Vicolo makes fresh and frozen gourmet pizzas. They come in a variety of toppings and all with their signature rich and crispy crust. I think you can even just buy the crusts and do your own fillings or toppings. Vicolo is sold at many grocery stores, like Whole Foods … but, no I don’t think WalMart. This location in Hayward is the distribution point and the products go out from here. I found my pizza at Costco on a recent trip to NV. It’s always interesting to visit other Costcos and see what different regional products they sell. I think this pizza is in the Bay Area Costco’s as well in the refrigerated section. This pizza came in a 2 pack for $ 14.99. It was a Italian sausage and mushroom pizza. It looked to be about a 12 incher. This was fresh pizza and never been frozen. My friend and I actually stayed in one night and cooked this pizza. Easy, just stick it in the oven and cook. I guess one could add other toppings if you wanted. …hint hint… bacon bits! Dang! That was probably the best take home and cook pizza I have ever had. I’ve had my share of grocery store frozen pizzas and this sure wasn’t anything like that! This was some rich pizza! I felt full after 2 pieces, and was it tasty! Not diet pizza at all! Yeah, it costs more than a Red Baron frozen pizza, but yes, it’s so worth it. $ 7.50 for a gourmet 12 inch pizza is a pretty good price. It might not beat the best restaurant pizzas, but sure beats Round Table! If you see this at the grocery store, GETIT! or just go to Costco in the deli section. See my pics in the pics section.

Yummy in my tummy! Make your own colorful pizza or be lazy and just add cheese + hummus to the cornmeal crust. Bake for 15 min and it’s delicious!!! What’s even better is that it’s pesticide, GMO free :) :) :) :) Oh yea, I bought mine at Whole Foods by the hummus/cheese/deli section. I wanted to buy the already pre-arranged pizza but there wasn’t the USDA certified organic stamp on it like the cornmeal one so beware if your in a hurry.

Picked up one of these pizzas at the market. It had the highest ratio ever of appearance to taste. Meaning… it looked great, it tasted terrible. I wasn’t looking for Dopo or Pizzaiolo, but seriously… the friday $ 5 special giant pizzas at SAFEWAY are better than these things. If you enjoy them, more power to you… mine sucked.

Freshly downed in my tummy, this pizza is amazing. Tonight I added sopressata and freshly sliced tomatoes to our pie and were in Heaven.

Rene C.‘s review brought back fond memories of Vicolo’s former Ivy Street Location and a must stop before or after a Davies Symphony Hall event. However, all is not lost as Andronico’s carries a nice selection of Vicolo Pizza and Calzone. You can also order a pie through Planet Organics, but they often have availability issues. Outside of Chicago, there is no better off-the-shelf cornmeal crust pizza available. And on Solano Avenue in Berkeley, I’ll sometimes even pick up a Vicolo’s Pizza over for home dining rather than order one hot from Zachary’s across the street. They’re that good.

I used to frequent the Vicolo in downtown Palo Alto on University when I first contemplated and finally moved out into the area. It’s been long gone now but you can still pick up the tasty cornmeal crust pizzas if you look hard enough. Definitely a fine example of a «California Pizza». May not be the same making it at home but still tasty nonetheless.

Pizza, baby. I discovered a delicious personal-size fresh pizza in the Whole Foods cooler. My plan was to include a photo of the pizza but I ate it, sorry.(The pizza, not the photo.) Anyway, here’s what the Vicolo Pizza label says: ‘Finally, a natural alternative to mass-produced frozen pizza! We’d like to introduce you to a new concept in store-bought pizza. An innovative product both in quality and versatility: Vicolo Original San Francisco Corn Meal Crust Pizzas. For these all natural, hand-made pizzas we combine our original cornmeal crust with the finest cheeses and freshest vegetables. Our ingredients change with the seasons to take advantage of California’s abundant variety of fresh produce. Vicolo Pizza can be served freshly baked or cooked from frozen.’ etc… The list of ingredients states that the crust is all organic. Works for me!
