Tranquility Day Spa & Salon

I love, love, love Tranquility. The staff is great — for whatever service you are going for. They did my mani, pedi, and makeup for my wedding. I went for over a year for regular facials, and several months for haircuts. The atmosphere is so relaxing, I’m tempted to just go and read a book! Parking is easy and access to the building is very easy. I’m only giving it four out of five stars because they are so awesome, booking can be cumbersome. Since I’m a commuter, most of my appointments have to be scheduled up to two months out. But if you can get in, I highly recommend it!

I called this morning to make a waxing and pedicure appointment, and the receptionist, Joanna, was extremely pleasant, and was able to schedule me for both today — even though it was a last-​minute call. The esthetician, Leslie, was wonderful! She had the most gentle technique I’ve ever experienced; virtually painless eyebrow waxing! The nail technician, Jeannette, was excellent and very knowledgeable about nail care. She, too, was very pleasant and gentle. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found this salon; the experience was amazing. Everyone was very professional, welcoming and gracious. The salon itself was very clean and well-​appointed with comfortable and stylish furnishings. Overall, just loved this place and the whole experience! Thanks.

Brooke was recommended to me to cut/​color my curly hair. She was absolutely wonderful! It seems like not many stylists know how to deal with extremely curly hair; however, Brooke can and I highly recommend her. I plan on trying out a spa service in the future and making an afternoon of it!

Been going there for a few months and first thing’s first, the staff are ALWAYS pleasant. Whether it’s in person or over the phone, they have always taken their role in customer service seriously in ensuring that my needs have been met by them.
As far as who I see on a regular basis, Jessica is such a delight. Considering that I am getting such an intimate/​private service done, I have felt at ease with her since day one. She’s easy to talk to regarding what my expectations are and a great listener because she follows through. My appointments have always been on time and I’ve never had a bad experience with her. Facials or waxings, I would definitely recommend to see her.

The staff here are wonderful and very welcoming unfortunately, bth haircuts I had here (from two different stylists) were okay, at best and pretty bad, at worst.
My hair is fine and hard to manage but for 60 $ per haircut, I really expected much better

Ahhhh my home-​away-​from-​home! As a former spa manager, I appreciate quality services, ambiance, and friendly, talented staff –all of which can be found at Tranquility for an affordable price. I will try to keep my gushing as concise as possible:
Staff: Everyone at Tranquility is warm and welcoming. The front desk representatives are as professional over the phone as they are in person. I know that as soon as I open the door, I will see a smile on the other side. Susie is my stylist and colorist, and she always does a fabulous job. She knows how to work with my thick, straight hair, and my color is always rich and natural (although her versatility knows no bounds as I have seen her create some brilliantly vibrant looks, too!). I look forward to my conversations with her and trust her judgment. One time, I asked for «the usual» with my color, and she applied it, but then she came back a few minutes later and said, «Okay, I think THIS color would look awesome on you for the fall.» I looked at the sample and agreed, and she masterfully changed my color by adding to what was already processing on me. It looked AMAZING, and I’ve been using that color ever since!
My husband sees Stephanie for his haircuts. He is extremely particular but always comes away satisfied. He even trusts her enough to try new styles, an accomplishment that even I can’t pull off!
Amenities: Tranquility has tons to offer in this department, and it’s all complimentary. In addition to water, coffee, and tea, they also offer wine and some seasonal beverages like hot apple cider in the fall. For food, they have cheese and cracker plates, chocolates, and mini cupcakes from Cupcake Heaven, the delicious cupcake shop a few floors beneath them. Sometimes they have skincare samples available, like handcrafted soaps and scrubs.
In addition to all these delightful goodies, they have a nap room! What is that, you ask? It’s a dimly lit room in the spa portion of their establishment with long couches and piles of clean blankets and pillows. Tranquility understands that sometimes the only opportunity their guests have to relax is when they’re getting services done, so the nap room is available for up to two people to go and rest at a time. I think this idea is genius.
Pricing: Tranquility offers mid-​range prices. I pay about $ 63 for an all-​over demi permanent color and approximately the same for a haircut and blow-​dry. My husband pays $ 50 for his haircut. I definitely feel the services warrant the cost, and if you are a new client, Tranquility provides some coupons.
Tips: Definitely book your services in advance as the technicians book up quickly! Also, bring cash or checks exclusively for each tip; you cannot tip on a card there.

The staff here is incredible! The atmosphere is always so peaceful and soothing. They never skip a beat asking if I want any food or drink. Leslie is unbelievable for my eyebrows and know how to make the perfect arch. Brook just did my hair and I couldn’t be happier! She gave me the perfect winter glaze and styled it perfect!

After reading previous reviews I almost cancelled my appointment, but chose against it because I was in DESPERATE need of a haircut! Boy am I happy I went! First, when calling for a reservation the women couldn’t have been nicer!!! When I entered the salon it was clean, and very mellow! I then was escorted through the salon door and was offered water, tea, lemonade and hot apple cider! Along with cupcakes!!! I waited maybe 5 min (not long at all and long enough to eat my cupcake!) Rachel (who is AMAZING) then pulled my in the back, went over what I wanted, told me EXACTLY how she was doing to approach the cut I desired and then took me for the best hair wash EVER! Seriously the scalp massage is to die for! Not only was she so easy to talk to but she continuously made sure that what she was doing was still what I wanted! She blew my hair out and even gave it a nice curl! (I also got a small pink extension for breast cancer!) I couldn’t be happier!!! Whatever previous reviews are out there of this place don’t listen! One of the best salon experiences I’ve ever had!!!

