I recently moved to Hayward from the west bay. There are fewer Safeways in Hayward and I haven’t found a Mollie Stone’s. But I don’t care anymore! The Food Source is incredible! The prices are VERY low. The selection is great. Sure you have to bag your own, big deal, AND the lines are longer, BIGDEAL. To be able to save the kind of money you can at Food Source is so worth it. I do think Raley’s is the parent company since I saw their trucks there. The store is huge, it is super clean and the prices are great!

If your budget is tight is a better spot than Food Max. You can get some good deals, but watch the produce. If you get it when first put out its great other wise is hit and miss. I did notice onions are usually very old and peeled several times as they age to sell.

OMG yes. I get double the food here that I get at a Safeway/Lucky for the same price. Produce is very cheap. I didn’t say it was good, I said it was cheap. Meat is cheap. Deli is cheap. The store is huge. Go during non-busy times and it’s paradise. Go during the weekends and expect to wait in a long line. Is it sketchy? Sure. It’s next to a recycling center and you have to go inside Food Source to reedem cash. It seems like half of the clientele is paying with EBT. Besides, you live in Hayward. Aren’t you used to this by now? $ 30 and I walked out with food for 2 weeks. Sweet.

Pretty sad that this store will no longer accept coupons printed online, even from legitimate sources like . With proper training your cashier can learn how to spot copies.

I love this store, have shopped here weekly for over ten years now. They’ve helped me to feed three growing boys when we couldn’t afford much. They have an excellent butcher, bakery and Deli section. I have always been happy with the produce, too. Keep in mind, however it is not Safeway or Lucky’s, so if that is what u are expecting, open your wallet and go elsewhere. The employees are always pleasant and helpful, though there are a couple ladies who run the groceries through too fast for us amateur baggers! And to the lady below who thought it was Food Source who came up with the idea to charge for bags, you are ignorant and need to pay attention to local legislation. KEEPUPTHEGOODWORKFOODSOURCETEAM! We rely on you in our house!

I got food at Food Source. It is good. I have always liked shopping here. They are a Costco without membership. Never seen a ripoff item and have everything brand or selection wise. It is hard not to shop. The trick for me is to visit often but not overdo. That is easier said than done. Nice day out here. Saw a ghost outside before going in once. A flash for a second. Must have been a sailor from the 1800 era clothing. Just a flash. There is a huge cemetery across the street but doubt anything there. They shop here too. Rotisseries chicken is a great impulse buy at $ 5 always. Everything good. 19 Oct 2013

IT’S LIKEWALKINGINTO A FOODMAXX!!! I thought I was drunk when I walked in here for the first time, it looked exactly like a Food Maxx, from the layout to the prices, it was just too freaky. All joking aside, I loved coming here after my gym session and grab some quick groceries. Fresh fruits and veggies at affordable prices, great meat options, and of course tons of wine selections as well. The only gripe I have about this store is the lack of cashiers, there’s always 2 working and the line gets pretty ugly– especially when I normally have less than 5 items.

Cheap produce and lots of it! Yes, please, take me here! I went with my PID(partner in dining) Jason on a drive around the neighborhood when this spot just happened to catch his eye. We were going grocery shopping anyway but needed to stop at BofA which is in the same complex. In effect, our trip to a spontaneous turn. Apples here were way less than $ 1.99 a pound which is what you normally see in groceries like Safeway and Lucky’s. In addition, the produce is endless! There are so many different kinds of apples and pears. Not to mention the variety of produce at such affordable prices. It’s kind of like Food Max. We stocked up on produce for the week and were very happy at the check out. The End. Until next time, happy bargain hunting!

It is time for a major overhaul of my original review. This place sucks plain and simple. The people lingering in the parking lot are getting worse and worse, I never feel safe when I come here. I always prep and get my keys in hand before walking out of the store. The past couple times I’ve been they have the prices jacked up on food especially meat but the quality of what you get is garbage. Many of the meat products look to be going bad. Also when I returned home I found several boxed goods damaged and opened looking to be from poor handing of the people stocking items. Then I decide to go there and buy 200.00 worth of groceries… and go to bag my food and there is NOBAGS. Not because they ran out but they felt it is now a good idea to charge for bags. GTFO! If they are going to up sell on shitty quality product and then take bags Why the EFF wouldn’t I pay to go to safeway. Sober-up food source.

