Ace Hardware

Lived in Hendersonville since 1999 and have only shopped there about 5 times. I would suggest you to do what I usually do and drive to Lowes. I drive 3x as far to go to Lowes because Ace has HIGH PRICES and piss poor consumer affairs policies. They are the exact opposite of Walmart and that’s why Ace continues to be an irrelevant business that has been on the brink of bankruptcy for a long time. That said, these are some reasons I don’t shop there unless I have been in a very big hurry.
In 2002 or 2003 I went there one day and had a coupon to buy one key and get one free. I had them make two different keys as I only needed one of each. They were similar looking keys of the exact same price. Once I was ready to pay they said the keys had to be the exact same. I told the cashier she must be mistaken because the coupon said nothing of the sort and it did not matter because they were the same price. She asked the manager or whatever and he said the same nonsense she said. I took an adamant stance that their policy was not stated anywhere and was ridiculous since the price was the same. I also stated that they already cut the keys. They stood firm, so I let them keep the two keys THEY just cut and took a 100% total loss on and I never went back.
In August 2014 I bought a Harley and needed some lock-​tight for some new additions I was working on and it was getting late so I went to Ace out of desperation. They have such a limited number of choices since they are a puny little store. I bought the closest thing I could find despite it being about twice the cost of what I could have found at Walmart or Lowes. So I broke my boycot to save time. Since then I returned this month. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to Lowes or Home Depot to get things and drive right by Ace to get there.
My last visit is why I am writing this review. I went to buy some chain and wanted 6 ft. I picked a certain kind and the employee could not figure out where the end of the chain was and just pulled out a section and cut away at it. Not sure how much was in-​between the end and the rest of the roll. Not my problem, that was his choice. Since he was having trouble, I told him to just cut 8-​ft because that looked easier. I get home and the links were too small to work for me. I brought it back hoping to get a credit for that amount and buy another section of chain. I doubt this was too unreasonable since an 8-​ft section would be easy to sell or cut down if need be. They were not interested in working with me. I will find a use for the $ 25 chain. But if I could wait over 10-​years to shop there over a stupid $ 1.99 key, you can bet I will never buy anything there again.
My rating is based on their high prices, very limited selection of products, and their lousy consumer policies. The customer is not always right at Ace, and that reason alone is more than enough reason to shop at Lowes or Home Depot. Ace Hardware in Hendersonville, TN? Don’t waste your time.

While I will admit that I enjoy wandering aimlessly in the huge hardware megamarts, there is nothing as nice as being able to walk into my local Ace Hardware, talk to someone who actually knows what the piece of equipment I am holding in my hand is, knows where to find the replacement part and takes me right there.
I had forgotten how helpful my helpful hardware man was until I decided to cut in half and fashion a barn door out of a solid wood door that separated our living room from our kitchen For those of you old enough, think Mr Ed) I needed to McGuyver a way to make the top be able to open without the bottom, but keep the bottom from opening without the top. Not only that, but the hole for the previous handle was positioned a far piece from the top door.
Fortunately, by the time I finished explaining what I was trying to do, the helpful Ace employee had not only figured out my ramblings, but knew what parts I needed and was already talking me through the installation as we walked through the store collecting what I needed.
From store entry to store exit with compete parts and knowledge took less time than it does to walk from plants to hardware in the magemart.
It can be hard to find stuff by yourself in Ace, but the staff in this store are so friendly that you don’t need to.