I received a gift card for this place and used it for a one hour massage. The spa is housed in a charming brick building, it’s neighboring businesses include a cupcake bakery and yarn shop. Nicole did an awesome job, I don’t normally go for massages and it’s been ages since I had one. I don’t care for massages because they can be painful and leave me feeling bruised and tender. I know people always tell me it’s because my muscles are tight. But I don’t care, these types of massages are not my idea of relaxation. But I digress, Nicole started on my back and let me know up-​front to tell her if she needed to adjust the pressure. But she was spot on, it was enough pressure without feeling really painful. The hour flew by and when she was done it left me wanting more. When I came out to the waiting area she offered me a plate of chicken salad with crackers, cheese and fruit. Then there was the signature cupcake, a moist chocolate cupcake with a light and airy frosting. Overall I would say everyone at the spa was friendly and the customer service was top notch.

My day of beauty was wonderful. I started with highlights, trim, and style with Angela my long-​time stylist who consistently delivers superior results, is knowledgeable about products, and truly cares about her clients. Angela transformed my hair from drab to fabulous. Then, I transitioned to the spa and had one of the best mani/​pedis ever. Michelle ensured I was comfortable and made my toes and nails sparkle. Her attention to detail and cheery disposition made my experience even more relaxing. Thank you Tranquility!

I was introduced to Tranquility by a gift for a massage. I had the best massage ever by Nicole! The décor was beautiful and the atmosphere relaxing. All the staff were personable and professional. Make sure you ask for Nicole when scheduling a massage!

Love this salon! Krystal is an amazing colorist and stylist — she always listens to exactly what I want and takes care to give me a great haircut. I love the waiting area, and the staff are generally very nice and helpful. Also, I love the spa-​like atmosphere of the location. It makes getting a haircut a relaxing mini-​vacation for me.

Amazing service. I highly recommend Esther– she was able to get the color or cut just right. My hair was really dry/​damaged after letting it grow out (with no cuts for 6 months) for my wedding. I left with beautiful color and much healthier hair.

If I am just rating my hairstylist — FOUR STARS. I LOVE KRYSTAL! Since moving to VA in 2007, I had yet to find someone who can give me a cute bob hair cut. Finally — I found someone and it was a total fluke. She did such a great job and it grew out just beautifully.
If I am rating the reception area — TWO STARS. Not friendly. Seriously — is it just me? Aren’t the reception people suppose to ask me if I needed anything to drink? Shouldn’t they make me a cup of coffee? or a cup of water? The salons I’ve gone to normally do that for me — but not this place. I have only been there twice and I have walked in when women are already seated with their drinks. However, when I return and I witness someone being served by reception — I will make a scene. It drives me crazy when I am treated differently than other similarly situated people. It is totally unacceptable, as if my money isn’t good enough. SIDE NOTE: Krystal does ask me if I want something to drink.
I’m done with my rant.

I’ve been here a couple of times to have my hair blow dried and it was a disaster! I agree with everyone as far as their salon side. It leaves a lot to be desired. Seems like they’re only used to dealing with one type of hair and are not very versatile.
I don’t usually have a positive experience with their front staff either, they’re not very welcoming and just go through the motions. I suppose I do not look like I should be a patron there.
Now the spa side is completely different! Shout out to my girl Jessica Curley. I go to her for waxing and facials! She’s absolutely amazing and truly loves her job! I don’t mind paying a little more for quality service!

I have been going to Tranquility for about a year now for cuts and color, and I have never had a more positive experience at a salon. Prior to going into this salon, I had lost faith in stylists after a number of bad haircuts and color jobs from multiple salons (both upscale and the less pricey mall salons). I actually started coloring my hair myself with those DIY box color kits, so I had quite a mess to try to correct when I made my initial apt. The stylist was clean, professional, polite, and up front about everything including the charges to make sure I’d be OK with the plan and the price.
Several months later, my hair looks the best it ever has, and I get complements several times a week. Bottom line, I’ve got difficult hair and somehow, my stylist manages to make it look great for weeks. This is a feat that hasn’t been successfully done in many years, so my hat is off to my stylist. She clearly knows what she’s doing.
I’ve never waited more than 15 minutes to start my appointment, and they’re very generous in putting out beverages and snacks (including delicious cupcakes from the bakery down stairs) for anyone waiting. I will agree that on one occasion, my stylist was busy with another client and my blow out was finished by the assistant, but I believe this happened because they were trying to accommodate another client who came in with some major hair issues that needed immediate attention. It worked out fine, and my hair still looked great. They also don’t pressure me to buy expensive products, and I really appreciate that.
I’m not one who enjoys paying major $$ for extra expensive frills and fancy at a salon, but tranquility manages to keep an upscale appearance and environment without going over the line into pretentiousness. All-​comers are welcome. I’ve had no experience with their mani/​pedi or massage services, so I can’t comment on those. As a small aside, this salon also seems to do a lot to give back in the community, and I really appreciate that about them as well.
I agree with the review stating that it’s inconvenient not to put tips on the credit card when paying, but I just charge the price then write a check for the tip. It’s an extra step, but it’s minor.
