Backstage Costumes

This place has just about anything you could need for party planning or costumes. What I come back for is that wide range of options. And I recently discovered that if they don’t carry something you need, they can order it sometimes with their regular shipments at no extra shipping cost to you. That is incredible. I needed heavy duty body paint in specific colors and they just ordered it and it got here like 3 days later. Awesome. Sure they don’t always have a great mood, but they are super helpful when it comes to ideas and getting what you need.

When we first walked in, we looked at each other and asked ourselves if we went into the right place. This place is hard to find if you’re looking at it from the street. We parked and wondered around, finally found it.
The place has no AC, just a bunch of fans turned up to maximum. Good thing there wasn’t many people in there. We found an entire outfit for the special one of mine. She’s happy and I’m happy, so it was worth it looking for it. They have a lot of things but just not as much as Halloween City.

I’ve been to this place a few times and on some occasions they can be polite and other times they can be rude. But this last time put me over the edge to where I will never go back there and give them any business. I work at a movie theatre where we had to promote The Amazing Spider-​Man 2 movie. I had to jump through hoops to get the approval for one of my employees to dress up as Spider-​Man for the opening weekend. As soon as we got the approval, I called Backstage Costumes/​Balloons and Things to ask how much it costs to rent a costume. They told me flat out $ 35. Nothing more, nothing less. So a couple weeks before the event, I took my employee down there to get him fitted for the Spider-​Man costume. They had 2 different ones that he tried on. We picked the one that fit the best and put it on reserve for the opening weekend. The day before the event, I went down to go purchase the costume I had on reserve, and they wanted $ 79. They tried to say that the other Spider-​Man costume costs $ 35 and the one I picked is $ 79 because it was newer. They never said that there were different prices depending on which costume you get. They just said it costs $ 35 to rent a costume. I was pissed because I was only approved $ 35 from corporate… not $ 79. The girl acted like she didn’t care and I asked to speak with someone above her and she said that «he» was too busy to come talk to me. So I walked out and we had no Spider-​Man for the kids and families for the opening weekend of Amazing Spider-​Man 2 thanks to this business who were misleading on their prices. These people at Backstage Costumes/​Balloons and Things don’t care about making sales or trying to keep customers happy. From now on, I’d rather waste my gas going to Party City in Temecula than to give Backstage Costumes/​Balloons and Things any business.

Backstage Costumes does carry A LOT of costumes, but be prepared to be ignored, treated rudely, and wait in long lines. In my opinion, the reason they’re still in business is because they have a monoploy on costume sales and rental in Hemet, not because they’re a quality business. Shop with caution…

I went in on a sunny July day, looking for «devil horns» for an event I was working. Sure enough they had them! Not only did they have some, they had different ones so I had CHOICES. Where else in Hemet, in July, could I find devil horns?
The gentleman helping me was very kind and helpful. He took out each pair and took the time to help me choose.
Support this little local business and buy here this Halloween!

The review is from a neighbor. The owner of Balloons n Things will not let any of her neighbors park on her property. She has upset so many other neighbors they refuse to shop there. She has run off customers with her sour attitude. She will not accept checks, and has a strict no returns policy. Probably because she doesn’t pay her taxes. She does not play nicely with others and anyone who shops there should be warned of her. She calls you names and the world would be a better place without her or her kind. I advise anybody not to support their business.
