We’ve been going to Daanen’s regularly for years and unfortunately now we will never return. The new owners have taken this place way downhill. My last sandwich had zero meat… No flavor… Ended up with mostly all lettuce. Our server was completely rude and seemed annoyed to even be there. I can honestly say we had been to the old Daanen’s well over a hundred or so times as we are Hayden Lake residents. We will never step place in there again. Major bummer!

We have been coming to Daanen’s for a LONG time, even back at their old location, and I have to say with the new ownership that we will not be back. It is no longer German based so there is no more of the awesome sides, cheeses, and sausages. Just a shame… The sandwiches are skimpy, the lettuce is nasty(took mine off), and the pickles are different. The only reason we are giving it 1 star is because the bread was the same and I love their bread. The workers were not inviting and a tad brash. Miss the old smiles and friendly faces. We really hate that Daanen’s Deli name and brand is being tarnished. We know the original owners and I know how hard they worked for that name recognition.

Since ownership changed this place has gone downhill. Can’t have a conversation because of the annoying loud rock music. First German restaurant I’ve been in that the smell of garlic is always so strong that I think I’m in a Greek restaurant.

Not impressed with the staff over the phone nor in person. Management may want to inform the teenage employees on basic customer service. I am a customer, not your«hon» or «dear». We’ve been patronizing this place for years, but think that after today, it’s over. There are other establishments with better food and more professional staff in the area.

Daanens under new ownership as of December. Don’t get drawn in as just isn’t the same old place. They have had several loyal patrons over the past 25 years but I won’t be back after last night. First, don’t believe what is listed here as current hours. They close at 7:00 pm. The new owner never even introduced himself and around 7:30 just handed us our bill. We would have had another glass of wine, but he also made it clear that«we close at 7:00» and not in a nice way. I am equally disappointed to see back a former employee who is easily as harsh and curt as the new owner. It makes me sad that my local«Cheers Bar» is lost. While the former proprietor could be a bit growly at times, he and his wife built a loyal following because he demanded great service from his employees. We spent last night discussing where else to hang out for a great beer or a great glass of wine in Hayden as we won’t be back.

Very disappointing, did not live up to the hype. The food was larley over-priced. I got my sandwich on sourdough and the bread immediately fell apart on me while all the contents fell out making the sandwich extremely messy. The veggies where not as fresh as I had hoped and the avocado«spread» was mayo with a hit of avocado. I will definitely not be coming back here again, there are many way better, fresher, and cheaper deli places in the coeur d’alene/hayden area.

Good as always. I grew up here and visit in the summertime so have had the chance to visit Daanens many times over the last twenty years. The owner is a little gruff, but he always has been. The food is excellent and fresh. The service is a little slow. That being said, once you get your food and a beverage it’s very nice.

Freshest sandwiches around. Squishy, delicious bread and the best pea salad I’ve had. I’ve been going for almost 2 decades. Rumor is owners may be selling, I hope the ingredients remain the same.

If you know the difference between 16 ounces and 22 ounces, you may want to consider going to a place that knows the difference as well. My last visit to Daanen’s was very disappointing and actually insulting. I ordered a 22 oz beer and a sandwich and was given a 16 oz pint glass with my sandwich. I explained to the waitress that I was wanting the«larger» beer, and she proceeded to demonstrate with water out of a 12 oz glass getting poured into a 16 oz pint glass to miraculously explain how I was actually getting a 22 oz beer. Despite numerous tables around us having the larger 22 oz glasses, the waitress was defiant in her explanation of how I was truly getting what I was ordering even though I wasn’t and still had to pay the 22 oz price. This has definitely changed my opinion of ever going back.

Best deli sandwiches in the area. Also great wine and beer selection! The real deal — local, good food, great company. If you are looking for a franchise place, then this may not be for you. But if you are looking for something unique and local, then you cannot go wrong. Belly up to the bar and enjoy! They do superb catering as well.

Great beer selection, laid back atmosphere, and the best sandwiches and sides around. Support your local businesses and check this place out. This is definitely one of the best kept secrets in North Idaho. The bread is amazing, and you can find just about any wine and beer you want.

I’ve been coming to Daanen’s for about twenty years, starting back when they would hold the annual Oktoberfest celebration at their old location. When they moved, they took the opportunity to make space for a beer and wine selection that rivals many grocery stores. They’ve also got a lot of great imported chocolates! To me, the sandwiches are what really stand out. They’re made to order with a sheet of options to fill. The bread is made fresh locally, and has been the same perfect softness for as long as I can remember. A few people have complained that they’re too expensive, but you get what you pay for here, and you’ll still pay a lot more for a burger downtown. I live in the Seattle area now, but every time I come back, Daanen’s is literally the first place I stop, before I even say hi to my own mother. They’re also the last place I stop on the way out, a sandwich or two for the road. I’ve known the family for years, and they’re great people who’ve built a great deli and wine bar. Enjoy!

Daanen’s is one of CDA’s best kept secrets. This extraordinary delicatessen slash wine slash beer haus is one of my all time favorites. Each time I goto Daanen’s I wonder why I don’t eat there more often. Ordering is fun and easy, you fill out your own food ticket by highlighting your desired ingredients. Today I selected French bread, turkey, bacon, provolone, cream cheese, tomato, lettuce, mayo, mustard. Customizing your sandwich is half the fun of eating at Daanen’s. All the ingredients are very fresh and the bread is out of this world. I highly recommend the French, the best way to describe the bread is soft and fluffy. Other than the scrumptious sandwiches they have plenty of other homemade items such as baked mac n cheese and some killer lasagna.

Daanens has great food and a huge selection of good beers and wines. They offer special evening activities from Music to Wine Tasting. They have both hot and cold food, and will have your order to you with alacrity. That said, Mark is a mean person. He will be abusive to his customers and staff. In the kitchen he has been known to yell and throw things. Eat here at your own risk there’s lots of good food around the area.
