I go here often on my lunch break from work. Unfortunately it’s the only place around but sometimes it is better than others. Sometimes it takes forever to get my food with lousy service, and sometimes it’s quick with great service. The food varies too. The fries are never hot though. I’ll keep coming here due to my lack of options in the area, but it’s nothing special. I agree with the other reviews here that it could use a good cleaning. I would recommend the BLT or the chicken salad salad.

I had lunch here on 6.27.15. I was craving a good BLT, and based on Kim S.‘s photo, I thought that Amos Howard’s could deliver. I WASWRONG. The sandwich was heavy on the lettuce and tomato, and there was barely any bacon… the key ingredient. I had fries for my side item. They were okay, but nothing to write home about. The beer? An OHB hefeweizen, with(lately) an obligatory lemon slice hanging off the rim of the glass ala Corona. This beer rates about two stars out of five. Another thing that bothered me was that the place, as Valerie H. so aptly stated, was just plain dirty looking both inside and out. The place looks like it could stand a THOROUGH steam cleaning. OHB has three restaurants now, this one is the original… and it shows. The old circular booths are cool, but they are tired looking. There is a noticeable layer of heavy dust on the air ducts. My male server was borderline creepy, but he provided adequate service. Yes, there is no wait on weekdays and WEEKENDS, but there’s a reason — there is barely anyone here. The food is average and the prices are above what one would expect for the quality received. The bar in the back is dark, depressing, and without character. This restaurant is like the«South of the Border» amusement park on I-95 — old, tired… eye candy and little substance. I have no plans to return any time soon — it’s back to Olde Hickory Tap Room for me.(Come to think of it, OHTR only has a 93.0% sanitation rating.) I guess cleanliness in not high on this group’s priority list.

Bad service and $ 12 for a cheese burger, onion rings and a tea. I didn’t get 1 tea refill. If you’re looking for me you won’t find me here.

They saved the day! Stopped by to watch pre-season football game, and they had the NFL network. Nice selection of beers, had the Black IPA, loved it. The cheese dip appetizer was good. Would come back again when traveling through Hickory.

Like this place. Great home brews and bar food, priced 20% lower and as good or better than the other restaurants only 3 – 4 miles east on hwy 70. And, WITHOUT a 40 minute wait to get a table on a Friday or Saturday night.

Used to be very good until they started taking things off the menu and raising the prices.

Dirty is the first word to describe this restaurant. It’s not just that it’s an old building with dingy looking, old tables and booths. We could see food on the floor under our table, from some other diners, at some other point in the day. Very friendly service is another way to describe this place. Our server was extremely inviting, friendly and helpful. He was very happy to be there, doing what he was doing. Food? Well, it’s okay, in some respects, and in others, well, nothing I plan to return for. My hubby’s burger had a slice of obviously, way over-processed American cheese. The kind that is so latex in quality, I didn’t melt on the burger. The beer-battered onion rings were good. I can see this being a nice alternative to pretzels and peanuts, while you drink your beer. The rest of the food experience was average enough that I won’t hurry back to sit in the dirty enviornment. If I wish to drink beer, I would choose to buy 6 and go home.

Could be great if you came for the beer but the previous review stating it was frozen food was correct. We had chicken wings and black bean egg rolls both were frozen and bland.

LOVE this place! Great big olé’ craft beer list, amazing burgers, and sides. Salads are great. Nothing on the menu has disappointed so far. The dessert is to die for as well. No need for a long review just go here and eat! Sitting in the old wine barrels is pretty cool too!

Found this place a few months ago and I love going here. Have hickory brewery on tap is always a plus. I ordered the ribs and they where just ok but my brother with me had the chicken sandwich with BBQ sauce, bacon and cheese on it and it was great. Fun place to go to.

Went here after a couple recommendations, beer selection was good, not as good as the tap house, but good. Burgers were good, wings were great, and the service was awesome. Our waitress was Timberly, she knew about the beer and made suggestions. She treated us like regulars, on our first visit, joked with us and made the atmosphere great. We will be returning regularly.

The food is not good. Burgers are like a frozen patty from the grocery store. The Wings are nothing to go out of your way for. Decent as far as seating goes, because the barrel seats are kind of cool. It might be a good place to drink beer(but I don’t drink so… idk). Just not a place I’d go back to for a meal.

Not fancy but good food and service. I’m not a beer drinker so it’s not really my kind of place.

I went hear after several people told me how great the food is. I wasn’t a fan, but maybe my hopes were set too high. 75% of the menu was burgers and they were frozen, bland patties. They only had Olde Hickory Beer(which is great) and a few other cans. Not a full bar or wine list. I would recommend the Olde Hickory Tap Room over this place, they have a full bar, a large beer selection(including OHB), and a much larger/same food menu.

You can sit in giant wooden barrels(or if you’re boring at a regular table. or the bar) — need I say more? Very unique and I enjoyed listening to my echoes, I just don’t recommend the experience to anyone who’s claustrophobic, afraid of the dark, or afraid of germs. Amos Howards is a straight up pub, bub. I highly recommend getting beer. And the portobello fingers. And the beer. And the portobello fingers. Fingers, not buttons! So fresh and crispy. Although the other food is edible and they have some tasty artery-clogging sandwiches, I wouldn’t really recommend much else.

I love this place! Where else can you sit inside a huge barrel? The fountain drinks are great, the onion rings, the sandwiches, everything is great!

Average food, good service and a solid beer list. For veg & beer options in Hickory, definitely on my list of places to go.

Update — Arguably the largest bottle selection in the area. Nice draft selection with good guest taps and OHB offerings. Many of the bartenders /servers are very beer savvy and can point you in the right direction if you have questions.

I love coming here if I want to just chill with some friends over a few beers. Usually the place has a relaxed atmosphere and is Cheers-like in that there are a lot of regulars and many folks know each other. They have a good jukebox — especially fun when it can be dominated by you and your group. Definitely check it out.
