First of all, let me applaud you for actually coming across this review. That means you have probably heard of Hessel which is a great little town to spend some time by Lake Huron. My family has been vacationing in Hessel for generations so it has a special place in my heart, but I had not made it up myself for years. Long story short, my dad couldn’t go on the trip with my mom this year so the husband and I decided to sub in. This was my second time staying at Lakeview, but the previous trip was short and 8 years ago — this time I would call it home for an entire week. While the cabin we stayed in was a little dated, the location more than makes up for it. Two of Lakeview’s cabins are on the lake, something that isn’t that available with the competitors. Our two-bedroom one-bath was definitely cozy, but adequate and with a side-deck facing the lake in addition to a front porch — you should be outside anyway. In addition to lots of kitchen equipment available if guests want to cook instead of go out, there is a charcoal grill provided. We took advantage of this to grill up some tasty local brats. The satellite television is lacking, but does provide some choices. The other perk(for us at least) is that Lakeview is dog-friendly. We packed up two of the pooches for the trip which definitely is cheaper than boarding. Just please remember to clean up after them. The motel and cottages are located within walking distance of the main drag of Hessel, so there is easy access to the Marina, the market, the restaurant and the bar(that does pretty much cover the hot spots.) There is a courtyard area, but even better is the beach area with fire pits and dock. I know we spent two nights of our trips setting by the fire pits watching the boats out on the lake. For anyone considering the Labor Day bridgewalk, try and book early since Lakeview, like everywhere else, is packed the night before. We actually have two cabins set for next year since we enjoyed ourselves so much, we are going to drag some more people up to experience it.
