This little hole in the wall was the only sushi place my bf and I would go to while they were here. I’ve tried over 10 different places and no other place in SA matches Hazuki’s quality, consistency, and TASTE of their sushi. To Candy & her family: Please move back! You guys are dearly missed.

I’m from California and do not mind at all when a waiter/tress cannot understand me, but this was very difficult to get an order placed. There was simply zero communication and it was frustrating, which again, I am always patient when it comes to something of that nature. My boyfriend and I were repulsed by the rolls and my tempura was a joke. I am appalled at the 4 and 5 stars. Truly, giving it a 1 star pains me. Go to OSAKA just across the way. Not to mention the fact that 1 roll, rice and an order of tempura took nearly an hour… not exaggerating one bit.

Great sushi! It’s the perfect«Ma & Pa» type sushi place. Every roll my husband and I have ever tried has been delicious :-)

Pretty good sushi, slow service. Don’t go here if you’re in a rush! There was only one guy preparing the sushi and it took almost 30 minutes to get it to the table and we were the first table to get our order in. I can’t imagine how slow it would be if it were busy! Plus, the nigiri is WAY too expensive. 5 bucks for two pieces?! That’s insane. We would normally order a ton of nigiri but didn’t order any because of the insane price. The rolls were pretty good, though. We loved the volcano roll. No alcohol. Boo.

If you’re not going out to impress yourself w/the aesthetic aspects of an eatery, and you want bang for your buck as far as sushi goes, this is a great lunch sushi stop. The rolls are always super fresh, and the lunch prices(which goes to 4pm I believe) are a serious steal. We ventured off the sushi menu to get gyoza once, and realized we needed to stick w/sushi, because that’s their speciality and not the other items. Yes, they don’t have their liquor license, and their kiddo tends to roam around the place, but the quality and yuminess of stuffing 2 grown people w/sushi and leaving without spending more than $ 30 with the tip is almost unheard of.

Went for a birthday lunch. Prices were decent in the big picture of sushi places, and my salmon rocked! Boo no sake, so much for the birthday treat. My mom changed her order to oysters in wild abandon for the occasion and the order was not so great. Fried rice too greasy! Soba, which my 10 y/o son ordered, was too greasy for a hungry little noodle freak to handle. Would like to try more of the maki next time More expensive than other places I have tried. Staff was not friendly enough for my taste. I am still a bit new to sushi and still need guidance, not toe tapping and the impatient eye rolling I got here. This place didn’t live up to the star rating in my opinion. The atmosphere was like a cheap mom and pop place, with a TV blaring in the background, and a small child playing nearby. The salmon was like butter and worth a visit alone.

My sister in law heard about this place on living social and she wanted to go try it out. What a great little find! Like all my fellow Unilocalers said, it’s a hole in the wall sushi joint. I’m a big supporter of hole in the wall/locally owned restaurants so this was right up my alley. We ended up ordering/sharing 5 rolls and they were all delicious. Very fresh and the rice was cooked perfectly. It was also rolled nicely. The five we ordered was: — New York roll(oh my gaw. white tuna. melts in ur mouth like butter(BUDDUH,) — Spicy yellowtail — Orange roll(a cheapie but a goodie) — Fiesta roll(had to have a fried roll and it did not dissapoint) — Hazuki roll(Mango on top. genius.) Service was slow but there was only one chef working and all the tables were taken up so no biggie. Avoid the Ponzu sauce. not so yummo. All in all, great place! I will definately be back!

My husband and I have been going here since they have opened. Very friendly staff. Recently they seem to be understaffed, so there is a bit of a wait for food & service, but they keep your glass full with refills. Decent sushi. Lunch bento boxes are a good deal.

After trying out a couple sushi places in the area, I finally happened upon this spot after re-checking Unilocal for reviews on my last visit home. What a win. My dad and I stopped in for lunch on a weekday and the place was about half empty. Their lunch specials are awesome — cheap prices for tasty food and big portions. I didn’t explore the whole menu because I was starving and I know what I like — but I’ll definitely be back at this place when I am back in San Antonio. They have some groceries and snacks at the front, a sushi bar on the left, and tons of tables all around. It’s a super casual place and great option for lunch or takeout. FYI — the directions off of Unilocal directed me too far north into Helotes. Hazuki is actually right on 1604 in the Gold’s Gym shopping center.

This place reminds me a lot of all the delicious little diners I find when I go to visit my relatives in Taiwan, except of course, it’s Japanese food. It’s kind of smooshed in between a Gold’s Gym and a Treus Salon and Spa, along a mediocre strip mall at best(there’s still a Blockbuster there!), but the inside is wonderfully Asian starting with the little Asian packaged goods snack counter at the front of the store. Really, they had me at the Pocky. It’s definitely not a traditional restaurant for those that might associate sushi with romantic dates, but the food stands on its own here. My katsu fried pork chop was both huge and tasty — just make sure they give you the barbecue sauce. They give you an amazing portion of perfectly sauteed vegetables to go with it. I hate cucumber — HATE it – but even that was softly fried deliciousness. Best of all, they gave me a nice big portion of rice that satisfied my Asian belly. As far as the sushi goes, everything is incredibly fresh, and the portions are generous. The one complaint I might have is that the fish is cut into really thick pieces. Still delicious, just a little strange to have to open my mouth all the way to take a bite. Overall this place is an amazing little find, and they have good lunch specials too! I need to come back here soon.

