This place is top notch in food and service. I just recently hosted a birthday dinner there for 18 guests and they didn’t miss a beat. Their menu is appropriate for an Italian restaurant. The atmosphere is wonderful. All my guests enjoyed the appetizers and meals and the waitstaff was incredibly thoughtful and prompt. I would recommend to anyone that wants great Italian food.

We went again last night and took my fussy son yet again the food was delicious ! My husband and I each had one of the specials and my son had the ravioli all were great. One complaint I order the special that had shrimp in it the pappardelle I asked for the shrimp to be left out because my husband is deathly allergic to shell fish when the bill came they didn’t discount the price of the dish one penny. I was a bit surprised.

This is our family staple for Italian food — whether it’s takeout or dine-in, it’s a go-to for us. The food is good, service is over-the-top-wonderfully-friendly and the dishes are very reasonable for the area.

It’s hard for me to find a restaurant that makes a good chicken parm, they nailed it. Excellent food, love BYOB. Will definitely be back!

I haven’t been back to this restaurant in a couple of years. Let’s start by saying I’m Italian and Im a really good cook as My Mama and Nona taught me. I really wanted to like this place because it not far from my house and BYOB. We made reservations and were sat by the busy door way that they were coming in and out of with food. That doesn’t bother me because Someone has to sit there, but … I really couldn’t even think because they have a singer who is very good, but way too loud for the small area they have him in. If only they turned down the music you could actually speak to those you are dinning with. The table next to us asked to be moved to another room and the waitress was very agitated by the request, which honestly it would have been easier just to lower the music. However this guy is a really good singer and just couldn’t be fully appreciated because of the volume. Food wise they do have gluten free pasta and I always take advantage of that. I ordered broccoli rabe, shrimp with olive oil and garlic. The flavor was very good, the pasta wasn’t cooked all the way and had some hard clumps. Also they brought me sausage instead of shrimp, but they were very nice to bring shrimp out on a plate to put on top of my meal. After one bite of the sausage I picked it out of my dish as it was chewy and very salty. My friends had stuffed salmon with spinach, pasta Pomodoro and lentil soup. They both didn’t care for the Pomodoro as it had a slight nutmeg flavor or a spice they couldn’t figure out. They felt the salmon was good with the spinach and the lentil soup was amazing. They have many special during the week that seemed like a good value.

As an Italian who loves to cook, it is rare that I can go out and sincerely say«That was one of the best meals I’ve ever had!» However, every time I come to Assagini Di Roma, I leave begging them for the recipe because their food is so scrumptious and delicious! It reminds me of my Grandma Julia and being back in her kitchen in Brooklyn. Trust me you want to check this place out

Food was great, best pork chops I have ever had in a rest. I give 2 stars to the owner, she is nasty, and seems only to cater to those she knows, I asked my server politely for cheese and the owner thought I was talking to her and she snapped wait a minute will you!!! She seems to have this attitude that she really doesnt care if you come back!!! On the way out I passed her, you think she would say thanks for coming? NO!!! she gave me the stink eye. I will visit there again!!! if the same thing happens I will write a more scathing review. NOTE! to the owner, several people I know had the same complaint about you! It doesnt cost YOU anything to be nice!!! BTW I had a reservation for 6:30 people came in b/4 me with no reservation and they were seated?? I told her I had a reservation and never asked my name, whats up with that???

What a great find! We were very pleased by the atmosphere and staff. The food was on point and left us wondering when we were going to return to taste some of the fantastic plates we saw going by as we enjoyed ours. There was live music, a 1 man show singing songs from Frank, Sammy, and Bobby Darin just to name a few. The volume of the music was a tad loud but still very enjoyable. I have one negative, some people reading this may say it’s a ridiculous one at that but the specials were hand written, photo copied and placed in the menu. It just kind of declassed the restaurant. I think it was a tad tacky maybe the owner should consider having the waitress/waiter read the specials to the table. Trust me this will not stop us from returning to this wonderful hidden gem. This update is to answer Joh’s question… Last minute date night with the wife and being unfamiliar to the area led me to Unilocal. It was the previous reviews that sent us.

Great food. Great staff. Great atmosphere. BYOB is a plus. Prices are reasonable. Hidden gem in a strip mall. Penne vodka is the best.

Friday evening 6⁄12 … called for reservations — 6.30pm — place was empty, but by 7pm there were 6 other tables seated. Food was really very good … we will be back. Vodka sauce is very good. Good size portions, prices are very reasonable.

So I’ve tried to make a reservation by calling here twice and was told there was no availability. Then today I called to see if they had a date available for a small dinner party for my husband ls 40th birthday. It was obvious that the man I was speaking to didn’t even check in a book or anything before saying No. I find this very odd especially since it’s 2 months away. I like to give my business to local businesses but places like this make it impossible. Very disappointed

First I would like to point out that for some reason Assagini Di Roma has two Unilocal profiles for Hazlet. This has a much higher rating, as it should ! I made sure to leave my review on both… I have dined here two times since moving close to Hazlet and both times have been blown away by the quality of both the food and service. My fiancé and I took my parents here over the weekend and they both shared our sentiments. I ordered the pappardelle a salerno and it was AMAZING ! The flavor of the champagne sauce and the texture of the pappardelle were outstanding. My mom had the sausage broccoli rabe and rigatoni which was delicious. The sausage superb! We mentioned to my dad how large the pork chops were so he decided to try that. The TWO chops that came out were HUGE– I mean none of us could Believe it. The thinly sliced potatoes and sausage that accompanied the chops were amazing as well. Take note of the pork chop Picture — my father finished every single morsel on his plate. Id say he liked it! Fiancé ordered the chicken parm for a second time and it again was spot on. We all love their red sauce. The ambiance is warm and inviting — you would not Expect the caliber of food, service and décor in a strip mall– do not let that deter you. Also– can’t beat that it’s a BYOB !

