Days Inn & Suites Hickory

Awful night! I only stayed one night but my experience was terrible. The room was dated (as in, hasn’t had anything done to it since 1970’s /​early 80’s?). What must have been a massive spider was apparently in bed with me all night, awoke to fang marks on both ankles and my legs swollen up. No soap provided by hotel, staff said they ran out and nobody had ordered it so was unable to get myself clean in the disgusting moldy broken shower. Really, see photos! No breakfast, was told they packed it up early. A kind member of housekeeping tracked down a bar of soap but that wasn’t until 10:30am and checkout is 11:00am. Well at this point I was desperate and not in the best mood being dirty and without coffee or food so I said they can darn well wait until I am done taking a shower with soap. I was then harassed by housekeeping knocking on my door every 10 minutes or so after 11:00 on the dot, and they even sent the «head of housekeeping» to try and intimidate me out of the room. I told them I would be gone shortly. Left before 12:00pm only to get a nasty call on my cell from the front desk ordering me to leave and reminding me checkout was at 11:00am as if I were some kind of criminal. This place is clearly run by a cheap and uncaring idiot who needs a lesson in how to treat guests with some hospitality. All this for the low price of $ 75! I packed it up and headed over to the Sleep Inn which was the same price and the exact opposite experience.

(Was here on 6−26−15) We have stayed here before and I have to agree with Melanie on a lot of things. The staff is just top shelf here they do the best with what they have, and they go above and beyond. That’s why this place gets a 4 star if it wasn’t for them I wonder if I could give it a 2. Walked into the lobby and it was very nice staff, friendly, greeting us, there was a little confusion with our room being ready but that was because they had just got it done. The room (a smoking) was pretty darn clean the only problem was the microwave was kaput when we went to use it at 1 am so we had to go down to the second floor to use the microwave in the breakfast lounge. Speaking of breakfast it was NO GRAVY AND BISQUITS FOR YOU! (and eggs too) this was because a road crew was staying there and decided to take a lot of food for their lunch plate. From what I heard these guys were pros which left us with not much since I guess the delivery truck wasn’t scheduled that day or later in the day but again let’s get back to the staff. It seems the maintenance guy stopped at the local farmer’s market and picked up a few cantaloupes and cut them up for us! Unbelievable! Yes we had an issue with the hot water around 10am but again that’s because everybody must take showers at that point. It would be nice if they fixed the ice machine on the third floor and put a beverage machine in next to it. Yes the place needs to be fixed up but they had a small crew working in the rooms (painting, fixtures). Tv’s are old but they work, Wi-​Fi worked great and the pool was clean. All in all we had a nice stay and we will be back in August for a few more days so I will give everybody an update but again it gets down to this. This is one of the cheaper Motels in Hickory that was put there when the Airport had commercial flights coming in and now the airport doesn’t have that (as of this review) it’s sort of the forgotten motel but really folks it’s not all that bad and the staff busts their buns to make it that way. We stayed here several nights while in town for an event, and although we had issues with hot water, the management went out of their way to correct the problem. For the price, it was just as expected, with friendly and helpful staff. The building itself needs some updating and maintenance, but that’s beyond staff control.
I would love to see more actual real food for the breakfast buffet, without all the processed fake stuff, but thankfully we brought our own food. It is typical hotel breakfast buffet, so if you like that, you’re in luck. Again, not under staff control.
