When I was a kid growing up in Hicksville in the 1970’s the Sweet Shop is where we would go for shakes and ice cream. Now that I am older, and do not live on LI, the Sweet Shop is one of only 3 or 4 places l go out of my way to take my family when visiting my Father(who still lives on LI). We had lunch there today and everything was very good, from the service to the variety of meals we had: Gyro, Grilled Cheese, Pastrami Sandwich, and even an Omelett. My daughter had a Chocolate Malted and we all had ice cream for desert. They have their own parking lot out back, since the meters on Broadway are limited to one hour. Not that you can’t get in and out in under 30 minutes, we watched a bunch of people do just that, but we were planning on sitting and talking a bit as well. We ended up there for close to 2 hours and the staff was attentive the entire time.

Really poor customer service. I stood there and it took a while for the staff to notice. They weren’t busy — the place had 4 customers. Ordered ice cream. Should have left when the stale mop water smell wafted my way. The mint chip ice cream was gritty. I try to go local, but I won’t be back.

My daughter convinced me to take her here for lunch because of the ad in Newsday. Sweet Shop during Easter hits a note with a 12 yr old. When we walked in chocolate bunnies were all over the front counters. The place reminded me of an old 80’s coffee shop that was in desperate need of a makeover. Menues too. Our waitress was very nice and the food arrived shorty after placing our order. The Greek salad my daughter ordered was OK and the grilled Chicken Greek salad wrap I ordered was oversized and very good. The shop seems to be known for its homemade ice cream. We tried the chocolate Mint and Maple Walnut.(60% Butter cream) and it was awesome. How could it not be. The prices were much less expensive than a diner except for the Chocolate. I would recommend this place for take out. The décor was a little depressing. Note: No Credit or Debit cards excepted. *********Cash Only*****

Places like this dont really exist anymore, they take pride in the food they put on the table and they also make daily specials. if you happen to be in Hicksville give them a try…

It Should Be Called The Hicksville Diner , Best Pancakes French Toast, Eggs ect. They Also Have Lunch & Dinner There, Great Service And Prices… Nothing Fancy Just A Good Homemade Meal and the place is spotless… Some Times They Have Homemde Cheese cake :)

Having driven past this gem several years back, I had wanted to go but never got an opportunity to do so until today and a memorable experience it has proven to be. Walking in, it was like walking into a time capsule. The staff was friendly and hard working and the food was good and reasonably priced. The environment was nostalgic. It is not a place you go to for ambiance, but it is a place where«everybody knows your name» and reminiscent of a time when things were far more simple. I will most certainly be returning.

A cute old fashioned soda fountain café on Broadway in Hicksville. A mecca for Easter Candy in March & April when bunnies are everywhere! Inside people sitting in booths and the counter for breakfast & lunch. Along the counter and shelves when you first enter @ Easter time is a line of Easter candy for the holidays. Dark chocolate, milk, white etc. If you are looking to celebrate the season with some yum chocolate rabbits, there are plenty here. The owner takes great pride that his wife went to the top confectionary school in the country and also they won a local award. :) While I know most of the chocolatiers use Peters(a fancy version of Nestle’s) He explained a few nuances of chocolate variations around the Island to me. There are a few variations within the Nestles /Peters brand. Brache or bracha, the medium dark milk, or ultra which is lighter and somewhat sweeter. That likely seems to be the difference between bon bons and the other LI chocolate shops. Interesting facts. He said that some of the German chocolatiers use another Belgian source but it was too sweet for him and he didn’t like it. I rarely will get anything from small unknown chocolate shops that look like they use that low grade«merkins» that people use at home for experimenting with chocolate, lol — it has easy to use, lesser quality ingredients in it. The owner knows the people that operated the former long standing Windishes of Lindenhurst, & Fishers of Amityville. Also knows Hilldebrandt’s of Williston Park, also the Northport Sweet Shop etc. they often know or know of each other! A fun craft they all enjoy.

Looking for a place for a quick dessert walking distance to where we ate, Unilocal pointed us to this place. Walking in, not kidding, the 1st thing we saw was Easter candy & decorations… Easter is now nearly 4 months ago. Caked in dust isn’t the word. Beyond the initial view into the past, and noticing everything else I realized that it may have been there from Easter 1983. Not a thing has been done to update this diner since its heyday. Normally places such as that seem nostalgic may have a certain kind of charm. But this one seemed sad, desolate. We decided to get ice cream to go since all the other ‘sweets’ were covered in dust. Once we got home, not kidding, the ice cream as well tasted like dust. To the garbage it went. As did my view of this place.

Great place to have a casual dinner with your family. The ice cream and chocolates here are PHENOMENAL. Both are homemade and I can never get enough. The people here are very friendly and we always have a great meal when we go to the sweet shop.
