A coworker of mine wanted to get Thai food today for lunch. He suggested we come to this place. I had forgotten this place was here, I haven’t been here in years. I think they did change owners a few times, but don’t quote me on that. It’s sort of in a bad location, its tucked into the corner of a little strip. We arrived a little after 11:30 and there were only a few people. The place was colorful as most Thai places are with big bright colors. They also have a big flat screen TV over the bar area. I’m sort of boring when it comes to Thai food. Both my coworker and I ordered the Shrimp and Chicken Pad Thai it also came with a spring roll. Total was $ 8.95. Not too bad for lunch. Well the spring roll arrives, it was warm, but not hot. The wrapper was still crunchy. I think I finished it in two bites, it was quite tasty. I’ve decided that Thai makes the best spring rolls and Chinese ones are the worse. The Chinese ones just taste like cabbage. This one had flavor and you could taste other flavors inside. Our Pad Thai came. The color was very plain, it didn’t look like there was any sauce on it. I mixed up the peanuts and the sprout and put the lime on. I took one bite and it was super sweet. I’m use to having Pad Thai with a better combination if sweet and sour. The portion size was a little small and the meat was a little skimpy, but it wasn’t bad. I guess overall it was just too sweet for my taste. I’d come back again, but I’d get something different. The wait staff was nice, they were always there to see how we were doing and refilling our water. The waitress thought it was strange I was taking pictures of the food. My coworker said he is a professional food critic and he’s just taking notes. The lady sort of freaked out and started to panic. I told her he was just kidding and he was being silly. She calmed down and all was well.

Thai Towne is in a random shopping center in Herndon. It’s a large, colorful place, with a flatscreen at the bar, and Thai elements to the décor. Ventilation is a bit off at the bar side we sat — could be the entire place, not sure. My lemon grass tofu soup($ 3.75) was SO mellow. Our vegetable spring rolls(included with the meal) were okay. My entrée, a plate of prik khing(with pork) was spiced well(thanks to curry paste), but just average — meat wasn’t the most tender, but it was sauteed with string beans. My friend’s fried rice seemed overcooked, and the rice with my dish was similarly mushy, and pretty off. Service was fast, and food came out pretty fast, but it took us awhile to finish everything since our dishes were lacking, obviously. Thai Towne isn’t as good as other area Thai places, so if you drive a bit, you can lunch better, for sure. Otherwise most folks seem to suffer(or not notice) as this spot is convenient to many office complexes…

I had lunch here today — I came in just after the lunch rush — about 1:30 pm-ish. There were only a few tables of folks eating. I ordered the Spicy Lemongrass soup with chicken, the Papaya salad, and a glass of water with a wedge of lime. The server brought out my glass of water, and the first thing I noticed was a rather distinctive lipstick mark on my glass. So I pointed this out to him — he replaced my glass of water. My soup was brought out first — it was rather ordinary and unexciting — not very flavorful. I’ve had better Lemongrass soup at almost every other Thai place I’ve eaten at. When the Papaya salad was brought out — it more accurately should have been called Carrot salad — the mixture was about 75% shredded carrots with a smattering of shredded Papaya. The taste was good — it just wasn’t «Papaya Salad.» Other folks seem to like this place — I’ll probably give it another chance down the road. For now — 2 stars.

If I recall correctly, Thai Towne used to be called Kun Ya, and it was a lot better. In fact, it was my go-to Thai place. Then they shut it down, and it was replaced by Thai Towne. I’ve tried it a handful of times since then, and been disappointed each time. The pad thai isn’t bad, but the curries are pretty bland, and nothing else I’ve tried on the menu has been memorable one way or the other. Still, the Thai options in Reston/Herndon are pretty slim, so I’ll probably give it another whirl sooner or later. Frankly, I’ve been so down on my Thai options I’ve avoided the cuisine altogether. The service has been very good each time I’ve been and the décor is nice. It’s just not very memorable or special.

Good service, decent food and hodge-podge atmosphere. My waiter seemed to be there practically every time I needed him, so that was good. I felt like I got too little food for the price, but what I did get was good. I asked for extra spice in my green curry and I certainly had lots of sweat eating this dish. Would reccomend but I feel there are better offerings for lunch out there.

Good lunch place not really that busy and has a pretty good menu selection at reasonable prices. Have had some of the chicken dish’s from here they seem to be a little light handed with the heat though. Impressed all around and a solid showing for someone who is a Thai food fanatic.

I did not care for the food here. I ordered a hot curry and it was mild and very salty… or was that MSG! I am quite picky when it comes to Asian cuisine… this place does not cut it for me.

Fantastic Thai food and service. My girlfriend and I love this restaurant. The pad thai is never too sweet, and the staff is very flexible on the level of spiciness. The ambiance is also a nice touch to the restaurant. The restaurant features a nice outside patio that is perfect from Spring to Fall.

I’ve had both lunch and dinner here on numerous occasions and consider it a good staple Thai restaurant. The service is friendly, prompt, and Thai Towne manages to not seem too cramped even with its relatively modest sized dining area. I find the expected dishes on the menu and they’re accommodating on heat and spiciness.

I agree with my boyfriend, food is really awesome at Thai Towne. It’s one of our fav carry out place. Their appetizers, curries and noodles are top notch thai food. They also don’t kid when you ask for spiciness in your food, we often have it so spicy our lips and tummy burn for hours. HAHA
