Mis Tamales is located in Hayward just off Hesperian near the old Kaiser and close to 92 and 880. When on Hesperian there is a A-Frame Sign in the median advertising Mis Tamales. Mis Tamales is in a small shopping center with a private lot shared with the surrounding businesses. Parking is never an issue here and there is lots of street parking too. The interior had a few chairs to sit while waiting for your order and no tables. Do not plan on eating here. Unilocal has Mis Tamales listed as Mexican but it is El Salvadorian. Before coming by check their business hours especially since they are closed Sunday and bring cash. Also call ahead especially if ordering more then 6 Tamales to cut on your wait time while your order is prepared. My family request these Tamales for parties. I usually order one or two dozen which I have to call in ahead of time and when ordering in store you must submit a deposit. The menu is pretty basic with pupusas and tamales. The menu is posted on the wall behind and near the cash register. Of course their staple item is the Tamales. Tamale options are Chicken, Pork, and Jalapeño W/Cheese. Posted on the menu is a Cheese Tamale but that is not available. The tamales are served fresh and hot. The tamales maize had very good consistency because it was tender and held pretty well. The Chicken and Pork were flavorful and tender. I been here multiple times are their tamales are very consistent. The Lunch Plate is a really good value and served with a generous portion. I get the 2 Tamales option which comes with Rice and Re-fried Beans. The Rice and Re-fried Beans are pretty average and good but nothing separates its from other restaurants. This Lunch Plate is served with Curitda(cabbage) and their salsa. The Curitda was alright and similar to cole slaw. The salsa is watery with a vinegar taste. I also tried their Carne Asada Special Burrito. The Burrito consisted of Carne Asada, Rice, Sour Cream, and Fresh Cut Avacado. The Burrito was average and pretty big but a bit on the greasy/oily side. I will definitely stick with their Tamales. If you are in the area and or craving Tamales then definitely come by and give Mis Tamales a try. The prices here are very good with quality food. Remember to bring cash.

I finally made it in while they were open! Their hours are not the best for me but the pupusas they make there is worth the wait, Memorial day they were open and I stop to get some pupusas they make them nice and fresh while you wait or you can call ahead. Any pupusa combination is delicious. You can order revueltas, de queso, de queso y lorocco, de frijol y queso! It is all great to eat. I can’ wait to go back. I took some extra pupusas to put in the freezer.

I see their sign on Tennyson whenever I drive by and after maybe like a whole few months of seeing it … I finally tried it. ANDHOLYCRAP so worth it ! I haven’t had a lot of pupusas in my life, but this place bested my favorite. The owner is so nice, he heard that this was our first time over here. And he asked me and my bf what kind of tamales we liked, we answered thinking it was just a general conversation starter and he goes and throws in 2 free tamales ! Jalapeño tamale was bombbbb ! I bought 3 pupusas, a Coke and got 2 free tamales all for $ 7 and some change. Soo good ! Must try !

One of the best Carne asada burritos I’ve had in California. Asked for only meat, pico de gallo, and guacamole. Incredibly fresh ingredients, full chunks of avocado, and hand chopped tomatoes and japalenos. The only downer is that it’s bit more expensive than other places, costing $ 11.50. The price of higher quality. Small shop, hole in the wall, but friendly service. Highly recommended.

The food is decent but they are super inconsistent with their hours. I called at five to order pick up and they lady said they’re closed. Unilocal has em closing at 6:00 and so does the damn hours of operation on their door.

Love coming here during my lunch break. Carlos is so sweet and always greets me when I show up. However today, he must’ve been on break because no one was there to take my order. The Hispanic lady that works here has always been rude, she had seen me from the kitchen but didn’t come out to take my order, leaving me standing there for a good 10 minutes before I left.

The only reason I’m giving 3 stars and not 5 is because the service was so shitty. The lady who helped us had the most rude and sarcastic attitude. The food was delicious. I got 3 Pupusas and they were huge. They also had a lot of food inside(many Pupusa places are stingy). This was my first time, first impressions really count !!! Besides the rude owner/worker lady, the Pupusas are bomb.

Holy Crap this place is hella good! Don’t let the area deter you, it’s different, but don’t be scurred! My co-workers went to pick up tamales and pupusas and I am so hooked. Not only is the food really good, but their prices are amazingly cheap! The guy that owns the place is a sweetheart. Revuelta pupusa(chicharrones, beans and cheese) = $ 2.13 Pork tamales = $ 1.58 I dare say that the pork tamales are better than my moms(gasp), I will never tell her that, but my secret is safe with you guys :) I will most definitely be back to try more items! Google«best tamales in Castro Valley» and it will lead you to Mis Tamales. My family and I ordered 3 lunch plates — 2 tamales each with rice and beans. My daughter was upset that their cheese tamale was jalapeño/cheese. The cook(?) helping us with out order offered her a special tamale, where he removed the jalapeño. That is wonderful customer service. After a pretty short wait we received our three to-go lunches. Holy cow, everything was amazing. The tamales were full of meat and very moist. Beans were flavorful, tasted like those homemade ones made by my grandmother that I can not master. The rice was very fluffy and tasteful also. New go to tamale house.

