Great River Chinese Restaurant

So much better food with the new owners. Service is great, a lot off people order takeout. Don’t forget this is Hayward and not the city or downtown. I was very impressed will be returning.

My go-​to Chinese spot. Always get the honey walnut prawns. The food is always fresh and the people are friendly. All the other Chinese spots I’ve tried in Hayward have had mediocre food or made me feel unwelcome. Love this place.

I work at Hayward, and one of my coworker suggests this place for lunch. We ordered more than 5 rice plates for my team. The food was way over my expectation. I was really enjoying, and my team, too. I will definitely order the lunch again in the coming Wednesday for our company party.

This is regarding delivery only– I’ve never been to the physical restaurant. This restaurant has VASTLY improved. Pork buns, pork egg rolls and the spicy eggplant and broccoli beef are really good. They need to work on consistency — it’s still hit and miss — and seafood dishes tend to be largely veggies — but they are my go to restaurant for delivery. They are fast and very polite, and if there is a problem, they are very responsive. I hope they will continue to improve.

They told me they change the owner. the food is so good now. And the service is so nice. I love their food and will come back again.

Excellent American Chinese food, but the quality of the fried stuff is kind of inconsistent. Sometimes perfect, not greasy, and delicious
This is a good place to eat if you’re hungry and want quick food that will definitely fill you up on the cheap. This place is pretty americanized, but what do you expect.

The NASTIEST Chinese food I’ve ever had The food has no flavor and you can tell the cook didn’t put any love into making these food. You’re better off going somewhere else to get better Chinese food.

This place is your typical Americanized Chinese restaurant. I only eat here when my friend orders delivery. Most of their food is bland. Although i do think the fried chicken dumplings and their wonton soup is good.
Not much to say, it’s just okay. The person who delivers is usually super nice though.

I don’t often get Chinese food, but I was in the mood so I looked on Unilocal in this place had decent reviews. I got one of the family meals as well as some extra items. The hot and sour soup was just sour, and actually pretty bland… Not much flavor at all. The broccoli and beef had decent flavor, but the beef was a lot of gristle and the broccoli was huge stocks, it was kind of tough to eat. Everything else was kind of meh… I like that I can order through Unilocal and didn’t have to call them, but I don’t think I will be going back there again.

I can’t give this restaurant too much glory but it’s better than most. They got my dine in order correct on one occasion. Another occasion where I ordered to go… hella screwed my order up. I don’t see how me saying «Wonton Soup» sounds like «Hot n Sour Soup». And I learned to check my food before leaving, then getting all the way home! Food is good, not great. Service can be a lot better but hey I expect it to be grade D.

TERRIBLE service. I ordered orange chicken, fried prawn, chicken chow mein and pot stickers. Three out of four were bad!
Orange chicken was soggy and had no flavor AT ALL. The chicken in the chow mein had fat and cartilage in it. Worst of all the breading on the prawns was so undercooked it was like biting into a warm glob of dough. Disgusting.
I called to ask for a refund on the prawns and orange chicken. The lady on the phone basically told me that she wouldn’t refund me because most people like the orange chicken. I explained that I have had it before and it was fine, but this time it was just not good. Period. She argued with me for 10 mins about it before agreeing to send the delivery guy back to take the food back BEFORE she refunds us. So petty!
I don’t often complain on Unilocal but this service was insulting and the food was disgusting. I’ll never eat here again.

I ordered 2 items for delivery; Garlic chicken and crispy duck…
1. It was delivered 35mins late.
2. The delivery guy, was not too friendly was in a rush.
3. The food was not what I was expecting to be…
1. garlic chicken became mixed vegetables w/​shrimp
2. the crispy duck did not seem so eatable, it was not even close to crispy, it was very chewy.
My very first time ordering and I don’t think I would do it again or even recommend it. It’s awful. I’m sorry.

Horrible absolutely disgusting. No flavor. The veggies tasted like dirty water. The meat was cooked in old grease. The veg. rolls.

I used to come here once in a while and the food was, meh.
I was in the area a couple times and the first time after a while, I went and the food was decent and the lady was real kool. So I decided to give them another try. I called it in and I was a little far from the location. I walk in and this new lady says «you are late.» I told her yes, I was not in the area. I did not have to explain myself but did anyway. I have not experienced that at a restaurant. Even if I am a little late, they keep it there for me or call. Then she said it 2 more times. If I already didn’t pay for it plus them going through the trouble of making it, I would have walked out.
So I wait for her to bring me my food. Waiting, waiting and more waiting… I call out to her a couple of times and she doesn’t answer me. So I said one more time, Excuse me and she said your food is ready.
So I said my food wasn’t even ready? She said «since you were late we gave it to someone else, this one is fresh.» She just used the last part as an excuse.
That’s not right.
I told her she could of called me if it was such a problem and she said «I know.»

I said I am not coming back here and left. Bad customer service. They are expensive too.

The service is great and fast! My family ordered a dinner for 5 and we were served under 15 min. Food is delicious and tasty and this is our 5^th time at this place. Very close to home and open late. I definitely recommend this restaurant. The only reason i dont give it 5 stars is because the place is not that attractive inside but regardless food is amazing!

When I don’t feel like cooking or driving and I want Chinese food, this is the spot. I can walk to it from my house. I place my order on the phone and they are always so friendly. It’s never, ever crazy busy so your big group is fine and your to go order will be ready in a jiffy. My dad has lived in several places and he still stops by this restaurant whenever he’s in the area, EVEN without me!
Order the sautéed string beans and ask them to make it a little spicy and you can’t go wrong with the pork chow mein Hong Kong style. Yum.