For the most part this place is cool, and often you can find some pretty good deals. I find though there is certain items that are actually really expensive, like the things you need like milk, cottage cheese, certain fruits and veggies, and other things when on sale can be incredibly cheap. The one thing i do not like about this place is sometime there could be 1 or 2 cashiers and the lines can be a little wild and long, also you get people with food stamps and those always slow down the line.

Cheap veggies and meat. You can find most products here just a tad bit cheaper than most grocery stores. So if your going to stock up the fridge its worth the drive over there

It’s close to home so I come here very often. Mostly when I need to get milk, eggs, bread or any other of the essentials. Some of the staff here is super nice and very helpful. I don’t much care for the freshness of their produce or meats but their prices are cheap compared to Lucky’s or Safeway.

An excellent alternative to FoodMaxx which is always too crowded. I’ve gotten some great Catfish and Snapper here, but I haven’t tried any of the beef or pork. They do have a large selection, though. The bread selection is huge. The beer selection is just as big as a fancy Safeway’s. The produce selection is very large and varying in price. This place is cheap and has some weird brand names i’ve never heard of, but ends up being cheaper and tasting just as good.

I came back to give this place another chance. Normally I just come here for redbox, but since I’m here and it’s close I thought I’d look one more time. There were a few things that were a good price, but not much. The savings were listed at like .30 cents over supermarkets mostly. They do have a generic rice cake which is nice as most places don’t and Zingers were a good price. The selection left much to be desired however as they don’t have much in terms of generic cereal or any sausages like polish or what not. Not worth coming for me at least.

On the way home to Fremont, we came here to pick-up some groceries. It has been a while since we have been to the store, and we did remember it was great«No-frills» warehouse market — I like the concept of a this type of grocery store and I am glad that they offer competition to the majors! The grocery, meat, produce, bakery and sundry departments had a good selection, were competitively priced and were well presented. The only department lacking a good selection was the liquor department. There was not much of a selection at the liquor department, and prices were just fine for a warehouse grocer — I suspect this was not the focus at this store. Service on the floor was bare and check-out took some patience. This was the same as my regular store! I have learned to accept patience at these warehouse stores, and, at times, at has been a good test of my patience If I lived closer to this store, I would definitely be shopping at it more often. This place will give some great competition to others in the area!

WOW! This is my 400thREVIEW!!! OMIGOSH! I came here yesterday with my bf to kill time because I was eating my FREE ice cream from the Baskins Robbins in the same plaza. When I walked in the store, the place is huge compare to FoodMaxx. This store carries more varieties of food products and personal items too! =) I love it how they organize the can goods in the aisles. The Jelly Belly section is awesome! Love the Buttered Popcorn flavor! The prices is somewhat similar to the FoodMaxx’s. The routine is the same, you have to pack your own groceries instead of them. The employees are nice and very helpful too!

I have a question. And it is a serious question. What have I ever done to you to make you hate me? Seriously. Do you think I’m rich? Do you think I have time to clip coupons and look through food ads to see where I can get the best discount? Do you think I like to spend my extra money on food and NOT on booze? Linda M. FINALLY let me in on the big secret that is Food Source. Prices are great on most items(you still have to be careful on other items — like soda is not cheaper). Fruit and veggies are fresh and low price. Meat selection is good and well priced. Dairy — again, good selection and cheaper than Safeway and Lucky and Trader Joe’s. They do have name brands and generic items. They had everything on my list except for vegetarian freeze dried soups in a bowl where you just add water. But that’s not bad. So please, I BEG you, let this newcomer«IN» on the other cheap places in the Bay Area! I’m not made of money! i.e. is there an Alda’s around here somewhere?

There’s one thing I especially like about this store. Because I always think of it as «the grocery store where I have to bag my own groceries», I’m thinking about that when I go there and I actually REMEMBER to bring in my canvas bags. I almost never remember to bring them to Safeway. What I don’t like about this store is the layout. You walk in, through produce, then dairy and bakery before getting to the regular food aisles. So then when(not if, WHEN) I realize that I forgot the green onions after I’m already at the frozen food by checkout, I either have to backtrack in an Ikea-esque manner, or say«Screw the green onions.» My fading memory seems to be a recurring theme here. Prices are good. Parking is easy. Folks are friendly.
