I first visited here for the sanctuary’s grand reopening this past labor day weekend. I’d never been to the old location, so I can’t say how it compares, but they say it’s exceptionally larger, it also seems to be a bit closer to NYC. I wanted to wait to write a review after I’d gotten a chance to attend on a normal weekend(the grand re-opening was *packed*), but I don’t think I’ll get the chance to go again for a while, so here’s my review. The animals are all wonderful, because of the crowds we had to wait on fairly long lines to see everyone but it was worth it. We got to feed kale to chickens and turkeys. We got to give pigs belly rubs and see how much they acted like dogs when being pet. We also got to see goats act like dogs and«ask» us for pets and attention. My fiancé was even lucky enough to get nuzzled by the very popular baby pig Lexi. They also have ducks, cows and rabbits(though the rabbits weren’t out for the reopening party). Aside from the animals, the reopening was wonderful because of all of the vegan food trucks. I don’t remember the last time I was somewhere where I could eat EVERYTHING. I may have gone overboard with food that day, but it was worth it. If you like animals, you need to visit Woodstock. I also can’t comment on what their tours are like, but at the reopening I didn’t get the impression that they’d be guilt tripping people into going vegan or acting nasty about it(they do have posters with information about factory farms). They seem to be like a place where you can get the opportunity to get to bond with animals you wouldn’t normally get a chance to bond with. After visiting I can’t help but think of goats, pigs and cows and different types of dogs because they act so similarly. I really can’t wait until I get another chance to go back and visit. The only thing I was disappointed with is how expensive it is to take Trailways there, and that they don’t stop right by the sanctuary, you need to take a cab there from the bus stop. Even with taking a cab there, I wish they had some kind of a shuttle service, I’d rather see more of the money I’m spending go to the sanctuary than transportation.