Let me start off by admitting that I am not a sushi expert. In fact, one problem number two son and I had at this restaurant yesterday, was our lack of knowledge. We did not want the lunch specials. When I asked the server for the regular menu that lists all of their sushis, she told me just to ask for what we want, and she would bring it. We ended up picking a few that we recognized off the lunch menu, but that’s not really what we wanted. When we had finished eating the spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and spider roll that we had first ordered, the server brought us our check. I told her we were not finished, but really needed to see the full menu. This time she said, «Oh, sure. I get it for you.» With that menu in hand, we ordered a tuna roll, a salmon roll, and a naruto roll. The naruto roll turned out to be crab, a couple of different kinds of fish, and avocado wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber instead of rice. We also ordered scallop and eel nigiri style. Those are the pieces on a pile of rice. All of the sushi was good by our standard. As previously stated, we are not experts. We base it on the following: It has to be served really cold. It has to have fish in it.(We do not consider California rolls sushi.) It has to stay together and not fall apart on us. It should be sized so that we can eat the whole piece in one bite. It can not smell like fish. And, finally, it can not be mushy.(For this reason we prefer to pick the ones that leave the avocado out.) I’m sure other people have their own ways of of judging it. I also like the price here. Jared and I usually get out of for about $ 60 after a tip. Don’t panic though. Most people probably pay half of that. It’s just that we sit there for a long time and eat lots of sushi. We don’t get to go there very often, so we make the most of it. We have gone to other places and spent closer to $ 80 for the same thing.

We strolled in last year by accident and have been going back ever since. My 13 month old daughter has been going her entire life! VERY friendly, AWESOME sushi and GREAT lunch specials. Never crowded so I really shouldn’t be posting something here so I can get a table whenever i want.

Ate here last week and loved it. I just wished I had more room in my belly because everything was delicious. The edamame was tasty. I had the Kami Kazi roll and loved it. They didn’t have tuna so they had to substitute it with a different kind of fish(I’m unclear on exactly which fish though) but it was still very tasty. I was suprised that I liked the eel as much as I did. Typically, I don’t care for it. Well… I’ve only had it one other time but I disliked it enough to never order it again. But this was delish. I would be more than happy to eat more of it. Our waitress was very cute and friendly. She was also attentive and came by to refill my water twice. I should point out that this restaurant does not serve alcohol. I was ok with that but its something to keep in mind if you’re looking to have a drink.

Wow I always give the hole-in-the-wall places a shot this was terrible. I have tried about 10 sushi places in SA this was the worst one i could actually taste the fishyness in the sushi like it wasn’t clean or something. My waitress barely knew English she didn’t understand us and couldn’t explain anything… NEVERGOINGBACK

I only had two maki rolls, a volcano roll and a Crazy Horse roll so my review isn’t totally comprehensive. Both rolls were fried whole tempura style and drizzled with various roe and sauces. Both were pretty good but not better than Goro’s version of the tempura fried style roll. I actually think something a bit simpler, with less sauce and flourish, might come out better. I might suggest not getting both of these since they seemed somewhat similar. The fish in the Crazy Horse roll didn’t taste as fresh as it should have. Interior is pretty casual, perhaps café style. Prices seemed in line with other sushi places but a bit pricey if you typically look to spend $ 6 or $ 7 for lunch. Very enjoyable and I will be back to try the simpler maki, like California rolls, and sashimi.

You must have the volcano roll! I love all sushi, but even my father who scoffs at the idea of sushi enjoyed this roll. Yeah, yeah it’s a cooked one, but still– one bite & he considered that maybe he might need to give Japanese food another try. The staff is awesome– it’s a family owned business. Go there & eat great food!

Ever since moving to San Antonio from Virginia a little over a year ago, I’ve been on a quest to find the best sushi in town. I’ve hit up quite a few but, though I still have plenty more to visit, I’m going to go out on a limb and say I think I’ve found it! I stumbled upon Hazuki when a friend recommended it as a meeting place for a Girls’ Night. I got there a few minutes early to secure a table and grab a drink from the bar. I’ll be honest and say I might have looked like a fiening alcoholic with the reaction I had when they told me they didn’t have alcohol. I whined internally for a minute before heading across the street for an El Presidente Margarita at Chili’s to pass the time. When I returned and met my friends, I ordered one of their sushi combos and all of my friends got a couple of the rolls. My combo came with miso and salad. I wasn’t crazy about the salad dressing but still ate it because I’m a fatty. When my sushi came, I immediately forgot about the no alcohol thing. I don’t think I have EVER been served such generous portions of fish in all of the sushi places I’ve been in my life. Each piece was thick and long(that’s what she said…) and, despite my big mouth, I had to cut most of the pieces in half by Magyver-ing my chopstick into a knife. My friends’ rolls all looked AMAZING and they loved them. Despite ordering different varieties of things, everything came out at the exact same time. I went back for lunch this past Friday. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered a Spider Roll(a HUGE rarity for me, but my hangover had a craving…) and two pieces of white tuna. The Spider Roll was supposed to have lettuce on it but that sounded mehh to me and my hangover so I asked them to leave it off. Again, everything was delicious and I got the same big, thick pieces of fish I had last time. I looked through their menu while waiting for my sushi and noticed probably one of the BEST Lunch Specials ever…4 pieces of sushi and a maki roll(it sounded like you could choose which one you wanted) for $ 7.95. Can’t wait to try that one… most of the other sushi places in town have the same special for around $ 11-$ 15. But I have to address the elephant in the room(at least for me)…the no alcohol thing… I asked one of the sushi chefs if they planned on adding it to their repertoire anytime soon so that I could get toasty AND eat yummy sushi at the same time. He said they tried but it was pretty hard to get the licensing since they only have one entrance/exit. Another Unilocaler commented that you can BYOB but I noticed a sign on the door proclaiming«NOOUTSIDEBEVERAGES,» so I don’t know if that’s kosher anymore. I will admit that’s the only reason I gave them 4 Stars instead of 5. The sushi itself though DEFINITELYDEFINITELY deserves 5 Stars.