Friendly guy at the front counter! He gave me a free queso tamale :) I ordered a pollo tamale, a queso tamale and queso pupusa. All were delicious! The texture when you bite into that queso tamale… *thumbs-up emoji* It was a little spicy for me, but I’m a total spicy wuss, so I’m sure it wouldn’t even register for a normal person. I found the pollo tamale a tad dry, but still liked it a lot. The pupusa was our favorite — truly heavenly! Perfectly salted. The right amount of cheese. Will repeat!

Yum yum, the rice is ok but the real star is their fried red beans. Tamales are a bit skimpy with the meat but they still have a good flavor, add some cheese and their hot sauce and there is no complaints for $ 3.99. They also have fresh of the grill pupusas for $ 2. Seriously cheap & tasty eats. Skip the burger or a run to the boarder, this is way better than fast food and cheaper too.

There is a tiny, but mighty group of us at work obsessed with pupusas. A Salvadorian colleague got us hooked. Now our cubicle and water cooler chat is all about where we’ve tried pupusas and if they were worthy. As soon as I learned our office was relocating, a pupusa search was my first off-book task. These were fantastic. $ 2 gets you a hefty pupusa. If you eat it, I recommend the pork because this is one of the few places that makes it salty enough. Even my Salvadorian colleague approves. Take out only. Cash only. Can call ahead.

What a hole in the wall! And staying true to form, I am down big time. It is basically ordering pupusas and/or tamales from an established El Salvadorean lady from the hood. But instead of meeting her in a Walmart parking lot, they have a tiny storefront off a hood in Hayward. Menu is basically different pupusas and tamales, but a few other offerings are hand written on the walls. Pupusas are on the hearty side, fresh and nicely grilled. The chicharones is my fave as it adds a nice zing of soulful pork flavor to all that corn masa goodness. Tamales are thick and hearty too but are a little light on the meat, but I’m down with that cuz tamales are all about the masa in my book. And here the masa doesn’t disappoint with it being nice and tender and quite flavorful. But whatever stewed meat is in those tamales, are very flavorful and legit. Curitda(cabbage slaw condiment) is ok and their salsa is watery thin with a vinegar edge, but it is very flavorful with a sting of heat. I actually like to mash up my tamale a bit and douse the masa with this sauce. It absorbs completely into the dough and is so gooood! A plate combo(under 5 bucks) is choice of tamale or pupusa but served with rice and beans. The rice is El Salvadorean style versus Mexican, a little more rustic and unique. The beans are smooth and liquidy. Incredibly filling meal on the cheap. A la carte prices: Round buck fiddy for a tamale. A little over 2 bucks for a pupusa. I saw a lot of neighborhood peeps picking up bags of this stuff after calling it in. Looks like I’ll be joining that squad soon enough, yeeeee! No dining in, all take-out. Open til 6pm, so no night business. These are better and cheaper than the Tortilla Factory’s version. Love my new hit-up!

Small menu. It’s worth it though. Everything was fresh and fantastic. The beef on our tacos were tender and full of spicy flame broiled flavor. The tamales were perf but could use a bit more meat. I loved everything I had eaten. I killed my whole lunch plate. But, oddly, the thing that makes me crave this place are the beans and rice. I HAVENEVERBEENSOOBSESSEDWITHBEANS! Can I just order a styrofoam cup of beans? God damn all I want are those beans now. I wish this place would carry some fresh made beverage options. I bet they would be amazing. The prices here are too good to pass up. Come try this place at least once. CASHCASHCASHCASHONLY. For now?

After getting my nails done and I walked out and I saw this place couple doors down. I am a sucker for Tamales so if I see it ill eat it. Its call the SEEFOOD diet. Price is cheap and theres no where to sit. Pretty much go in and order and take home. You can also order platters for parties. The prices are cheap however I ordered 4 chickens and one cheese. Since that’s all they had available. I would pass because literally all I got was maza no meat at all. I usually love maza but it was way too much maza. Really no wow factor or flavor that makes it good. Sorry but may be it was a bad batch that sunday afternoon.

You cannot beat a tamales meal for just a few bucks! A meal of 2 tamales, beans, and rice(very filling meal) came out to less than $ 4! The tamales were good, although there weren’t enough meat in them. Delicious and filling nonetheless. The refried beans were very tasty. There were other items on the menu that we have not yet tried yet, but since we live very close nearby, we will definitely be visiting this place often. The owner/worker was friendly and welcoming to us. This area is located at a residential area so it may be a bit tricky to find.
