faster results. After a deep conditioning for the first time my hair felt like real hair again! She kindly suggested what not to use on my hair so it can repair faster. Overall, my first time experience at salon envy was a memorable one! It’s definitely my new hair spot!

I must admit, I am pretty high maintenance when it comes to my hair. I won’t let just anyone touch my tresses, so after moving to NJ it wasn’t until my hair had reached a state of emergency that I finally sought out a new salon. Cute, spunky, sophisticated… Salon Envy may be in sleepy Highland Park, but this is not your grandmother’s beauty shop! (Although I’m sure they’d take good care of her, just the same. =P)
I can always get an appointment within a day here, which is ideal for busy procrastinators like yours truly. When my bangs get so long they’re practically not bangs anymore, I can pop in here for a FREE trim! and be looking good as new in just a few minutes. ($ 5 bangs trim for newbies; they’re complimentary for repeat customers.)
And Noël? Queen of scissors, I’d trust you to do pretty much anything with my olé mop. Thanks for keeping me looking good for this past year!