I’ve been to Assaginni di Roma on two occasions now and have found it to be one of the better italian offerings in Monmouth County that I have experienced. First of all, Assaginni is a bit hidden at the end of a shopping plaza in Hazlet. If you were not already looking for it, it is doubtful you would ever know it was there. Almost makes you feel like you’ve just discovered a secret. Second, Assaginni is also BYOB. I always appreciate that for an italian restaurant since I am free to bring the wine bottle of my choice to the meal rather than having to choose an unknown bottle from a list. That makes me very happy right from the start. As for the food… I’ve been pleased on both occasions. So far I’ve tried the Homemade Sausage Parmigiana and the Veal Milanese. Both have been great. For appetizers we have ordered the antipasto and the calamari. Both crowd pleasers. My one main complaint — which another reviewer has also noted — is that the bread which they served does not come with olive oil. Instead it just comes with little packages of butter. I think that is a huge mistake. If anyone from Assaginni is reading this, I highly suggest you correct that error. It cheapens the experience. I won’t pretend that this is the best Italian experience that I’ve ever had, but I’ve been very happy with Assaginni on my two trips and I will definitely be back.

My wife and I had a disastrous meal here. We were seated at a 4 top table by the waitress and the hostess made such a loud fuss that we were seated there(because of «so many reservations» that night) that we offered to move out of embarrassment. Interestingly, they sat two people at the same table after we moved. I guess regulars get the good tables and everybody else gets the inferior tables. We ordered an antipasto for two with instructions of no meat and the antipasto came out with meat. When we brought this to the waitress’s attention, she simply swept it off of the plate. We ordered a Chicken Murphy with no potatoes and it came with potatoes. We ordered a calamari and shrimp over pasta that came out breaded(which was not described on the menu). It must have been sitting in the sauce so long(perhaps while they were boiling the potatoes that weren’t supposed to be on the Chicken Murphy) that the breading was literally falling away from the calamari and shrimp and ruining the sauce. The breading had to be taken off of the fish to be edible. The dish was a failure. They realized how much of a catastrophe our meal was and tried to comp our coffe and desert but we had had it and just wanted to leave. If the three strikes and you’re out rule applies, they got three strikes in one meal. We will not return

After one visit i would say that this is one of the better Italian restaurants in the area. The menu is authentic and varied. On the plus side– very good bread, but there is no olive oil to dunk it in, just plastic packets of butter. There is the good quality of ingredients, and the attentive and friendly staff. The portions are reasonable– not stingy and not outlandishly large. The décor is ok– not tacky, but not really elegant. It is BYOB, and they have no corkage fee. On the minus side– a mistake in bringing out an item, and the veal parm was too thickly breaded, according to my wife, who judges Italian restaurants by this measure. The background music was a bit loud– ok when Sinatra and others run through the usual repertoire, but really grating when it has Streisand desecrating the American songbook. Oy vey! Basta! There is a separate dessert menu, without prices, and it looks like that part of the menu is not house-made. I didn’t try it. If you are in the area, this place is worth a try.

One of the finest Italian restaurants in the bayshore area. There are cheaper places and there are fancier places but I doubt you’ll find better value for your money anywhere in Monmouth County. The restaurant is family run and the portions are large. Momma runs the front of the house and her son runs the kitchen. Both are there working most nights and I fear one day they will both get burned out. The restaurant is BYOB but the owner often has«a few spare bottles in the back» if yer not picky about your grapes. The wait staff are always polite tho sometimes a bit overwhelmed by large parties. They do make pizza but only for take out and only during certain hours. All of the entrees look delicious and I’m working my way through the menu, item by item. The desserts are their only weak spot, frozen fare(from Belinni?) that I’ve seen at many other restaurants. Overall a great value, considering the portion size and quality of the food. I hope they have just enough customers to stay open but not so many that they change anything.

We went with friends who really like this place and they were right in that the food was very good and the place is nicely decorated. Prices are reasonable and the portions are large. It’s a BYOB which to me is an added plus. Yes, I would most definitely go back. The only real food issue was that the shrimp and calamari over past was breaded and fried which seemed strange to me. Who serves fried seafood over pasta but it was still tasty. I would suggest that the menu state it is fried though. So why then only 3 stars? I have to be objective and when a server does something like what I am about to describe, I get upset. One of my pet peeves and dislikes is when they start clearing dishes of those finished even though others may be eating. In a diner I could live with that but in a restaurant that’s wrong. Usually I will point out that someone is still eating and they will stop. But no not this overzealous person(who incidentally wasn’t our server but must have been helping her out). She continued to clean things away saying she was making more room for us! Even worse, she dropped something on Elliot’s plate, he being that one that was still eating. Then our regular server returns and starts pulling away Elliot’s plate while he is still eating. The irony is that Elliot didn’t mind and normally if he didn’t mind then I should not mind either but that was before I discovered life on Unilocal. Now I feel a moral obligation of sorts to point out a poor practice like that. Prior to the plates issue, 4 stars.
