Was looking for a good German restaurant. Chose Kirker’s Inn based upon Unilocal reviews. Loved it!!! The food and service were excellent. The pretzel was so huge and so good. I had the meatloaf which was outstanding. The beer selection was most impressive. Cannot wait to return to try the brats

No frills place with decent food but not where I would personally go for sauerbraten again. Gravy had not enough ginger to give it zip. Potato pancake was soggy and needed onions. Red cabbage was bland. Best food we had was the chopped salad with house dressing and the honey cream cake. This place pales compared to Hendrickson’s in Bayonne and the now closed Werner’s Lake Edge in Watching. Bayonne is a ride from Bergen County but next time I am thinking of sauerbraten, I will take the ride. Wait staff at Kirker’s was efficient and friendly.

I am an European familiarized with the German cuisine and I selected Kirker’s Inn based on positive online reviews. What a disappointment! We should have known that something wasn’t good if there was nobody inside for lunch. Anyway, we decided to give it a try and didn’t order from the lunch menu, but from the list of German specialties available for dinner. We had the soup of the day, below average(we just had a spoon each and it was enough). I had the three sausages with cabbage and potatoes, but they were just the cheapest sausages from any American grocery store and had nothing to do with my memories from Berlin. My husband’s Jeagarschnitzel was dry and hard to cut and to swallow. On top of it, a big and noisy green fly was all over around our plates. None of us was impressed either with the food or with the atmosphere. Too expensive for the quality offered. For sure we won’t go back and we don’t recommend it.

If it were possible to leave zero stars I would. The food was absolutely terrible, and they should be ashamed to call it «German Cuisine» When we first arrived around 5:00pm, the place was completely empty and the staff was sitting around the bar being loud and passing the time since there were clearly no customers. This should have been a clue. We ordered the Spätzle with cheese and butter, and the Schnitzel. The Spätzle was just pasta with nothing on it, no cheese, no butter. When we complained they took it back and added butter and dry cheese powder to it! We didn’t eat any of it, it was totally disgusting. The schnitzel was over cooked, as if they had pre-cooked, and reheated it. My fiancé is from Germany and when we mentioned how disappointed we were with the food, the explanation was: «If we did traditional German cuisine we would be out of business, Americans don’t like it» I couldn’t believe what I was hearing from the manager. He stood before us totally confident in the nonsensical crap that was coming out of his mouth. Clearly with an empty restaurant, business must be good the way it is right now… He made no attempt to make us feel any better about the extremely low quality of food or disappointment. Not only will we never return, I will be sure to repost this review to warn potential customers that this is the place to avoid at all costs. The thinking is insulting, the food is disgusting, and management is clueless.

Knew something was wrong when they advertised having pizza as well as German food. The beer was good but it was downhill from there. Sauerbraten and Schnitzel were tasteless… German meatballs… whatever that is… were chewy. How can a meatball be chewy? Had to go to the bar myself to get refills on drinks. Really disappointing and pricey experience.

First off the mugs were completely warm and not even cold or chilled. That right there is a complete lie so who knows what the heck else you are providing as false information. What place does not have tap beers as a special during happy hour? Only bottled beers and glasses of mixed drinks or wines is the lamest part of your«happy hour.» This place will be in the dump soon enough. I recommend to everyone to not even try the place. You will waste your money!

I went here with my girlfriend for the first time two weeks ago, not only did I find a new beer that I love, but I’ve also found a new favorite local spot. We are anxiously awaiting our next visit. The prime rib sandwich and spetzle was absolutely delicious. Service was on point too.

Had been hearing about this place for years and finally got a chance to stop in on a Tuesday evening around 7PM. Was greeted right away and given a booth. Waitress came quickly and was very helpful explaining the menu. Had the classic Wiener schnitzel and potato pancake plus a German beer on tap. Meal was very good. Interior hasn’t been updated in 20 years but who cares. Adds to the charm of the place. Will definitely go back.

This was my first ever visit to Kirker’s Inn. It was a Friday evening at 6:30pm for a dinner/meeting. It’s a narrow structure with seats at the entrance, the bar in the middle and more seats at the end. I ordered the Stuttgarter Maultaschen which is essentially German modified Ravioli from the specials menu. Service was very pleasant and quick for a party of eight. The only negative situation was one loud guy at the bar who made it difficult for everyone else to hear each other. Normalcy returned soon as he left. Music was playing but not loud enough to make it out and the Yankees played on television.

First time here wish I found this a long time ago! Started with nice tall glasses of cold german beer Great, a pretzel I think the best I ever had and klopps very good. My lady had salad and I had soup, for main’s I had sauerbraten and she had loin of pork, all home made and excellent. It is an older place(maybe why the prices are so good) but very clean, bathroom was very clean and fresh smelling, service perfect, can“t wait to go back!

Great to have a German food in the area! We stopped here for dinner with my little two-year-old and my in-laws. One of us is on a yeast-/gluten-/soy-free diet!!! Try pleasing us! Lol… But the waiter was very accommodating about the ingredients in the dishes. You could tell that they make their food from scratch. Fun laid-back atmosphere!

