CUSTOMERSERVICEISTERRIBLE! When I arrived I noticed table #1 was empty(the only newly felted table, all others have tears, and/or duct tape), so I asked«Tim»(a white man, with dreadlocks) if it was available, he responded with«NO.» After several attempts at finding a decent table I settled on table #12, when I had noticed Tim and another employee playing on table #1. I then confronted Tim about the issue, he stated he wasn’t playing on the table(even though I saw him); and the other employee«John»(a young black man) did not work there. Tim was clearly lying to me since I saw John help himself to a plate of nachos, before walking back into the kitchen. I asked if he lets all customers help themselves nachos, he said«uh yeah sure, go ahead.» Tim was clearly acting facetious towards me. John tried to «convince» me that a tear in the felt wouldn’t affect my shot, and that its all in the angle you shoot it at. Okay, Ive been playing Billiards for over 12 years, and I’m on a league, so let me ask you John… Do I have«BOOBOOTHEFOOL» written on my forehead? A tear in the felt absolutely affects your shot if a ball were to roll over it. So John, if it doesn’t affect your shot than why won’t you play on one of the tables with the duct tape or tears??? Both Tim and John refused to move from table #1, John even suggested 2 – 3 other billiard halls I could go to, instead of playing at «Chalk It Up.» This is not a complaint about subpar table conditions, this is a complaint about the lack of customer service at Chalk It Up. In the 10 years I have worked customer service jobs, I have never heard of a customer being turned away, so that an employee can get first priority. Subpar Tables + Terrible Customer Service = Chalk It Up-Hayward

Tables are in horrible shape. Found the place to be a bit on the dirty side. Everyone was friendly enough, but it seems if pool is your business, you should have half way decent tables.

Dark, a tad dirty, need to get better employees. Get better snack items. Kept seeing some guy go in and out of the kitchen eating, not sanitary.

No clue this existed. It’s on Foothill near the CVS and AT&T. It looks like someone’s basement downstairs(they have arcade games upstairs, classics like Time Crisis and House of the Dead), but there’s a ton of pool tables, an air hockey table, and a basketball shooting game inside. There’s even a bar. PBR22 oz. cans for $ 3 and Tecate(unfortunately ran out when I got there late Sunday night) cans for $ 2 is a steal. Pool is $ 12 per hour, per person. The bartender/pool table scheduler somewhat resembles James Franco from Spring Breakers, but he is nice enough. Tables aren’t perfect, and place looks kind of old, but who’s complaining? It’s like a more urban Dave and Buster’s. It’s super hot in here, and they try to mitigate that by having fans in the place, but it doesn’t do much. Just go upstairs for frequent«sweat breaks» and you should survive. Bathroom is somewhat like a subway’s, with ground being fairly wet and not wanting to touch anything, but hey, it’s an urban D&B, right?

Great place to play pool, but it does have its downsides. I went late yesterday night, and the place was awfully stuffy and sweaty with no air conditioning — it was close to unbearable. Besides that, I could give this place a solid four stars. However, we ordered food, and it was super disappointing. I understand their focus isn’t the food, but this has to be the worst bar food in the history of crappy bar food. For $ 13, we got four tiny flavorless tacos and a small tray of nachos made of cheap processed canned food. Seriously, don’t eat here even if your life depended on it.

They have Sapporo beer on tap! First time seeing that in Hayward. Came here on a Monday afternoon. Dude named Jesus was working. He offered great customer service and was willing to help when needed. He even mentioned if I have student ID that I could get a discount. Will definitely be back thanks to the great environment and awesome customer service. Thanks Jesus!

Definitely on the come up. Huge place and nice staff. Can’t wait for them to get s liquor license and more pub grub. Didn’t play pool but could see myself spending hours here. Woulda given 4 stars if it had more parking.

Just wanted to shoot some pool and have a few beers. Five hours later and many drop in family members. We had a blast. Three generations just shooting some pool. We will be back again

What do you expect, I guess. It’s a pool hall. Sadly, it’s a run down and aging pool hall so the ambiance is a crappy as the surface on the tables. There’s definitely the need for this place in the neighborhood but I’d go way more often if the tables were in slightly better condition and everything got an update so I didn’t feel like I was hanging out in my buddy’s garage.

This place is kind of confusing. I went here last night with a group. When we first walked in, some guy asked us if we’re drinking, and none of us were because nobody was 21. Any who, it was my first time here and while the person who came here before had to grab something outside we walked to a pool table that had nobody playing. My group was just regrouping the pool balls together, and some girl walked up to us being so rude that the table was taken already and they paid for it. Understandable. But they weren’t even playing there for the longest time… So we put our name down to be called, and said it was going to be a twenty minute wait. I talked to one of the guys asking about why we couldn’t play when obviously one group didn’t want their table. There was at least two more tables that were free. Yeah I’m aware there’s other people waiting before us but honestly I didn’t see any other group waiting besides us. There was not another group waiting somewhere. We decided to leave and we checked how much longer it would take for us to get a table. And the guy said he called our name about three times. Well obviously he might’ve not because we couldn’t hear anything and didn’t hear our group being called. And if he did call our name, obviously again we didn’t hear and he knew we were waiting forever. He could’ve used some common sense to come up to our group and tell us. They should have someone waiting in the front with a book and list to take down. Or at least have that guy who asked if we’re drinking let everyone know that comes through the door to make sure to put our names down to get a table. Tsk tsk.

My friends and I come here on occasion just to hang out and catch up. It’s a quick and easy meet-up, there’s always table’s open and there’s always enough cue’s to go around. The staff is usually friendly and since they started renovating it’s beginning to look a little nicer inside, they still have a ways to go though. I usually stick to pool so I have no notes on the ping pong or beer pong, but maybe soon they can be a full blown and fancy pool joint! I look forward to the atmosphere, not so much the raising prices though!

The outside has changed a lot since the revamp of the downtown Hayward area. Once you walk in, there are stairs that lead downstairs to all the tables. They have a good amount of tables available and they also have 2 beer pong tables. The inside could use some remodeling. It gets really hot inside because it’s not very well ventilated and I don’t think they turn on the AC ever. The prices are decent and a pretty chill place if you want to hang out with a group of friends either on a weeknight or weekend. They do have a bar!

This is a fun inexpensive place to go and hang out all night. If you bring a group of friends and split the tab then it will be no problem at all! They have beer pong(on certain nights), pool, air hockey, arcade, and ping pong! The food is not that good but if u don’t mind just going there for fun and enjoying a drink or two then this is the spot for you! Plus they open super late!

I used to come here way before it even changed/renovated Pretty cool spot to kick it, have some drinks, and play pool. They play music in the background(mostly hip-hop) I love that this place has a lounge seating section upstairs, you head down the stairs where they have a beer pong table, hockey table, ping pong table, and pool. Restrooms are really clean and spacious They have this new bar downstairs that only serve beer(no hard liquor) They charge by the hour and need an ID to hold up for payments Family friendly and mostly always a good vibe.

From the outside it looks nice but once you walk down the paint smelling stairs the vibe changes. A good kick it spot for those who aren’t into clubbing or aren’t of age to drink. Came on a sat night and didn’t have to wait for a table but the tables were too close to one another. Bathrooms didn’t flush and were out of toilet paper. The people behind the bar looked like little kids in highschool. Overall it was an «OK» ecperience.
