Last year my fiancé and I found out we were deploying to Afghanistan with the Army National Guard. At the moment we had full time custody of my two boys(not through court). Their father(my ex-husband), seen them maybe 4 – 6 days out of the month usually and had not assisted with a dollar in nearly 3 years. We sought out Patrick Driscoll as our attorney. The consultation went phenomenal. I gave him $ 1500 cash up front. Immediately I supplied them with all and any information that I could think of.(Exact dates of whom the kids were with, costs and expenses, dates of important events, timeliness and income) I thought there was a clear understanding of our situation with Mr. Driscoll and the team but when they had me proof read the paperwork all the facts were completely wrong. It was poorly written with names, ages and dates completely off. The aid had me red pen it and stated she would correct it and email me the final paperwork. A few weeks passed and my family and I are in SD for our final family vacation before we deploy. We get a call from the aid stating that we have a court the next morning at 0900. They then need me to supply a bulk of last minute info to them. I’m not sure if it’s normal to have such an last minute court date or they failed to inform me right away but it was extremely nerve racking to have to supply all this last minute paperwork with no computer access and being 6 hours away from home. The next morning we were 30 minutes early for our court hearing and Mr. Driscoll was no where to be seen. 0900 am roles around and his aid emails me that he was at a bankruptcy hearing across town. Mr. Driscoll showed up 2 hours late… but it’s not as if he came ready to rock-and-roll, he came and requested a few moments to speak with me before we seen the judge. Once we sat down he acted as if we had never spoken before. He asked me my income and how much time did the kids spend with their dad. He completely forgot that my fiancé was a police officer and started the same conversation that he did when we met for our consultation… at this point I was horrified. Once we went into court, the judge immediately harped on him for filing two different contradicting paperwork. When Mr. Driscoll went to explain he came off extremely figity. We were in the court room no more than 8 minutes. Mr. Driscoll did and said nearly nothing. Unfortunately we paid a lawyer 1500 to not only do nothing, however make us look bad in front of the judge. My kids are my life. Going to court before a deployment was by far the most stressful experience I’ve been through. I really hope that people don’t experience the same negligence and unprofessionalism that Patrick Driscoll and his team displayed. Although it’s not my review to write; another mother that deployed with me went through the same thing with Patrick Driscoll. She met with the aid and had the assumption that she was the lawyer and the one representing her. On the court date she requested that her family be there in her presence(she was already deployed) but Mr. Driscoll declined. He then called her and said that her family couldn’t get partial custody because they were not there in court. When it comes to family, people take it very dearly. I hope that Patrick driscoll and his associates take care of future family’s that come to them in need better than the just check the box attitude that they displayed with us.