Very good thin crust pizza. Better than Kinchley’s in my opinion. My only complaint is that the mega pretzel’s size has been cut in half. You can no longer get a 2 ½ lb. pretzel there. The price dropped from $ 13 to $ 6. I miss the old pretzel. It was much denser and larger.

Went here last weekend because we were in the mood for authentic German food and my husband and I were pleasantly surprised! Kirker’s is a quaint, family oriented restaurant that serves up delicious German fare. For starters, we decided to each order an appetizer because we couldn’t decide on one to split. We had the German meatballs over egg noodles and dumpling with gravy. Both were delicious and filling and we could have stopped there but we ordered our main courses which were just as good as the apps. We both ordered the sauerbraten which came with a large potato pancake and tangy red cabbage. Kirker’s has a full bar with German beer on tap served up in tall glass steins; a perfect complement to our Octoberfest meal! We will absolutely return!

Always a great time hanging out at the restaurant with the locals. Taking a couple of great tasting thin crust pizzas home. Great food. Great service.

Interesting German themed restaurant that seems very busy with the locals. On a Friday night, I don’t think anyone else was under 65, but we still enjoyed it. Very good German beer selection on tap, around 8 beers and different styles. Menu is kind of all over the place but the German dishes are very good, almost at the level of real German. There are some interesting twists like schnitzel with ham and eggs, but the meat is very well prepared. The gulasch was ok but a little heavier than the German variety. Great service. Prices a little high for the location.

My boyfriend tried this place before we went and hyped it up. I was excited because I’ve been wanting German food for a while. We waited for a good 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. Then when his friend comes in they decide to talk to us and ask if we would like a table. Seriously? No, we’re just standing in your restaurant for good health. –1 We are seated and the waitress took our beer orders. They have Oktoberfest beers on tap, +1 After dropping off our beers, she lacks to come back to us to take our orders, it felt like another 15 minutes for her to come to back and ask us what we would like to order. –1 The restaurant was pretty empty. There were three other tables and a couple of people at the bar in the back. So I don’t know what took her so long to take our order. While we waited for our food, there were multiple loud conversations between the two waitresses arguing to one another, lastly our waitress told the other waitress that she was annoying and she didn’t want to deal with her. That shut her up. Ah… Jersey… We sat there for a while waiting for our food to come out and final the waitress, said, «oh do you want some bread?» I’m sorry, but do you really have to ask that question? This woman is grating on my nerves with stupid questions. –1 The food on the other hand was delicious and comforting. I ordered the Pork Chop Savoy, the pork chop came out moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. I will say that I asked for a side of gravy because there was none on the potatoes… I’m sorry I’m from the South; I have to have gravy on everything! I did appreciate that they had a normal price and a «not that hungry» price for us small eaters. But since the price only differed by $ 2, I got the larger portion and had lunch for the next day. Atmosphere: This is a small quite restaurant in the middle of the town, so it’s nothing fancy. The booth seating was a little worn and restaurant had an old worn feeling. But the food is great, filled my craving for German food but sadly the service was such an afterthought. Hopefully if we return we don’t get the same lady…

This place the décor is old and not much has been done over the years. But the food is what you go for. The menu is endless. Choices are great and authentic ! Try the pretzel for an appetizer. It’s huge. The dumplings are good. Bratwurst, knock wurst, schnitzel and sides are very tasty. Pizza even done with the German sausage. Stop in for some authentic food and you will be satisfied!

German Fare Is Excellent Service Is Cordial And Knowledgeable Food Arrives Promptly Great Lunch Menu Experienced Owners Are On Hand Nice Selection Of German Brews. Upon entering Kirker’s Inn you may encounter the gregarious owners who will greet you like family, just say hello. I suggest the classic German food, rustic and hearty the portions are generous. Try the pizza, yes pizza! The restaurant is clean yet dated, still charming none the less. Bartender is very nice and the drinks pack a punch. With a ever narrowing field of traditional Teutonic soul food, Kirker’s has me covered since their menu is grounded in all areas of what this place is. Menu is complete from this standpoint covering all the classics: Sauerbraten, roast loin of pork, Bavarian wursts(sausages) and schnitzels are all very good, fresh ingredients and proper cooking techniques are clearly evident down to the home made apple sauce and red cabbage. The sauces/gravies that compliment many of the dishes are prepared in house and the flavors are wunderbar! You really need to try the pizza here! Take out or eat in this is a bar pie with a cracker thin crust, home made sauce, quality cheese and fresh toppings(they will customize a pizza to your liking, ours looked like this ). The plain pizza is available in a 12″ or 16″ size for eight and ten bucks respectively, toppings are plentiful and inexpensive. The pizza here is on par with the very popular Kinchley’s Tavern in Ramsey, NJ and Nelly’s in Waldwick, NJ. In fact the recipe is shared among the three, it’s the execution that differs. Other nice touches on the menu include potato pancakes, German cucumber or potato salad, potato dumplings in sauerbraten gravy, spaetzel, klopps(German meatballs) and of course three kinds of fresh made Bavarian Pretzels(sticks, large traditional and the 2 ½ pound monster!) The soups are always excellent with chicken noodle being my favorite, reminds me of Sundays at Grandma’s house. Trust me, my Grandparents were German immigrants and I grew up on this food, Prost!
